1968 Ferrari Dino 206 GT Drive - The Sound of Vintage Italian Greatness (POV Binaural Audio)
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Driving 1 of 152 Ferrari Dino 206 GT. This is 1 of 7 finished in Verde Scuro and it features a mid mounted 2.0L Aluminum V6 that revs to 8,000 RPM. Its gated 5 speed transmission and manual steering make this car incredibly rewarding to drive.

"That's just the V6...its nothing special" - is what I heard growing up. Boy were those folks wrong! Please enjoy the incredible sounds of this rare 206 GT and forgive me for being tongue tied saying 206 Dino GT in the intro.

TBH, we always remember the sound of Lancia Stratos with this similar engine as amazing, so no wonder this one sounds just as good. However, this is no ordinary V6, as it's 65 degrees angle, and have a crankshaft with separate crankpins like a boxer.

Wow, 2000lbs, 9lbs/hp, double wishbones, disk brakes, and 60s sounds/styling! That sounds absolutely ideal for having fun at legal speeds!
I love that you actually drive the cars spiritedly when reviewing them. So many reviewers just putter around at 2k rpms and go on and on about random shit for 30 minutes, it's refreshing to hear what cars are like when being revved out. That's why I love watching this channel.

God the noises old Italian sports cars make is incredible
This guy is living the dream right there :) Amazing!
Now these are pops & bangs I can get behind, absolute music to my ears. I've said that the Celica had gorgeous interior but man, that dash, gated manual and thin, monstrous wooden wheel to give you a pain in your palms after manouvering that car around the town for a while... it doesn't get better than that!
The 206 only existed due to Italian Tax Laws at the time, as cars with engines 2 litres capacity or smaller were much cheaper to tax than cars over 2 litres in capacity and they were all made in 1968. The engine was also used in the Fiat Dino coupe and spider (around 4700 made between 1966 and 1969), though the engine was in the front.

206 exist because of Formula 2 homologation requirement. FIA regulations at the time stated that F2 race engines had to be based on production car engines and in order to homologate the race engine 500 road cars powered by that unit has to be produced within 12 months (65-66). Ferrari being a small manufacturer didn't have the capacity to do so and hence came into an agreement with Fiat for the production of the engines and development of road cars. But yes Italian 2.0L tax threshold did exist for the domestic market.
My favorite part about the Dino is the view out from the inside. The round front fenders are visible in a way that somewhat resembles the look of old race cars like the 330 p4 almost which is cool to me
I always loved a small lightweight car. They are so much fun.
Perhaps the most beautiful car ever made imo!
I remember seeing my first 246. I was 12 years old and stood next to a yellow one parked at the kerb in Liege, Belgium. I was looking down onto it, even as a kid. What a beautiful, low shape!
I bought a used 74’ Fiat Spider when I was 18 years old in 1974 and owned for five years during university. Probably spent $10,000 in maintenance and repairs! However, watching this video reminds me how truly lucky I was at the time and brings back some great memories. The Dino is my all time favourite car even though it was totally unattainable at the time. I am 6’-5” and would never be able to fit anyway. Great video!!!

I heard the intro and without thinking appreciated that ferocious v12 sound. Then when he said "v6" I blinked for a second before snapping back to reality. SURELY if Ferrari could get a v6 to sound that good in the 60s, a modern company could do something to at least approach this.

@@TedwardDrives Ted, I have to give you a lot of credit for your skills. I've been carrying a Class A CDL for about 50 years and matching gears matters! It's a sad thing that auto-boxes are the standard of the day and most people think that's just fine. They just don't realize what they're missing... but we do! I spent a few years in sales in a Ferrari shop "in another lifetime" and we had a 246 in the shop awaiting a replacement head for what seemed like forever. Even in 1990, parts were hard to come by and anything coming from Italy took forever plus a couple of years!! A suggestion that might make the "special" Italian steering wheels a bit easier to live with comes from driving quite few way back when. People always seemed to comment that the steering wheel was so uncomfortable in a Ferrari or Fiat or just about any Italian car. If you take your seat and get comfortable and then forget the "10 & 2 position" that the old driving instructors used to demand. Move your hands down to about "8 & 4" and push the wheel up and down as necessary instead of pulling it. It feels right and works just fine. You don't get worn out trying to stretch so far and I enjoyed the ride much more!
If I heard this engine without video, I 100% would’ve guessed it was a V12. Not only that, this engine sounds better than many V12’s, including the original BMW 850i, Jaguar XJS and any Mercedes SL600, SL65 AMG.
Love the Dinos . Amazing engine sounds. I remember years ago people overlooked these cars along with the 308gt4

This just easily became one of my favorite cars again. When I was a kid, the Dino was one of my favorites and I feel bad for forgetting about it. What a sound, man. That car could top out at 20 mph and I would still pay $600k for it.
Many, many moons ago, I had a day with a 246. It wasn't super quick, and the rear end could get a bit naughty, but the handling was an absolute joy.
Pure mechanical engineering, no squeaks or rattles, 50s/60s sports cars are the best.

Ahem, as I can tell, there was just one aluminium-bodied 308 GT4, chassis 8020, made for Luigi Chinetti's NART racing team to race at Le Mans. It's a pure race car built to race at Le Mans.... Apart from that, the 308 GT4 was steel bodied. The 308GTB was initially GRP and then became steel bodied.
