1971 Mustang Mach 1 Review & Test Drive
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Take a look at this stunning 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1! Right here is a special car, with a fresh repaint, a high-quality interior restoration, and a fantastic-sounding new dual exhaust system! The year 1971 brought a new Mustang to the market, and along with it was a fresh Mach 1 package, carried over from 1969 and 1970. An instantly recognizable feature are the twin hood scoops on the hood, which would be functional when equipped with "Ram-Air" induction and non-functional on the base hood. In addition, a color-coded front bumper and honeycomb style grille were unique to the Mach 1! This Mach 1 is powered by an M-Code 351 C.I. "Cleveland" V8 and a 4-barrel carburetor. That power gets to the rear end through a 3-speed automatic, delivering smooth and linear power. The white paint and black Mach 1 are laid out beautifully over a laser-straight body, giving this car a very aggressive look, as if it's constantly in motion. The black vinyl bucket seats are in excellent shape and provide plenty of support, perfect for long cruises or highway hauls. This Mach one comes with some pretty cool options, including factory tachometer and gauges, a fold-down rear seat, remote mirror, new paint, a high-quality interior restoration, dual-sport mirrors, a period AM/FM radio, heater + blower, and a new dual-exhaust system. The car rides on a great-looking factory style Mustang wheels on top of another sweet set of BF Goodrich R/T RWL tires. This Mach 1 wants to be taken out back on the road, and it is waiting here for its next owner to take it back on the freeway!

This was my dream car back in high school when you could see on parked in the front yard of a random suburb with a for sale sign and $2500 on the windshield. They were much more common than one might think. As soon as I started trying to get one, they started going up, up and up in value, always one step ahead of me. When they went into the double digits I said forget about it. Since then I've owned a lot of different cars, but these will always hold a special place in my mind.

Correct sir! I had the opportunity to purchase one with a Cleveland in 1985, excellent condition $2,500.00. I couldn't come up with the cash.
Brings back memories of my '72 Mach 1 with 351 Cleveland...sigh.
7th grade on my way to school, used to walk through a Ford dealership lot. My friend Dave loved the Mach 1. Many years later i bought a boss 302. Im in my 60s now, and still own it.
Saw my first Mach1 in about '72 parked at a mall just north of Toronto, though I was not a big fan of mustangs at the time, that silver 429 model had a big wow factor, I was surprised how big it looked and its sound was a mesmerizing, almost hemi-like rumble, you could feel it in your bones.
Bought a new 71 Mach 1 in 1972. $3,800 window sticker. Metallic green, hub caps with beauty rims, Firestone raised white letter wide ovals. 351 Cleveland two barrel carb. Got married and traded for a 75 Chevy Monte Carlo. Duh!!
I bought a red 71 here in Denmark in the late 90'ies. It was sold as a Fastback, but I could see from the VIN that it was originally a Mach1, so I bought it and told my wife that it would be restored back to what the Marty report told me was original. I opted for new tyres, but other than that it ended up as an original 71 Mach 1, grabber yellow, black interior, 351C 4-barrel with a C-6, no stripe kit, only the Mach 1 fender and trunk stencils, Magnum 500 wheels, pop open gas cap, nonfunctional ram air. Hardest thing to find was actually the rear honeycomb panel, which was missing! Sold it when kids were added to the family :)

Nice save!! 1st car was a 67 rs 4 spd. Had signs of a Z28 but I didnt see dz on the block stamping....it said MO Was many yrs later til i realized that was a legit 302, rs ss options. Never missed a car more. Guy I sold it to put an auto in it and hacked the car up bad. Loved that thing, was that factory tuqoise/aqua color
As a kid I spent a sunday in my Uncles repair shop (despite being told not to) sitting in one of those and listening to the engine idle. It was worth the risk.
Honest to God that is my Most Favorite car ever! The new mustang should have went this style Stang!
My favorite year. Awesome job guys. I am coming up there sometime.
I love the huge mustangs from 71 to 73! Iacocca got the designer of the car also the then president of FMC, fired because his designs other than the Mustang were hideous. These Mustangs are the most unique because of their size.
Wow ive never seen such a clean 71
Man I would love to park this Mach 1 next to the Cougar!!! Not many white out there and I love it !! You guys find and sell the best Classics on the interweb 😎
“Correct air cleaner” my ass. 😂😂😂😂
Thumbnail is photographic excellence! Great choice of lens, perfect lighting, awesome angle. The best photo of this model I’ve ever seen.
Hi from Australia Dude, a friend of mine had a original Mach 1 ,351 Cleveland. The colour was silver and black, the wheels had the mustang ford pony hub caps, black interior it was awesome, and man did it go.
OMG the sound is amazing😀 stunning car.
Thank you for sharing and your APPRECIATION Dalton
Gorgeous! This sucker must have sold within hours!
I had a '72 Mustang Coupe with the 351 2v. It was pretty but helpless in the rain, Dangerous in the snow. I replaced the belted bias ply tires with radials and that helped a lot, but without chains it just sat and spun the wheels in the snow.
I'm a diehard GM man but I always loved the fastback mach,s love to own one......

why? they are underperforming and butt ass ugly. There are a number of mustangs that are actually decent looking and can get out of there way.
Very Clean Looks brand new
Was a kid and remember being on the fwy next to cars like this...humming away at 3k forever....best sound track! No radio needed here!.
Along with the winged Mopars, this puppy is one of my all-time favorite musclecars. Very cool stuff.
This car is exactly like the one I bought in 1975 for $2700. Wheels, color, everything. Only difference is that mine had a 4 speed, factory 8 track and rear window louvers. Ex #1 got it. lol
Another beautiful classic😇
I went and bought myself a 71 351C 4V because of this video. It's about a 7/10 now, but I'd love to restore it to this quality someday.

true restoration...so nice
Wow. Love it. I miss my 73 Mach 1
Gorgeous
DAMN imagine how a 429 V-8 would sound in that car, the 351 was impressive as well!!
Hope my 69 Fastback comes out as good. Nice job whoever did it. Also in white as of now.
ive always liked these
This is my favorite year
Very nice!
One of my dream cars 😭😭😭😭
2:39 Nice to see cars hit in the front, put back on the road, especially this 1971-73 series -- i think these are the best looking of all Mustangs.

YES ABSOLUTELY CORRECT THIS MUSTANG 🐎 MACH 1 IS IN PRESTIGE CONDITION MINT AS WE USE TO SAY everything LINES UP AND DONE UP RIGHT 👍 A GREAT INVESTMENT BY FAR PEOPLE
That style mustang always reminds me of James Bond, Diamonds Are Forever, Vegas car chase. Personally not my favorite mustang body style, too big, but that is a beautiful car.
1975 I had a 71 Mach 1, silver, red int, 4 speed with the 285hp 351 same as this one. Yeah, that one is correct. Flip down gas cap is 71 only. 72 had a twist cap alot like a Maverick. Ads are here in spanish.

Richard Holdner did a test of the 1970 351C 4bbl and found it put out close to 370 HP. Your 71 351 4bbl is probably close to 350 HP? Ford under-rated their performance engines to fool the insurance companies in order to keep insurance costs down.
Only two things matter when you're buying a classic mustang. That's....... The VIN and the door build tag. Not all mustangs were created equally.
Stunning car!
That may be the first 71 Mach I've seen in white; it looks really good. Is that Wimbleton White?
Hey even like the 78 Mustang 2 Ghia you back there.
I would run out the door rite this minute...jump on a plane and show up there to purchase that stalion....BUT i dont have the damn $😬
Wow l love this car $
My sister had this same car back in the 80’s. The only difference I can see is this car has a rear wing , her’s didn’t. And her hood had the center cowling painted black.
I was always told that you never rev an engine and then shut it off. That squirt of gas rinses the oil from the cylinder and it is dry the next time you start it.
This ain't no restoration it's 3 times better than when it left the factory..it's how it should have looked.
I think I’m gonna cry… my first car was 71 Mach 1 exactly like this just whit the black hood design and I sold it for 6k because hard times 😭 i whis I still have it to restore it like this one.
Nice, they are always yellow, it sure looks good in the white, fun to drive, someone sure spent a lot of money on all the details, every bolt bracket and hose looks factory correct. 351 boys always want to know if the engine is from Cleveland or Windsor, I am a mopar guy, but I am pretty sure Cleveland is the more desireable engine, I think it was the heads, they breathed better, it might have been something to do with Canadian emisssions, but don`t quote me on that, it`s a pretty car.
What a beautiful classic! Way above and beyond the Pinto Mustang II abobination...
Very nice just like the red 68 you have. Neither will last long.
I see it's already sold. How much did it go for?
I have a 72 Mach 1 love in it! It has 92k on it ! You didn't mention if the factory clock works? Anyway beautiful 71
Be a lot of fun driving something like this back home? What range she sell for?
14:07 was the best part of this video
Car guys, hey what's he doing when he shifts the shifter? It's automatic? On the test drive.
Needs thee louver in the back glass.
👍👍👍👍
did it sell and if so how much?
What is the price for this amazing car
Where's the ram air parts on the hood?
@jamesrichards3414
Жыл бұрын
It did not have the correct ram air set up
Beautiful car, wrong color! I owned one in the 70's, real eye catcher
❤
Just missing that third pedal
The radio plate needs to be replaced. It's hideous. That panel is removable I'm shocked the owner/restorer didn't replace it. The rest of the car was done correctly. 1971 Mustangs no matter what type of engine did not have a manual choke. Factory gauges work fine, they should have been hooked up.
You guys like cars i know , but for not too much money you could get a good camera for taking pictures of one . But these are cool .
Is it a 351C?
Door sounds terrible. But every thing else fantastic.
Never came from factory done this well.
At 0:18 I didn't like the clunky sound of the door closing on a beautifully restored car?
It’s not lining up on the other side. Should have spent a bit more for ram air.
Why don't you guys put the cars on a lift so we can the underneath of the cars , I wanna see that because its important also ❗❗❗✌🏁

So, the 428 and 429 were gone in 1971?
@jesse75
Жыл бұрын
428 gone. 429 in. I know where a 429 mustang is. Like to see someone restore it.
Sadly i saw today a 1972 Mach 1 that is all original paint and matching numbers running and driving at the pick n pull here in Calif that is about to be crushed. The story is some old couple turned it into the BAR for a few hundo to get old clunkers off the road.
Didn't all the Mach 1's black hoods?

I remember my neighbor having to pull over for me to throw up in one just like this fresh off the show room floor I was 7 im ,60 now
Test drive at 12:50.
I jnow where ine of these is sitting now in 2023 , realley would like the funds to make an offer .
My brother in law had one , it was a sled making handling more like a station wagon . great looking car , just remove 2 feet from the wheelbase
I use to drive nothing but rear wheel drive big motor muscles cars. I still love em. But then you start realizing you can't drive em year round, they mostly suck in the rain, and you get smoked by 4 cylinder turbo's that handle better, get 35/40 mpg's and last forever. Nice to have one in the garage for weekends, but they are relics now if you are an actual driver.
The nose on this car is insane. 351 Cleveland I hope. The Windsor engine was crap. If my '11 Stang had a Mach 1 package I would have had it.
After market steering wheel, if you gripped to tight you honk the horn, inner ring on original.looks like the one I had white / black stripes 429 SCJ,power windows, a street beast.

Years ago I drove a silver 1971 Mach 1 Mustang with the 429 Super Cobra Jet with the Drag Pack option, 4 speed with factory 4.30 gear and with a factory Detroit Locker rear end. Violent power delivery compared to a 1974 V12 E-type 4 speed Jaguar I also drove in comparison, lol.
سياره قويه ماشا، الله
I had to fix one of these in my second year of autobody trade school. It ended up with three or more patches on almost every panel because of rust. That's when we started calling them "Rustangs".

True ! My new '71 Ram Air 351 front fender tops rotted thru in 1 1/2 years old. No inner fender liners. Horrific paint and decal installation. Dash area panels way out of line. Huge disappointment.
I owned one that looked exactly like this one. It had 5 coats of white paint and was and is the most beautiful car I have owned. I will not comment on it's performance as the big block cobra jet engine, and 4 speed had long been replaced with a 302 and a c6:( I actually hated the car. It was terribly unreliable, uncomfortable. I only owned it for 3 months and spent $3k just to keep it moving. It was totalled when the entire rear end FELL OFF in a hard corner. I wasn't speeding. I'm lucky it didn't kill me. I had just gotten it back from having the radiator replaced after it literally exploded. The temp gage was installed improperly so read very low temps. I tried to keep it from locking up by cranking it as it cooled. Wish I hadn't done that! The wire that ran from the ignition start position burned through the entire harness. There weren't replacements available at the time so I paid a mechanic waaay too much to wire the starter, headlights tail, brake lights blinkers and fuel gage. Thad all i had when it spun it into a tree after the aforementioned rear end FELL off the car. It was awful in a parking lot as well, learned how to do 9 point turns in a Grateful Dead concert parking lot . And you cannot see out the back at all. This car's only good point was it's looks. I would NEVER buy another at any cost. They are the least valuable muscle era mustangs for that reason I believe. Sorry to bum y'all out but it's hard to believe how bad this car is.
@gordocarbo
Күн бұрын
Only reason people are looking at this era is the early ones are too high. This era was porky, all car guys back then made fun of them.
Painted front bumper, chrome rear bumper 😢
The word original seems to get tossed around a whole lot, this car is not original anymore, it has been restored.
that steering wheel??? LOL...NO SALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My buddy owned one of these. Casual race against 1965 ss 396 impala. Love mustangs, but this race was horrible.
All the body lines look completely Ford oem. Yes the cars beautiful, but maybe you shouldn't use the word perfect so much. Love it, but I've already got 1.
Hey it's a nice car but don't pretend those panel gaps are anything but good. There's a huge bulge in the right side hood panel gap and the trim on the bottom passenger door is incredibly uneven. They might be slightly better than factory but they are still 1,000 years behind the cheapest Hyundai built today.
@gordocarbo
Күн бұрын
Not sure what the reference to a Hyundai is for? Two totally different cars Its not about hp mpg etc
Closing the car door sounds like a Sherman Tank. By 1971, the Mach 1 Mustang was overweight, which required a huge V-8 just to move it down the road.
1 baker 11
Missed 1 for $350 in 2002. Was in good shape. But this video is weak.
"the guy spent a ton of money" but not enough to paint the hood correctly and finish the ram air assembly. Lol
These cars fell apart fast mine was 8 years old in 79 when I got mine the paint was thrashed, car was falling apart but had been built up to 400 horse and dusted all the 78 flashy Chevy Camaros that were 185 horsepower,,,
