+1. And heated seats, "backup cameras", blue tooth, and "smart phone" ports. Commercials for these gyno-androgynous Jelly Bean "cars" with sjw numales, whimin shrikes and "soccer momz". Sickening how weak this Country has become.

Hemis deserve tons of respect too. A friend in high school's first car was a 360 hp '65 GTO black/black coupe. That got stolen so dad bought him a 4-speed '66 Hemi Satellite. My goodness what a car that was. Well, he totaled it coming out of a toll booth on the Garden State Parkway. Next on the list was a '67 Corvette convertible, 327/350. All these cars were while he was in the last two years of high school and the first year after graduation. He moved away and I haven't seen him since.

I bought a new 70 LS6 SS in Feb, 1970. White with Black Stripes and Black interior. As I recall right at $4,700. Probably the most fun car I ever had. I won almost all of the time but there were a couple times I lost. It was a daily driver so I kept it pretty much stock except for Headers and a different Intake and Carb. As long as I didn't touch the inside of the engine my warranty stayed intact. Sometimes I simply could not get any traction. I had the 3 Speed Auto with I think a 331 Gear. i have always wondered what would this car have been like with today's electronics. My fun car today is a Z06 A8. I have always been an Automatic Transmission person simply because I was not good with the manual clutch. I kept the 70 SS til I had 48,000 miles on it. It had a 50,000 mile powertrain warranty. And believe me this car was in the dealership for motor repairs several times. I simply didn't want to pay for the repairs myself after 50,000 miles. And the final thing was my Insurance Company in 1972 raised my premiums to $1,470 annually. I said no and traded it in on my first Corvette. The 1972 350 Corvette annual insurance premium was $270. Folks, that's what ended the Muscle Car days for me back then... This was a great video, Keep em coming.

Worked for landscape contractor back in 1970. He went to buy a "strong truck" for hauling boulders. Came back with a 454 El Camino rated at 450 hp with turbo-hydro tranny. Only got to drive it twice, both times with him in the passenger seat. He had no idea what he bought. All the weight is up front, so, even a light tap of the gas pedal spun the skinny polyglas tires. It was a monster.

Wow Jason, at least you got a 4 spd. Congrats. My first car was a '57 Chev Bel Aire, 283, 3 on the tree. I wound up putting the 3 on the floor. I quickly became an expert at rebuilding the 3 spd to install new cincros. At least once a month I had to do it and from start to finish I could be done in hour and $10 out of pocket. This was 1965. I would have giving anything for a 4 spd. The spd shift 1-2 would kill it every time. Sure wish I had that car back today. I sold it in 1969 for $750.

My friend, you should've got the one you really wanted. When I came home from military service in '68, I wanted a Mercury Cyclone GT with a 390 4bbl with over 300hp. I ended up settling for a '68 Cougar with a 289. Nice car, but just not enough pop. Less than a year later, I decided I was getting some muscle under my rear end and started looking around. Looked at all makes, Road Runners, Super Bee's, Chargers, Chevelles, GTO's, Buick Gran Sports. When I looked at the Chevelles, I just loved the way they looked. I debated on what engine to get. It was gonna be an SS, so, do I get the 325hp, the 350, or the big one, 375. After test driving one, I got the big boy and never looked back. What a car. So much fun to drive. I'm now 70 yrs old and still like driving the muscle cars of today. My youngest son has a 2016 Taurus SHO and Mustang GT and I drive them maybe once a week and it's still fun.

My all-time favorite Muscle car. My former coworker who retired got the LS6 70 Chevelle he's had it since 1988 and took real great care of it. Keeps it in the garage car cover wash and wax it from time to time and only brings it out in spring and summers. Currently sitting at 7421miles. He let me take it for a spin one time I was all smiles that I finally got to drive one. I'm currently looking for one myself. A guy in Arizona beat me to it I was 3 minutes to late when trying to buy one. The guy sold it.

when I was about eight or nine years old in the early seventies there was not one, but two '70 SS's in my neighborhood. Back in the 70s, if you had a street car that ran in the low 14 seconds you had a really fast car. Back then racing was a weekend hobby and people would scan the local paper for used speed parts in hoping to make their cars just a tad quicker. Today, that fun is long gone.

Even the pony cars; Challenger, Mustang and Camaro were evolving into performance monsters.... Then 1971, everything started changing. I love the early years of the muscle car/pony car wars, but 1970 was the perfect storm of bonkers power, and GORGEOUS, flowing lines. The TH 400 was Gm's first and best 3spd automatic transmission. It's design was similar to the 727 Torqueflite, designed by Chrysler a couple years earlier. To get around patent violations GM put first gear in the front of the transmission instead of the rear basically mounting the gears backwards. They also added a vacuum modulator to help control the transmission shift points. Later on, in 1968 Chevrolet brass wanted a transmission that failed sooner so that they could sell more parts and services to its customers. The then designed the TH 350 which was a smaller, more lightweight transmission. The man in difference between the TH400 and TH 350 was that unlike every other transmission ever made to that time the input shaft was not supported by any bearing between the two shafts. This allowed both shafts to float around inside the transmission. Any support the two shafts got was due to the clamping pressure provided by the clutch packs. So, if you're building a hot rod and want to use a three speed automatic dig around for a TH400. One side note, the '67 TH 400 used a switch pitch torque converter. If you can find one use a switch pitch converter out of a super turbine 300 transmission from a midsize Buick and you have a Converter with between 2500 to 300 rpm stall speed that is much more efficient on the top end. This was GM's way to increase efficiency before lock up converters were invented. They were dropped because of cost and complexity, which isn't really all that complex. Good luck!

1971 a guy from my home town traded his 454LS6 in foa a family car due to the impending birth of a child. It was also when my Daddy said " Go by the Chevy dealership and pick out your car". I was so excited, he was good friends with the dealership owner and the guys there had watched me grow from a knee hi bug to a teen. Unknown to Dad that Chevelle was on the lot not only that, he made me learn to drive a stick before I could get my license. Long story short the day after I told him what I had selected that beauty of a machine, at the dinner table that night he said " Go pick something else, you can't have that car.". Why not, did it cost too much? The only answer I got was " That car will kill you." I cried, I begged but he remained set on no. I went back the next morning to look over the other cars but my heart was set, and as I sat there in the car bawling my eyes out the co owner walked up and told me what had happened the day before. Daddy took it out for a test drive, got to the long straight away out of town and punched it, it got down in first, loose in second and sideways before it was over, enough said. A broken hearted daughter with a Daddy that loved her enough to say no. I was still mad for a long time, not only that I never got a car cause if I couldn't have that one I didn't want one. Daddy called it, cutting off my nose to spite my face! Lol almost forgot it was Back Cherry with Cowel induction and a Hurst Shifter, thinking about it and watching the video brought this old woman to tears, funny how memories are.

My college roommate in 1970-71 had a red 70 SS454 w/cowl induction, Muncie 4 spd, & black stripes. He was from Modesto, L. Skiles, and had also ordered an SS396. He decided to take the first one thst showed up, which was the 454. Beautiful car, I can still hear that throaty whine…

My dad passed away 5 years ago and my brothers and I have one of his many muscle cars, the 1970 LS6 454 4speed chevelle. It does need to be restored but its always been inside and is super clean. All original motor and trans, does anyone know what it would be worth? We have everything needed to restore it, from trim to new GM original front fenders even tho the ones on the car are still usable. Thanks!

It's worth a fortune if you like to be a freeway star. It's priceless if you don't sell or wreck it , it will only increase in value as time goes on. Don't let it get away for nothing, you will regret it .

Its not a real SS unless you can show a build sheet, no other way to prove it. The build sheet can be found in several different areas of the car. On top of the fuel tank, stuffed in the springs in the back seat, glued to the inside of the passenger door panel, etc.. If you find a build sheet it is like finding as much as $50,000 added value depending on the options your car has. A 1970 Chevelle SS without a build sheet is worth in good to excellent condition, $25,000 to $60,000 depending on options. A real SS with build sheet would be $35,000 to $100,000+

I was pumping gas at GEX store in 1971. One of the guys bought a 454 Chevrolet. He was afraid of it! Too powerful.

There was a black 454 cowl induction SS convertible parked at the place we ate last night. My dad (a guy who owned a couple muscle cars) about lost his mind when he saw it in the parking lot. He said this was the one that literally no one messed with back in the day. He said whoever owned this car either had owned it a very long time or had a very big wallet.

I owned a '70 Chevelle SS-454 for 15 years. It was a plain jane LS-5 car with an M-22 four speed and bench seat interior. Even with the "lowly" LS-5 engine, the car was a beast on the street and drag strip. I didn't take the car to the track much but I never lost a drag race to any Ford or Mopar when I did. I raced in the street class. The trick was trying to get traction off the line. Fun times. BTW: There was a '64 Malibu SS. It could be ordered with any engine, including a straight six...but you're right, '65 was the first year a big block could be ordered in the Malibu.

A friend of mine had a 70 LS6 454 he bought from a guy that his dad owned a sandwich shop that i worked at.He paid like 450 dollars back in 1989 or 1990.If i remember right me and a friend we're offered first dibs on the car but we didn't have the money. The one problem with the car was that the next owner had replaced the torque converter and it kept blowing the transmission lines. He later sold it but from what he told me he gave it away.A numbers matching car at that.Thats the way things go.? I remember going to car lots back in the day and seeing cars that went for nothing but are worth a mint now.

Tell me about it. My first 4-4-2 - triple black conv - needed a new top, and I had bypassed the heater the previous Summer, due to a leak. Finally, I cracked the windshield with a PLASTIC ice scraper, so I traded it in on a '71 Impala coupe. I doubt I got $200 for my Olds. What would it have been worth Today?

My friends dad has a forest green one with just a hair less than 10K miles on it. All original, never taken apart. It sits under a tarp in the garage they run. His dad used to trailer it to a show once a year, but got tired of people asking to buy it.
