I learnt in school how to type on a Classic 12 with blank keys so that you wouldn’t look at your fingers. I just picked one up, with a case, at the local thrift store for $5. I’m pleased as punch!

We just got one and the ribbon guide doesn't move up when striking so no ink is being used. Do you know where I can go to find out what is wrong? Website-wise. I can't seem to find anything. Thanks.

Do you know you can lift that return lever up to sit at a better position? It only sits that low for storage generally.

Yes. This is a very old video.

I have a Classic 12 but the tab set and release are on the right side of the typewriter, so it is probably a different year. Can you tell me where the name comes from? I have been told that the 12 stood for a 12-in carriage, but I think it stands for elite type. If I remember correctly, elite was 12 and pica was 10. If this is anything close to the one I have, it is a wonderful typewriter and absolutely top of the line. All I need to find is some of the stuff that was kind of like a gob of bubble gum - you used it to lift out any ink that got stuck inside the keys. Any ideas who might sell that? I enjoyed this trip down memory lane so much. Thank you for posting this!

The "12" references the carriage length. Try a craft store for the other item.

How do you change the ribbon? My husband changed the ribbion but he didn't put in correctly because when trying to type it pops up. please help

I recommend watching several of the videos we have for the Classic 12, especially the newer ones, to help thread the ribbon. Plus, click on the link in the description (on the newer videos) so you can see an up-close video of how the ribbon is threaded.

Hello! I just got this typewriter. I pressed that key with the down arrow and two lines underneath and now it’s stuck there and I can’t type. What is that button, and how can I undo so that I can type?

Hi. That key is supposed to release stuck keys. I don't know why yours is sticking. It would have to be looked at by someone. I'm assuming you purchased your typewriter from someone else?

Video has top of typewriter cut off. Your arm is also obscuring the view.
