21,051 mile survivor! This is one of six cars we just purchased from the Georgia Mountain Collection. He owned it the last 16 years. The 10th anniversary comes loaded with every option including features that are not available on any other Trans-Am. This one is the highly desirable W72 performance 400 with a 4-speed. It is #s matching and includes its original documentation. We spent over $4,600 servicing this survivor, so it functions as good as it looks.
EXTERIOR: The body is outstanding, no rust or damage. The spoilers and rubber bumpers are excellent too. It was repainted one time and the finish is probably better than when it was new! The decals were replaced. The mirrored T-tops look great. Weather strips are still soft. The original turbo wheels are in very good original condition.
INTERIOR: This was a very upgraded interior compared to any other Trans-Am. The 10th anniversary was the only one available with genuine leather upholstery, embroidered birds, plush carpet, red lit gauges, and spaceship silver color. These also come fully loaded with power windows, locks, antenna, and trunk. It has a digital tape player stereo, tilt wheel, pulse wipers and a rear defroster. This one's in very good original condition: the dash, all the plastic trim, console look great. We did replace the headliner.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The W-72 was the performance 400 with a hotter cam, much improved 6x4 heads, higher compression, a special tuned carb and it was differentiated by its chrome valve covers. Of course, this one is VIN # matching to this car. The components all appear stock like it left the factory. The duct work, hoses, squirters, overflow bottle are all proper. It features working air conditioning, power steering and brakes.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Under the lid and jamb are very good original paint with original stickers and weatherstrip. Inside is clean metal with original insulated mat. The jack may have never been out of the car. It also has its original collapsible spare and air bottle.
UNDERSIDE: It is very well preserved original, there are even still original tags and markings! The floors and frame rails are dry as a chalkboard, no rust. It has the special W-S6 handling package which also includes disc brakes at all four wheels. The e-brake is hooked up. The dual exhaust is clean and has original splitter tips. Original gas tank still has its ink stamp. The oil pan is dry, never spray painted over. Clean VIN number matching 4-speed trans. In back is the original 3.23 posi with tag and paint marking still intact.
SERVICE: We inspected the car and spent $4,634 on service. We replaced some vacuum lines, installed a new radiator, adjusted the clutch, and installed a return spring. We replaced the sill plates. We rebuilt the brakes by replacing the front pads and rotors, rear brake pads and a new master cylinder. We cleaned and lubed the lock mechanisms for the power locks, installed a new headliner, replaced the turn signal bulb, charged the air conditioning, replaced passenger power window motor, repaired the passenger door lock cylinder, and replaced the power antenna.
These are very collectible Trans Arms with a proven investment history. The 10th anniversaries come optioned the same with one big exception: the 403 came with an automatic and was 40 hp less than the W72 400 which only came with a 4-speed. I'm sure you can figure out which one is the most desirable!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year membership.

Beautiful Trans Am, my favorite style '79 to '81 with that mean looking front end.

Sharp Trans AM. It took me awhile to come around to the 79 front end after the 78 but I've grown to like it.

Car is a beautiful example of a correctly restored car. With the addition of true dual exhaust with no cat converter. This mod really wakes there cars up nicely. The W72 220hp rating was the highest aloud by Pontiac because the L82 corvettes were rated at 220hp . So GM did not wan't to out do there top performance car. In reality the W72 was around 265hp with no mods. Car & Driver ran this model through the 1/4 mile around 15.3 seconds @ 96 mph. I can easily see at least a second come off this time with the closed shaker removed , a set of headers, and The clutch fan removed for testing .(35-40 hp) . The timing advanced and re curved. The q-jet adapts to the changes without mods... But if you could find a set of "CV" secondary rods you may actually run into the 13's. That's impressive

Either you like the front end treatment of these or you don't. I happen to think the front end of these is really sharp. I like it, wish I could go for it. I'm a Mopar guy, but I always liked Pontiacs. The cool thing is, this one is Pontiac powered.
