Absolutely fabulous series of videos. I've really learned a lot from them. In the mid '70's i worked in England. My mates helped me find a Triton to ride. It had a lot of nice bits and stuff used in the build. They commented that it had a 9 stud Bonney head which was a good feature. I realized what they were talking about, but your videos really demonstrated what the 9 stud head was about. I'll certainly be subscribing to your channel. I've been around long enough to realize that someone who makes it look that easy has definitely done the work before.

Triumph the motorcycle that makes a mechanic 🧰 out of a ordinary man. Timeless truth. Have had my 1965 TR-6 with a hard tail and magneto for 40 years. Have had my Sportster for 25 years and 400,000 miles on the original engine 🚂.

I have a Fairbanks Morce magneto on my Triumph 1965 TR-6 with a bolt on hard tail. Had this motorcycle for 40 years. Split the cases once to change the camshafts that have lasted 50 years. Older motorcycles are made to be rebuiltable forever ♾️. When you look at an old bike and think about how many owners it out lived. They will certainly out live us no doubt.

When taking the rocker boxes off a 650 Triumph, should I have the cylinder set a certain way (like at top dead center or at the bottom of the stroke)...,or does it not matter? I thought there was a way to do it so the rockers aren't under any pressure when you pull the rocker boxes off. I need to replace some push rod seals and I've never taken a top end apart. I'm kind of looking forward to it. Still not sure what size push rod seals to use but I guess the kit comes with a few different options.

You’ll want both valves closed on the side you’re working on, just turn it over slowly until both rockers have some slack. With the pushrod tube seals … Either get an assortment or measure the ones that you take off. With new pushrod tube seals you should have, about the space of another head gasket. If you go too big you can warp the head of bend the lips at the end of your pushrod tubes.

Where do you buy your triumph parts from? Also, I have a 1966 T100SC with 8k miles that has sat protected since 1973. What are your thoughts on the whole sludge trap issue? Planned on inspecting the engine and fixing any leaks or issues in the top end but didnt want to have to do a complete tear down to get it running. Any input is appreciated, also I really enjoy how thorough your videos are man, keep it up!

The reason I felt confident about this motor is when I opened it up and everything looked almost spotless, like it'd never ran. I also think there's a cam in this bike, which means the bottom has been opened. I just use my gut. If you buy the bike and it's covered in oil and leaks, low compression... I'd lean towards a motor rebuild. It's really not that bad. It's worth the peace of mind for sure. My two main sources are Vintage Triumph Supply and I get my conrods fixed and bushings put in, and super good gaskets, PennGrade oil and Hylomar from Franz & Grubb. I use Mile High Crank Shafts in Denver for crank work, a local guy for barrels. Don't currently have a head guy. But I believe I'm going to start using Richter Machining for everything from here on out.
