and the fact that jay never discriminates about what car he has on the show from race cars to classic american to classic British, classic Japanese, classic Italian, classic German to modern versions of all the same countries and more if it is interesting at least lol even if its one of his own cars he just is all around truly passionate about cars and the history and everything that goes with it... so glad he has this channel...

Tyler T He did! And one of the best column in the series (apart from Derek Bell) he talks from his love to steam engine, stories about how he was offered Lincoln Continental that was located only few miles from his garage that he is unaware of, the death of independent repairshop down to how some people behave when they lose Pebble Beach and how someone tried to make fake "Corvette Jay Leno edition" and offered in Barrett-Jackson auction.

Hey Jay, just a little bit of info. My dad was in Japan after WW2, he was in transport and was a mechanic, had a workshop post war. His story about why Nissan was marketed as Datsun was because during the war the tanks and other japanese war machinery had NISSAN painted along the sides in large lettering. The company thought that America and Australia would react to the name so decided to go with Datsun.
I love the sound of that engine.

Cory Banning indeed, they're great. Maybe the OP's point was regarding the fact he's a more lived gent, as he mentioned in the video back in the 50s-60s people in the US didn't had the best impression of Japan, and so older generations tend not to appreciate what was made over there. Thankfully that's quite something typical of the [ignorant] minority, something Jay is not at all.

Back in high school my friend had a Datsun with a straight 6 Dual over head cams . This was 1979 / 1980. It worked very well for a 4 door. The Datsun cars in the 1970's made a name because they were fast. This Skyline is awesome! Nothing better than a factory race car!
Damn, that raspy sound, the pops and crackles when he lifts the throttle. Just awesome.
I live a couple streets up from jays shop I’ve seen him driving and filming so many times the one time i don’t see him is when he’s driving one of my all time favorite cars
The reason for the name Skyline is likely from the name of one of the more scenic roads in the country: The Hakone Skyline. It also extends a into the Izu Skyline, and is continued to be loved by drivers and weekend "racers" to this day. This makes sense to me but I don't know the true history myself.

I'm not a big fan of all the cars Leno highlights; i love this type of type of stuff. I really appreciate Leno's love of all things that make noise, explode, and bring a smile to one's face. I love how he devotes his time and money to the restoration of all types of vehicles from all era's and nationalities. What i really loves is he uses them and runs them as they should be.
This car is the definition of timeless design. What a beauty. This would have a spot in my dream garage, the attention to detail and racing heritage , and man that sound. Makes me think of very, very dirty things.
I NEVER liked jay on his late night show, but God damn do I love this show. Him being interested in what hes talking about is so much more fun to watch

This car sounds glorious. Love this channel great detail and information. Much better than top gear.
The sound. The stealth. Love this car.
What a good history lesson! For me, not knowing much about the history of Japanese motorsports, this was very informative. And what a beautiful sounding and looking car!
The bonnet edge right above the left and right headlights is slightly different. Has anyone else noticed that?
@Colt45hatchback
3 жыл бұрын
it would be my guess it's a bad repair, the back panel looks like it's got a lot of filler in it or its warped from a small accident and wasn't repaired before repainting, the pinch weld on the driver's side sill is bent too, guess it's hard to have such a rare car in absolutely immaculate condition, as they weren't all that expensive for a long time, so it probably wasn't worth a concourse restoration when it was done.

I think at the time, mirrors weren't mandatory and they could choose either if they wanted one on both sides and where they wanted them on the car. Obviously now it's standardised but I think it's fairly common for cars of that age
Wow I can’t believe I’m seeing Jay drive this!! So happy! Let him drive all the skylines please!
Utterly gorgeous car. That front end is a work of art. If a modern car was built with this sort of styling, I'd snatch one up immediately. It looks tough and charming, like a business casual gangster with knuckle dusters in his pocket. Much as I love the modern GTR, I'd step over one to get one of these.
This car, through the tiny screen of my phone, gives me goosebumps and childlike daydreams. Thanks Jay!
Don't forget that Skyline GT-R dominated Japanese Touring Car since, even makes 49 consecutive victory back to back until Mazda Savanna GT (RX-3 to most of the world) showed up and challenged the domination. Skyline did ended up winning it's 50th victory in 1972.

raiden z how are they "destroying" it? By doing fun videos directed by them with entertaining and arguably tasteful content? Perhaps you prefer the "contribution" of commercial crap shows like the dudes from Gas Monkey Garage playing make pretend, those are surely the ones keeping anything alive, uh... On the bottom line, I can't understand your hate towards a channel with a friendly and entertaining approach to things, who have always tried to make their videos with a sort of motivational and DIY vibe on them, if motivating people to get into the car scene and work on their own cars is killing it, then I don't know how could someone possibly contribute to keep it alive.
Wow!! Nice. The original 240Z was a lot of fun. I had a 1994 Sentra SE-R and it was a great little car!

Like Jay said, really timeless and unassuming/understated design. This is one of the nicest original (mostly original) examples I've seen and that engine just sounds great revving to red-line. I didn't know so few were made in Japan, it's a shame there aren't more surviving examples which is why this is pulling crazy money these days.

What a great video and it featured one of my favourite cars! 👍 About the C10 Skyline: it actually got sold in LHD configuration on the European mainland as the Nissan 2000GT and 2400GT using the L series engine that was also available in the 240Z. AFAIK a few hundred were sold in the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium and Findland alongside the ordinary Datsun. It also raced in a few endurance races throughout Europe, but was never successful.
Very Nice car and video! I'm still waiting the contest or lottery to visit your garage Jay! Thanks

Thanks Jay fir sharing al this pretty and fun stuff cars. Much appriciated 😊

Niiiiiiiiice, real nice! 🤩
Regarding the Skyline name origin, it was named after the blue sky and white mountains of the Northern Alps that Shinichiro Sakurai (the father of the Skyline) saw while skiing in Shiga Kogen, Japan. I read this in an Australian motor magazine on the release of the C110 series Skyline where they interviewed Nissan's famous Shinichiro Sakurai.
Leno is a true car guy. Not particular about any country like a lot of people. But he likes all vehicles period. And that’s a true enthusiast
