This is an unmolested, #s matching, highly documented T/A! It has original invoice, 2 build sheets, window sticker, warranty papers, owner's manual and original fender tags. Sold new at St Ann Motors in Missouri 9/5/70. It has had the same owner the last 20 years. All original except 1 repaint! Very well preserved, maintained as needed.
Why is a T/A so special? They were a very limited production, high performance car based on Dodge's Trans Am race car. Only 1,411 automatics and 989 4-speeds were ever made. It was only a 1 year production. It's not just a 340 car with a 6 pack and fancy decals slapped on it. The engine blocks were actually unique to this car, built stronger. It also has special heads, modified valve train and 3 holley carbs. The burnt fuel is let out through a low restriction exhaust that exits in front of each rear tire. The rear tires are taller to give clearance to the side exhaust which also gives the car a cool stance. Other features include a Sure Grip rear, Upgraded brakes with disc in front, rallye suspension, quick ratio steering and performance tires on 15x7 wheels. It also features a lightweight fiberglass hood in flat black to eliminate glare to the driver with an air intake scoop and racing pins. Special stripes, emblems, pop up gas cap, racing mirror, blacked out grill and a dove tail spoiler make it look the part.
EXTERIOR: It looks like it has its original body panels. Original non glare, lightweight fiberglass hood with racing pins and it fits really well. It has original chin and dovetail spoilers. Optional racing mirrors on each door. Repainted only one time, original high impact Top Banana Yellow. The jambs are mostly original with original weatherstrips and VIN sticker. Original chrome including the flip top gas cap. Even the vinyl top is original. The glass is all original. Rolling on 15 inch rallye wheels with staggered size reproduction tires. They are F70s in front, taller G60s in back to raise the car for the exhaust.
INTERIOR: This is an all original interior in really great, unabused condition. The dash pad is original which means the VIN tag has never been removed! The dash pad has no splits and it has stereo speakers for the 8-track. Rare original vinyl and cloth upholstery. All of the plastic trim looks great including door panels and console. The carpet was replaced. The headliner and visors look original and in excellent shape. Optional rallye dash includes gauges, a tachometer and woodgrain. Interior light and reverse light indicator work. The highlight of the interior is the pistol grip shifter!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Original vin # matching high performance 340 6 pack. 340TA is cast right on the block, it is a unique block made stronger for the T/A. On top is the original Edelbrock intake with Holley 6-pack carbs being force fed through the ram air system. The original distributor is included. This one has optional power steering and power brakes. Overall, it looks very proper. Both fender tags are originals. The VIN on the core support and cowl match the car.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Clean metal painted yellow, new mat. Original weatherstrip. It still has it's original collapsible spare with air bottle and the jack assembly.
UNDERSIDE: It is very clean original condition, maintained as needed. Original rust free floors and frame rails. Very unique side exhaust with correct chrome tips. The fuel tank has been replaced. It has disc brakes in front, e-brake is hooked up. Looking up at the motor it is clean the VIN number stamped by the oil pan matches the car. That same exact VIN number is also stamped on it's original 4-speed trans. In back is the original 3.91 Sure Grip rear end with it's original tag.
SERVICE: Our shop inspected the car and we gave it an oil change, lowered the idle, adjusted the carbs and timing, replaced the fuel pump and the diaphragms in the secondary carbs, tightened the belts, replaced the water pump, cleaned the blower switch, replaced a brake light and lubed the rear window regulator.
Highly desirable and collectable. First off these were awesome high-performance cars. This is one of the best survivors I've seen. The fact that it's a 4-speed with a great color, nice list of options and it's so heavily documented makes this a blue-chip investment.

I have a very nice '66 Sting Ray that cost just about 57% of this T/A price tag. It's not a car I run errands with. That's what the 2013 Mazda 3 with the six speed is for.

Beautiful T/A you have there, Jay. Nice to see one with a 4 speed and Rallye gauges. Only error I can see - the front tyres should be E60 section, not F60.

It's not a Survivor if it's been painted

  • @bbb462cid

54 years is a long time and "survivor' is a vague term that means less and less. Hell "restored" means "fixed up" to most people. Survivors don't have to be 100% original and unrestored. The paint they used back then was not noted for it's long-term durability. I have no issues with a paint re-fresh if done right. if you think about it, the junkyard has lots of 'survivors'. I can name one guy that has a real "survivor" and frankly it looks like holy old hell...it still wins award for originality however. But what do I know, only been doing this for 34 years lol
