The srory of the nephew recounting the aunt telling him as a kid while riding as a passenger in this car to put on his seatbelt as they waited for the light to turn green as they were being challenged by the car next to them, then when the light turned green she "smoked'm" was priceless.
No matter the condition of the car, treating the owners with kindness and, consideration, and understanding is what this is truly about. 😊
Very touching!!! You can feel the love these people had for that old car!!!

You can see the love for the car and the sadness of letting it go by looking at the expressions in the older gentleman's face.

Seldom do we get the chance to talk to original owners from the 1960s, but with this story we got to meet them in person and get first hand stories.
Wow I bought my 67XR7 in similar fashion with 32k on the odometer. Took 2 weeks to get it running. 6 months later I brought it back to the original owners out of respect. I chased that car for 25 years and after the husband passed the wife told me she was so happy it went to me. She gave me a homemade sweater which still rides in the car. Great story on this cougar.

Sounds like a heart warming story, one that we would have come along to film. I urge people to give me me the chance on these. I let the people watch the videos before we publish, and same with the story, if it goes in my column in Hot Rod. People can just email me at jerryheasley@gmail.com
This brought tears in my eyes. My logic says when the cougar hits the road again they ought to be passengers.

Because it really hurts to know you are almost dead and to watch the things you loved be sold off.
That man really didn't want to get rid of that car. You could see it in his eyes!
She is a true car person. You can hear the passion in her voice.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ANOTHER VIDEO, OFF CAR RESTORED AND DRIVING THAT LOVELY COUPLE DOWN TO THE LAKE FOR COFFEES. THAT WOULD MAKE THEM VERY HAPPY.
i drove a 68 for 20 years with the small block, finding an unrestored 427 GTE has always been my biggest dream
I had a new 68 302, 4 bbl, 4 spd, with factory AC as my first car. Light metallic blue with white interior. I was 16, working full time and going to school full time. I blew the trans in it on the way from Reno to Vegas at about 90 MPH in the rain. Very exciting when it locked up and when into a slide. Sold the car to pay for college. Should have kept it, I could have paid for a large part of my Daughters college. Added an 8-track, 4 speakers, cut-outs, glass packs, air-shocks in the rear and American Mags all around.

Beautiful find! That's probably my favorite Stang! And my favorite engine! Thanks for the nice ride on the nice finds!
Great story about and awesome car. Glad to hear about it going to someone who will appreciate it and know it will be treated appropriately.
I remember my father buying one in 68, it was quick. Somebody stole it & we got it back wrecked,got it fixed & then my mother got rear ended & it was totaled, I was 5 years old then remember it like it was yesterday. Those were good year's.
LOVE Cougars. Had a 1970 429 CJ. Classy and FAST!

Could easily cost 100 K to restore.
In the 1960’s a classmate’s father was a Judge in our county. He drove a Cougar then. Over the decades I would see him, and he was always driving a different model Cougar.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I have been a part of quite a few of these stories and cherish them all!
That car was a well loved family member that was set free to be allowed to live again :)
Jerry, Wow, what a find, great story and video , nice to see it going to a place for new life.

You know he has knocked a few dents in it over the years.....and the car, too ;) You can tell by the look in his eyes that $60k worth of hookers n blow is on the schedule...
Hopefully they get to ride in it again after it has been restored
Very cool car and a very moving story.
Holy shit. Extremely touching
My father had one, he passed away, but I will own one one day!!!!!
Bring her back to life Jim. Then take the couple for a memory lane cruise. "It was the Kids High School Car"!! Very fortunate it is still complete. Rare Gem
Poor old man was sad to see it go you could see it in him very sad thing
You can tell how much it really hurts the couple to sell that car. I totally understand how they feel.
The nice old couple look sad selling their cherished valuable Cougar. But Mr Robie really looks like he does not want to sell it but maybe has to for the money. Hope they got the true value of such a rare and desirable Cougar. Would have been great to see such a rare, original Cougar at public auction like other great barn finds recently.
Very very rare car
I understand why Jerry told us the price he gave for that car and if he could have he would have gave them a hundred thousand for that car.i look at that couple and they remind me of my mom and dad.

I included the price because so many readers want to know the price and the buyer and seller had no problem with me revealing the price.
Sold our 66 corvette , roadster. Rare trophy blue automatic two years ago, my wife loved that car.After watching this video I'm so sorry I am so sorry.
Thanks, We special,ordered a 1977 TRANS am/ Special ED/Hurst Hatch/loaded in OCT OF *1976: driving & using car for many years: lost to rusty road salt and use , etc. Anyways, understand.
."...put your seat belts on..." Classic. Maybe if all agree: They would have the option to revisit the completed car just one more time...
Filmed by a potato with a turnip, but one great story .Happy it was caught on film. The old girl loved that car. If that car could talk the stories ,daughter high school,mama drag racing.
I loved riding in this car! Turner took it to Freemont and collected time slips there. I sorta remember a little different story on the first engine 😊.

@terrydunn5784

@@thewriter2549 No, this was from about Jan - June of 69. The first outing to Freemont he did 14.27 @ 101 and change. He had cut the hood and if I remember, swapped the distributor for a dual-point ball bearing version? one. He worked for Philco Ford too, I believe. The original block had been replaced by then too.
Very rare car
God bless America.....Where we love our cars like family!
Great video.
The looks from the old timer...priceless...dude looks mad as hell
Bless their hearts
If it was my grandparents I know at least my grandmother would be saying "Well we finally got that car out of there." With a substantial infusion of money they wouldn't be losing a child, they'd be gaining an easier life and a sigh of relief. But it is a very interesting Cougar I had no idea was made and prompted me to click on another link with one completely restored.
Touching
Jim is the perfect owner for this car

I have a '68 Dan Gurney Special I got from the original owners, love these cars. I had spotted a craigslist add in Massachusetts for a '68 GT-E 428 4 speed, one of 3 ever made. I sent the add to Jim about 7 years ago, don't know where it went from there.
THIS is what Cougar enthusiasts all dream about!!! Of course, we dream that we can buy it for 2500 bucks too. :) I'm a long time Classic Cougar enthusiast, have e-chatted with Royce and Jim many times. They are probably the two best-known and well respected members of the Classic Cougar Community. I also see Don Rush has commented - he is THE MAN to go to when you need parts, I got a feeling he'll be supplying some goodies for the restoration. Can't believe these 'barn finds' are still out there. I love how supposed 'Ford' People and other muscle car fans will argue til their face turns Ford blue that you could never get a 427 side-oiler in Cougar from the factory! hahaha. You could. But you could NOT get a Mustang 'W'- code!!
@thewriter2549
6 жыл бұрын
I agree. Do you remember the rumors of the W-code 1968 Mustang that circulated years ago? I believe the Mustang was in Australia?
Best video I've ever seen in my lifetime
I feel the same way about divulging the price. Don't care if people wanna know. Whether I keep It or not, don't matter one bit what I paid for it. It's what the next buyer is willing to pay. I'm in the minority though. Most guys are all secretive about what they paid.
I love good kitties and bad cats alike!
Nice rare car
It’s a cool old car for sure. The buyer paid 60k and will dump another 40k or so into it and flip it for a huge profit more then likely.
Clean it up get it up and running nice clean up the inside.make it smell nice...drive it back and take them for a ride
Sweet find 👍
It’s going to absolutely the right guy to bring her back to life!
It is a sad day when you realise that someone could take better care of your family member than yourself.
I was in second grade, my teacher had one, I rode in it to the store, it was brand new.
I know how that women and her husband feel. Back in the 70's I had a 67 cougar. I look back and thinks how I love'd that car.
they'll be crusin in the kingdom of heaven. I wish people still stayed together like previous generations d
That music choked me up as I was looking into the sellers eyes. They really looked sad to see it go. Don't understand why they said, it's time for it to go.

Better than leaving the car rot, Burnice said. At his age, Turner could no longer work on the Cougar, parked since 1974. Did you watch part 2?
That's my dream car.
Beautiful car, all it needs is a 4spd Rock Crusher manual transmission....
she loved that car
Is the hood a special part for the 427s? Always wanted an XR7 but a 427 would be amazing.

Leopoldo Chatz Mata Oh I agree my friend. I'd be thrilled to have a 67-69 but in a perfect world and if I could pick them I'd have to go for a 68 427. It's just been a top choice dream car of mine for many years. A 69 428 Super Cobra Jet Mach One 4 speed is up there too. The 67-69 Cougar is just a different animal though. Only people that know will talk about them. I like that it's kind of a hidden gem amongst enthusiasts.

Kevin Ball In 1976,when I was 17 yrs old I bought a 67Cougar gt for$650. Factory 390marader 4spd,limited slip, I still have dreams of my times in that car....
@07zx14White
6 жыл бұрын
Leopoldo Chatz Mata Well at least you'll always have those memories. Hahaha, $650 for a 67 Cougar big block. Obviously it was more money back then but still. Ah the FE block 390. I've always had a fondness for the FE block engines as well, 352, 360, 390, 428 and there was a surprising amount of more configurations with the FE. Remember the Cammer 427 FE with the miles long timing chain? Was banned from certain race organizations because it won too much. My memory is a little spotty on it but it was something like that. Too bad that was never a very accessible engine.

Kevin Ball Tru dat,my friend !
The Cougar was the only car the 427 was offered in 1968...and as I understand it you didn't get a choice, the car was sold as a 7 liter and you either got a 427 or a 428...mostly 428's. The 427 is the W code with one 4150 holley carb, hydraulic lifters, single point vacuum advance distributer, and 10.9:1 compression and could have either an aluminum or cast iron intake manifold depending on the date it rolled off the plant line...definitely a running car but not quite the Race engine the R codes were.
@donrush5690

Most had the 427, the very last part of the model year the GTE option came with 428 CJ with functional ram air.
@Johnnycdrums

I don't care how smooth the 428 CJ or 428 SCJ is. Nothing sounds like the 427 "R" code.
i found one totaled in 1975 for $ 900 in washington
My first was a 69, hugger orange 351
Her last sentence couldn't have said it better
it just occurred to me after two videos that i have an original headlight door for one of these, don't know if its 67 or 68. years ago a big company here asked one of his employees and me to tear down an old shut down parts house on his property and gave us all the stuff inside. lots of new old stock parts and some used stuff. only one head light door, lots of old manuals, a new box of lincoln v12 valve springs, a few pieces of new molding etc. if anyone needs the headlight door i guess post on here and ill probably see it. hate to give out my email address.
Put your seat belt on PRICELESS
Boy they sure did love it by letting it sit decades at a time lol
Please do a video of the car when its restored.
Is there a link to see the update of the car
I thought ford did not have VINs stamped on their blocks. I thought the only way to ID was a date code behind the starter?
@thewriter2549
6 жыл бұрын
Not every block is stamped with the last six digits of the VIN. I am working on a Part 2 with numbers matching information in which Royce Peterson will explain.
I almost bought one with no motor back in 1999 for $2000 but when I came back with the money 2 hours later he changed his mind. Lesson, never negotiate a deal without the cash on hand. Still stings today.
Yeah the rite thing to do is when it's done, offer to take them for a blast, they got 60 large, they can swing the plane fare if a flight away
Didn't these cars come standard with steel belted radials, and front disk brakes, like T-Bird or Lincoln?
Off subject here... kind of at least. In 68 how many 390 Gt 4 speeds were there that didn’t come as a XR7?
Them people were acting all sad but u know when they left with the car they were saying "suckers" u just paid us 60 thou for something we paid 4 thou for and drove the piss out of !! Hahahhaha
Aww she's crying 😭
My dad had this exact car with the optional ram air hood and all. He also had a 69 xr7 with 428cj. I still remember both those cars today. Man talk about fast and nimble. Nothing touched either of them cars and it pissed a lot of people off when he smoked them. They were so lite and so fast. My godfather had a 69 cutlass 442 with w30 package convertible with the 455 and a 70 cutlass 442 w30 455 and they both went to New England drags every weekend I’ll never forget those days.
Beutiful
And killed me to watch these people let go of something that they dearly loved. But if you're going to sell it to somebody I think they sold it to the right person. I would have sold it on one stipulation that I want to see it and finish condition
Seems like part of the old man left with that cougar.

Bet that thing could go 150+
Never seen a hood like that before, come to think of it, dont think i have seen one of these with a factory big block before. Thats a pretty rare piece... if it were only a four speed. Still hate those Pinto shifters... weak and anemic looking. The emotion of those folks could not go un-noticed, its like losing a member of your family.

Thumbs up only because the buyer didn't rip the owners off at $60,000. Fair price. Video could have did without the woman's swirly emotional feelings but the look in the old man's eyes is priceless, grinning from ear to ear sleeping on a pile of money every night.
