Mopars are more rare and should appreciate in value more than other muscle cars.

I knew the owner of this car and bought a 1970 Six Barrel 4 speed EF8 Road Runner post coupe project from him. He lived in Harleysville PA. I also know the guy who converted this car from a column shift automatic to a floor shifted console bucket seat car. I believe at the time he also had a 1971 HemiCuda' in Tawny Gold and owned a 1971 Six Pack Charger Super Bee that was featured in one of the defunct MoPar Performance magazines that came out of Bensalem PA. This Road Runner here was also featured prominently in a later MoPar magazine. He is a great guy and had some truly amazing MoPars in his stable over the years!!!

The '70 roadrunner did in fact have a bucket seats option.

2018.. Plymouth Roadrunners 1968 to 1970 will ALWAYS sell for more, and are more collectable than GTO's, Chevelles, or any Ford. Even with the 383.

Yea, can tell you're not a Mopar guy. The 1970 Roadrunner was available with bucket seats and a console. Probably the 1968 was the only 'bench seat' only car. As for resell and collectability Mopars beat all others. Chrysler, Dodge Plymouth had a better system of custom ordering a car, thus it isn't hard to find odd optioned cars that less that 20-30 or 50 were ever built that way. GM and Ford can't build anything unless they are building thousands or more. Rarity, Mopar wins again. Size and weight, year a 68-70 Roadrunner is a BIG BOX, but it weight about the same as a 68 Camaro. On the street, a bone stock 68 camaro with 275 HP and 320 pf of torque, vs a Roadrunner, weighing the same, but 335 HP and 425 pf of torque. Mopar wins again. A hint here, if you've never driven a Mopar before, don't do it. Its hard to go back to dog food, once you've tasted steak.

I will stick with my 70' BOSS429, as it beats any Mopar in any category. I certainly appreciate all muscle cars, as it was a magical time, but too many people only look at Mopar. Heck, the Buick GSX Stage1 was also known to take care of business. In that era, at that time, Mopars were not thought of as the best cars on the road. My 70' Boss429 is a rare beast, plus most didn't want to see it next to them at a light. At any rate, you gotta love classic American muscle...

Another MAJOR reason people opted away from the Hemi was because they were warranty-void. Who would buy a new car without a warranty? 440-six pack for sure!

I bought a 1970 Road Runner used in 1974 at age 16 and I still have the car. Its true the car was designed to be a less expensive muscle car compared to its rival the Chevelle SS. My Road Runner was an almost base model. I had the 383 with milled heads, the pistol grip joy stick 4 speed manual , the decor interior which was a bench seat with a silver stripe as opposed to the basic bench. However Buckets WERE available in the 1970 road runner, I know this because my buddy had one and our cars were stock from Plymouth. My sticker for the car with the brake option ( disc front drum rear) was $3100. The car in this video was not a cheap competitor but an almost fully optioned 70 roadrunner . First the motor was the Hemi which if im not mistaken was a $400 option as is the air grabber hood, the black stripe on the hood, the blinkers on the face plate on the back of the hood, the dust trail decal coming from the roadrunner bird , the chrome tips on the reat pipes. the bucket seats , auto tranny , the tick toc tachometer all were options. Still likely less than the chevelle ss but close in price.

I can confirm the comments below that a '70 RR could be ordered from the factory with bucket seats and an Air Grabber. My family owned two Roadrunners. I sold my father (49 years old, six kids) on buying a '68 post coupe. ("You don't have to buy a Chrysler to get a Chrysler engine and trans!") It was electric blue with 383, automatic, 3.23 open, F70x14, AM, dealer-installed power drum brakes, dealer-swapped wheel covers. It towed his boat really well and my mother was the coolest teacher at our Catholic school. My twin brother bought a '70 post coupe. It was Vitamin-C Orange with 383, automatic, 3.91 Sure-Grip, F60x15, AM/FM, power disc brakes, 7x15 styled-steel wheels with trim rings. It towed the boat even better! With G60x15 studded snows, it was great in Chicago winters. Don't want to admit what each of them was sold for.

Air Grabber (in 1970, as of September 1969), was MANDATORY with Hemi, and Six Barrel 440. NOT available with any other engine.

Correction, the 1970 RR came standard with a bench seat, buckets were an option. Center console was also an option. Air Grabber on 1970 Hemi RR was standard, & optional on other engines (383 & 440-6).

A couple of quick corrections/notes; the logo on the owners manual was a heart not a devil's tail. If you look at the poster behind you when you were in the garage next to the Coke machine, the roadrunner has that heart logo on his white helmet. Plymouth switched to the heart logo when Dodge started using the Scat Pack bee w/helmet logo. Next, the 1970 440 GTX also had the air grabber as an option (I drove one that had it, if I remember correctly it had a toggle switch on the dash and ran off a vacuum hose from the carb). The dual air scoops you spoke of were on the 1970 Dodge Challenger and Coronet RT's, 340 Darts and Super Bee's as well as the Plymouth Duster & Cuda'. The reason there were more automatics sold in those years was the 727 Torqueflite transmission was a better built transmission and quicker off the line (my 1969 340 Dart Swinger could beat any manual off the line, but everything beat me on the highway). Lastly, 1970 RoadRunners could get bucket seats and the console (not to mention A/C) as an option that's probably what those parts were for. I understand that particular car's spec sheet didn't come with that option. These were the cars I grew up on, and in my opinion, the 440 Commando Six Pack (3 2-Barrel carbs) could beat and last longer/take more abuse than the Hemi with 2 4-Barrel Holley's. Thanks for bringing back great memories of my late teens.

+Larry Layton Great comments. I did buy one of those NOS owners manuals for mine, and yes it is a heart, probably a play on the whole love generation theme. I have a 70 440 GTX with an Air Grabber, and it does have the dash toggle that runs off of vacuum power, so rev it to raise it basically. I also found your commentary on the interior options to be interesting as well, as my research also shows that you could get many different options for either the RR or GTX. Mine has a bench, and I initially assumed that was a later addition and probably is, along with the base RR dash, but given the customization options, I'll never really know. Also, your assessment of the 440 6-bbl is spot on. That era Hemi was basically a detuned race engine that needed constant attention, and the 6-pack/6-barrel was a street machine that could take the Hemi in short races off the track. All that considered, I'm still thinking of converting mine to a 6-bbl.

Oh nice! Thanks for that tidbit of trivia. The wife will get a kick out of it. After further research into my car's codes, turns out that my bench seat was factory right out of Hamtramck along with my 4-sp Hurst. So, the seats in it might even be original. Only thing that isn't factory on it is the paint, as it was originally one of the base blue offerings, don't remember which at the moment. Think I'll stick with factory on everything else at this point, and though the paint is different than original, you really can't argue with such a great color as FC7 In Violet and the black vinyl top. In fact, my wife loves the color so much, when I found that G&L Guitars was making a Detroit Muscle Series R/T ASAT 90 Special guitar to match, when I showed her a picture, she demanded I get it. Yep, nothing like that iridescent purple.

I got to ride a few times in my Navy's friend 1969 Roadrunner, was a fun car. My wife's cousin husband bought a 1969 Roadrunner about 10 years back. Those were 383 Magnums. Ah miss those days.

First off keep your eye on the road especially when you're driving to 70 hemi roadrunner, Second don't lean on it especially when you have buttons on your sleeves

That's a one cool Bird! I was wondering if you gonna the beep beep ... I wasn't disappointed :) Man, the Big3 really had it going with countless configurations during the golden Muscle Car era .... So many configurations its hard to keep track of & knowing them all .... So "I'm gonna stand here in corner & say" Yea, I Love The Challenger ... There's something about a white Hemi Challenger. Speaking of the GTX, there's used to be a Red 71 GTX with 5.5 miles on it for sale here a couple of years back ... They were asking $120k for it. Hmm, I think the Mopars ... Especially the rare ones who are gonna appreciate, it already started with the Cuda As always, excellent episode M!

My 3rd dream car!!

In 1970 I was 19 and bought a RR with a 383 Super Commando no-frills haul ass car that the girls loved. In hindsight, I would have bought the GTX because South Georgia summers are HOT... The GTX had air. I ran a few times on the local Sunday drag strip. It ate Chevells and Mustangs in the quarter. I still have 9 cheesy trophies to show for it. Going forward all 3 are still very popular.

Well fellas, for me it was rather simple. I had wanted a muscle car and so a few years ago I decided to do something about it. Given my budget it was likely going to be a project. That was fine with me. So I began looking. I searched and searched. And searched more. I considered every variant: Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs, Darts, Chargers, etc. In the end it came down to a Charger or a Road Runner. Because I wanted something more unique I went with the Road Runner. And when I looked at the variants from 68 - 74 or 75 there was only one choice for me: the 1970. I found one on Ebay that was an incomplete project, but yet an authentic RM23 car. I bought it, had it shipped and haven't looked back. Funny story, but the fellas who drove the semi and brought it to me told me that they routinely had other vehicles pass them by and honk their horns, giving them the thumbs up over my Road Runner. Then whenever they stopped folk would come up to them and inquire about it, often taking pictures. In conclusion I am glad that I made this choice, only wish I had done so 20 years ago when they were just another used car.

I am not a KZreadr, nor do I make my own videos. Having said that, as a muscle car fan I would love to give you a suggestion. We come to these videos to see and hear the vehicle. Do all your talking first, show off the car while you do it. Then get in the car, shut up and drive so we can hear all the glorious sounds of the American V8. That is all.

I don't care details of the story were correct or not. I liked the vid, especially the scenes filmed in different angels while on the road. I also don't care if it is a HEMI, Ford or GM and what the best e.t. is, JUST REV IT AND LISTEN TO THE V-8 ROARİNG, that's what's American muscle is in my eyes (and for my ears). And have a look at that car : Bigger than our department, you can get a mini out of that hood and a Fiat 500 out of that trunk. How can a car like brick be so attractive ? But it is...Raw, handsome, sharp, agressive. SO SIMPLE AND BEAUTIFUL.

the Road Runner was a stripped-down presented version of the more luxurious GTX.. fun on a budget for the younger more economical generation, GTXs usually had a more luxury interior. Wood grainy dash console bucket seats etc. Roadrunners black dash bench seats more of a stripped version, GTX all the big engines the Roadrunner basic wonderful 383, bigger if you wanted.

I would have loved to see the engine.

Any Mopar with the 426 Hemi factory original is worth very big bucks. It IS a Racing engine installed in large 2 door coupes. Hemi cars easily ran 14 seconds in the quarter and some dropped into the 13s. Slick wrinkle wall tires could shave 1 second off the 1/4 mile. 👍😎

MY 70 RR was just plain blue. Hemi with 3 duces and automatic. I put on headers and 3 .5 straight pipes no mufflers. At all. Had from 77 to 80. Got married now you know the rest of the story.

Coz my dream cars were 67' Mustang Fastback (slope in the back), this 70 roadrunner and a gorgeous machine called 53' Buick skylark roadmaster. i own a 70 rm27 4-speed 383 car ( 1 of 57 ) with a 440+6 in it grabber, dana 60. If you can put the gas into it it can be driven daily no problem..I would not pay the stupid prices for them now. Glad I owned more than a dozen rare mopars long before they got too expensive.

That is a really cool feature that isn't even necessary, but it's cool. Thanks. We're Chargers the same way? I mean most not having them? I forgot about this video and when I saw it on the Charger I thought maybe it was an aftermarket thing?

@@erictalkington5674 I’m like you,that’s a pretty cool option. The chargers had that option,but they were further up towards the front of the hood. The 69 roadrunner had them on the front fenders.

The stripe or dust trail on the car is upside down, the x in the pattern should be on the bottom

Did he say ALL RRs had bench seats? Did he say that it was $50,000 to get the licensing for the roadrunner? it was $10,000 and 50 for the horn i saw more things wrong with this but you know whatever. Oh and edit, he said RRs came with 383s and GTX with 440s, not always the case and he got the airgrabber wrong too.

I think what he meant was,on a roadrunner,383 was the base engine. And GTX the base engine was 440.

I don't think the shape of the combustion chambers made the power, but rather the cross-flow valve and port arrangement.

Sorry the car sounds like shit looked great but like I said it sounded offer. Love the 1969 RR best of all it looks better than the 68 or 70or older RRs

She's not running right. Definitely an issue there, almost sounds like a miss. Further, when you tromped on it, it didn't kick down - that's an adjustment that needs attention as well. Probably chalk all this up to such a rare car not getting out much, I'd guess.

love 70 roadrunners and love this video ! my dad has a numbers matching 70 roadrunner 383 4 spd air grabber car all restored. check my channel I have a few videos of it there. his 69 gtx is up next and headed to the body shop pretty soon...I'm excited about the gtx.

super nice but one thing I could bitch about. pause at 1:27. who put that 1/2 inch thick road runner emblem on the front passenger fender. that really obscene.

Golgo 13 Something I will NEVER forget. We shot this car, the 1963 Corvette Z06 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/oYhp3JmmaNKwpso.html), the Ferrari Daytona (kzread.info/dash/bejne/nqyhs5p-YarPZ7g.html), a Maserati Ghibli (forthcoming) and the worst one weather wise (kzread.info/dash/bejne/rIGEzaSLp8Kwhps.html) a CONVERTIBLE Beetle all at the same time . . . EVERY morning was 21 - 26 degrees. Mind you, this was January of this year but still unseasonably cold for the region but if you remember, it was cold everywhere in the US that month - even here in California.

Ford and Chevy just seem very generic to me when compared to MOPARs.

Which one becomes more valuable in the future? Neither of them! The market for baby boomer hot rods are on the decline as we, yes me included get older! The newer generation is only like maybe 10% interested in the our era! And we are in our later 50's to early 70's now! The younger generation wants the newer version of the hemi challenger - hellcats and BIG throaty camaro and mustang mega horsepower all aluminum performance v8s that get 20mpg on standard 93 octane unleaded gas, VS. 8mpg on leaded dragon fuel and power nothing compared to fully loaded! Sorry to say but within the next 25 years or so you can probably get our generation cars for what we would call a bargain price!!! Case in point, model T's and A's once commanded higher prices than what you can buy one for now.......

Mopar or no car

Mopars in great condition go for as much as real estate for one simple reason: They are rust buckets and cost a fortune to restore. If you have never restored one, this is lost on you. Their quality was horrendous. If you get your hands on one today, it has already been restored 6 times, and each time it gets worse. I am not bashing the car or the people, that's just how it is. It does not cost $125,000 to restore a full-frame chevrolet or galaxie. In addition, many many more of them have survived the decades.

My 70 roadrunner was a 383 coyote duster engine with air grabber. It was a crappy disposable straight line car. I now drive a E320 Benz, which is faster, reliable, and rides great. NO ROADRUNNER will run 157mph like my E320. No issues going around curves like the morags. The morags are JUNK, dangerous, with no balance to the handling. No wonder most got wrapped around trees, phone poles, or splattered in the ditches. Crappy $150-$200k cars for idiots.
