I have this exact machine in this exact condition w/ case. Very happy with it. Really the only thing that makes this machine not perfect is the absence of half line spacing, as we have in almost all european machines.

I wanted to buy one of these but the seller finally responded after a week that he sold it. The ad is still up 2 weeks later. Same color. Got a SC Standard, 1937, instead. Fits with my Monroe calculators better anyway. Just need to clean the WD-40 out of there (can smell it, very distinctive).

I can't believe I never knew about the variable release button! I've used a 12 since childhood and had no idea, you have made my typing sooo much easier, thanks for doing these videos.

It seems the Classic was the better model and the Galaxie was the lesser model. Classic had the half spacer. I finally got a Galaxie 12. Nice to know rattling across the page is normal. $20. Now I’ll keep an eye out for a classic.

I recently bought that exact model. But in blue or navy blue or even a dark turquoise. I don't know the exact color but every time I use it I can smell the fresh ink and that makes me know that I got a good typewriter! (:

Morning Duane, because of this video, I purchased the same typewriter. Like the one you showed, it was hardly used so the space bar is a little sticky when you first use it. But after you use it, it seems to work itself out. But, how do I fix that problem so when you first use it, it doesn’t stick? Thanks!

“Bulletproof” ain’t far off the mark…this machine was manufactured during the cold war. A sterling (pardon the SC pun) example of superior engineering of the “free world” and it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if this Model was designed to stop Warsaw Pact weaponry. We was paranoid back then, is what I’m saying, but consumers got some top-quality equipment for the home and office

I remember you commenting at one point that it was a shame Smith-Corona never painted any in this series red...so when I had to disassemble mine to clean up some rust inside the case (looked like a previous owner had spilled soda on it), I did exactly that. Turned out great!

I have the same machine in Gray and black. Iit is absolutely wonderful and top of the line. Thanks for the explanation of a few things I had wrong. I thought 12 stood for elite type and 10 stood for pica type. I stand corrected! I have two questions for you: I can't remember how to use the gauge on the left of the roller that allows you to tell when you're getting toward the end of a piece of an 8 1/2 by 11 paper. Also, can you still get the gummy thing we used to press onto the keys that took off the ink caked in them? My type is starting to look a little thick, so I know I need to clean the keys. Thanks so much!

Hello, End Page guide, couldn't tell ya, but, you can download/print a book from here: site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/tw-manuals.html Type cleaning blobs, not readily available, try silly putty, or just wipe of with rag

What’s the difference between classic 12 and galaxie 12

  • @phoenixtypewriter2136

Not much, I think the Classic 12 might have 1/2 space feature, tab set/clr in different positions Not much, Smith Corona was king of using the same machine with slight differences & model names

Great typing sound. My Classic 12 is more muffled. If I sent you the machine, could you make it sound like this one, or is there a trick to learn?

Hi there! I have this exact model typewriter, but I am having some issues with it. Could you help me trouble shoot? It won't move forward when I type unless it is on caps lock.. It moves forward when I hit the spacebar for some reason. Nothing is impeding the carriage from moving back and forth when I press the release down. If you have any ideas, I'd appreciate your help so much. :)

@@phoenixtypewriter2136 Wow! I really appreciate the quick response! As far as I can tell, yes. It works fine when it's on caps lock. If there wasn't enough tension, wouldn't it not work at all? I honestly have no idea.
