1970 Plymouth 426 Hemi 'Cuda #1 Muscle Car Of The Week Video #53
This week, we bring you one of the pinnacle Muscle Cars ever built, for multiple reasons! You're looking at the very first 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda Convertible ever built. Rare because they only made 14 Hemi 'Cuda drop-tops in '70, cool because of the 425 HP 426 cube Hemi V8 under the hood, and even more unique because this is the first one to roll off the assembly line. Dressed in Rallye Red with a red interior and black top, this car even sports a red Shaker hood scoop for more attention-getting fun. Mash the gas and the dual Carter four-barrels open up to provide fuel - lots of fuel - to the hungry Hemi below. The Brothers Collection is home to some awesome cars, but this one is over the top, even with the top down!

Best looking car ever made, just stunning from every angle. In the mid 80's I had an orange 70' 383 Cuda, then I got married and sold it. I wish I'd never done either.

That’s funny! I got rid of my 66 GT 350 Hertz Shelby black with gold stripes after I got married. I mean it really isn’t funny cause it was one of my biggest regrets. Specially looking at what they cost now. I’ve owned a 1970 Ford Maverick with a hipo 289, a 69 Road Runner with a 383, a 64 1/2 Mustang GT coupe and a regular 65 Mustang Coupe. All these gone cause I got married…but the Hertz hurts the most…I wish I could find it and buy it back.

what every mopar guy lusted after. One beautiful machine. Great vid Kevin thank you.
I find it hard to believe only a few of these beasts were Hemi born too!!! I remember the first time I saw this body style I said I have to get me one!!! I did finally get a 72 with a blown 318 for only $50!!! Those were the days!!! I chucked the junk 318 and just had to stuff in a 440 I had in my wood grain sided Town&Country station wagon!!! Thanks for sharing these lovlies With us again!!!! Only 14 unimaginable,gee thanks ralphy
I would give almost anything to have this sweet car!
Wow! Absolutely Amazing!!!
Great show and the best in presentation!
The shaker hood on a Hemi Cuda was not an option it was standard but it was an option on the Challenger Hemi.

Which looks better 70 cuda or 70 challenger
There are my favorite AMC will always have more fans and more car crazy people an any manufacturer out there. Once AMC always AMC
heres a tidbit,nobody probably didn't know...that color red was the only color you could get the shaker hood scoop same color as body paint....besides black body paint /black shaker hood scoop
Ladies and gentlemen the car you see IS the apex of the pyramid. We are so very fortunate to even see this '70 'Cuda 426 HEMI CONVERTIBLE. Yes it is that rare. Only 14 were made. Today, in 2024 this car can easily sell for $5 million crossing the auction. 👍👍⭐⭐😃
Incredible
The Shaker hood was standard on the 1970-'71 Hemi Cuda! It was optional on the 1970-'71 Hemi Challenger R/T for some reason! The 1970 Challenger TA hood replaced the Shaker option on the 1971 Challenger R/T when the Shaker parts ran out, giving the leftover parts to Plymouth to fill their orders!
I love these dream cars 👍🇺🇸
Now THAT'S an awesome car!!! Super cool, I really like it. I've never been a fan of red interiors but on that Cuda, WOW....Outstanding! I'll bet that car is worth nearly a million bucks. P.S. Congrats on 52. 🤓🇨🇦🇺🇸

Had the '67 barracuda /6. + 318/340h.
You mentioned the Shaker Hood being an option for this car but in fact it was standard on all 1970 Cuda' Hemi cars. Great car.

The shaker hood was standard on all 70-71 Hemi Cudas..optional on all other Cuda models(from the 340,383, 440-4 & 440-6 cars)..
Love the Goodyear poly glass tires they were Boss
Absolutely Amazing! That they made cars like these back in the good old days, is just too cool. Thanks guys. Liked and subscribed immediately on first video. 👍🏆🎉
Worth about 3 million or so.
I thought that car was familiar because I had recently seen a 1970 ad for this car with all the options , the ad had a Red cuda which was rare because of the rear rubber bumper since only a few of these car came with the front rubber bumper option while the rear was stock. I am pretty sure that the Option list did indeed show the Sharker scoop on the Chart with the "O" next to the 426 . It's kinda like the Lincoln MK III with the Vinyl Roof and sun roof as Options but very few left the Plant without being loaded up to add Profits for the dealer, plus i haven't see the Sun roof Option on a MK III that had the base Model full paint body . The Cuda big block hood was special and came with hood pins , the upgrade was the Locks for the Pins . All convertibles had Locking glove boxes for security , and 70 was the only year for Power Windows and Drivers seat. The $900 Hemi Option was close to 30% of the list price prior to dress-up Options and beefing up the battery and Alternator power . Those dual color keyed mirrors were extra but only came in about 8 colors and forced some to get the Chrome versions . The rare Option for this Hemi Cuda would be the am/fm tape player with the Mic for dictation feature as a recorder , or the 6-way manual drivers seat .
if only I had one my uncle had one but he's gone now he had got sick and sold it to a nother uncle I had he took it to Illinois and he sold it soon as he got back home and they found him next morning also he had left the world I don't no were the car went to my mama said to me bubby that will be your car some day but I was 12 years old then now 53 and just a dreamer aaaaanda dream all I got man its a bet5ful car

Better than a 1970 challenger
What is the most expensive car in the Brothers collection?
@benoitlavigne9563
4 жыл бұрын
@Jeremy Thompson That is 7 built for US, there were 2 made for Canada (1 orange, belonging to the Blake family, 1 In Violet), and 3 for export to Europe (2 Sno White and 1 in Winchester Grey, part of the Lembeck collection).
I think the 67,68 and 69 camaros were a big influence on the style of the cudas and challengers....
Has power top option, Doesnt put it down...
We're do you go to get the tag decoded to no what options the car had and is it free.

A little known fact is that Chrysler made the body color painted shaker scoop not available because customers complained about the sun blinding them from it glaring off the scoop.
Ah to drive it
Might be time to clone these cars with all the collector value with the latest after market parts and see how they perform as a result.
that was the only color you could get the hood scoop same color as the body
The 70 cudas had the shaker painted the color of the car and the 71's were all black...
@aarmancuda3570
Жыл бұрын
no, not true..only the FE5 red cars got colored matched.All other colored cars had either argent silver or matte black Shakers in 1970..1971 models got only the matte black ones..
That red hemi cuda probably doesn't have a 4.10 rear end compared to the 440-6 pack that " smoked" the tires!!
How much $$$$
So, if this was a press car when it was new, that means it was flogged, & hard.
Is this the car Joe Oldham drove? He had a lot of critcisms, to put it mildly. He talked about the Hemi convertible in his book. Not real positively.

"I have no idea why but only 14 people bought them new" Insurance premium in 1970 for a Hemi: $1100 a year - adjusted for inflation in 2023: $9000 a year.

the insurance cost was a big factor..sometimes half or two-thirds of what the monthly payment was..Plus, the Hemi option was a staggering $800.00 extra!..

Super bad!..
I think only real Mopar guys know this and it drive me crazy but from 1964 to 69 Plymouth made Barracudas and from 19i70 to 74 Plymouth made Cuda's not barracudas
@slaughterhound8793
4 жыл бұрын
Well, yes & no. You're correct in that all the '64, or '64 1/2 if you prefer to call them that, to '69 models were Barracudas. It was just the street racers on Woodward Ave. outside Detroit, that started calling them 'cudas as a slang term. That got so popular & widespread however that Plymouth Division gave up & appropriated the term for the sport model of Barracuda when the new body style for '70 came out. But there were still 1970 Plymouth Barracudas made. They were just standard cars; came with either the 225 slant-six or 318 V-8, hardly ever any of the High-Impact colors, and usually regular wheels instead of Rallyes. In 1970 the sportier model of Barracuda became known as just 'cuda, Think of it as the Plymouth equivalent of the Camaro SS, Mustang GT or Mach 1, or the Challenger R/T. The 'cuda came standard with a 383 V-8, with the bigger engines as options. Just as there was a non-R/T Challenger with a 225 or 318 also. Now, I will give you the fact that you hardly ever see a plain Barracuda from '70 or later. I believe I have only ever seen one, but they were produced. They were pleasant looking cars, sort of like six-cylinder Mustangs; the stereotype was that they were bought for high-school girls, & that might have been true though I knew some girls in high school that liked to go fast. I just wonder how many regular Barracudas from '70 & later are left that haven't been turned into 'cuda clones?
I have never liked Chryslers they never won Bathurst in Australia and they don't handle.
