1971 BSA Rocket 3 ride.

"Refreshed" '71 BSA Rocket 3.
Frame repainted with the controversial 1971 Dove Grey using 2-part epoxy, original paint on tank & covers.
I've come to like the Dove Grey framed bikes.

Very special sound from the 3-cylinders. I wanted one of those but I was too young for the bike licence back then. When I got the licence they weren't sold any more. Now I'm too old. / B.

Hello Douglas, this must be an early 1971 Rocket three as by May 1971 EE frame and engine number. The frames were done in black due to poor sales of bikes with the dove grey frame. Cheers.

It's actually GE, and around serial #00900. The last 71' R3s were around #01100, so this was towards the end. The factory painted ALL the 71s Dove Grey, the dealers were given an "allowance" to paint the frames black. Thanks

What is the vibration like compared to the 650 Twin? I rode my brother's '71 Bonneville back in the day and the bloody pegs and hand grips had my hands and feet totally numb after about 20 minutes of highway cruising. When I ended up buying a bike in '77, I ended up with a KZ650 due to its silky smoothness.

Yes, I have a few 650 twins, if they are balanced they should be smooth up to about 4000 rpm, but they are out of their comfort zone past that. The triples when setup correctly are very smooth, mine up to about 80-85 mph

Any vibrations with the triple since the engine cranshaft set to 120 degré. Forget the vertical twin!
