1967 Pontiac GTO Restoration and Unveiling Video V8 Speed and Resto Shop GTO Full Build - www.v8speedshop.com/contact
This 1967 GTO Restomod frame off restoration started with a car that looked like it had been dragged out of a swamp. This '67 GTO was originally Tyrol Blue with a black vinyl top, a black bucket seat interior, the Pontiac 400 for barrel V8 under the hood, and was coupled to a turbo 400 automatic transmission. The car was built with factory installed air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering. However, over time, this 67 GTO badly rusted and deteriorated and was in need of a total restoration.

18:54 1967 GTO Reveal at Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Show
Once the car arrived at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, our team evaluated the car and disassembled it, and started building the restoration plan. The '67 GTO frame required repairs on the body mounts, and a few other places, and the chassis was restored with Epoxy primer and industrial paint finishes. The V8 crew installed a complete BMR fabrication tubular suspension system, similar to what would be seen on Chevelles, Oldsmobile 442s, Buick GS's, and other GM A-Body platform cars. The suspension system will allow the car to handle and perform better than originally, without sacrificing a comfortable ride.
The 1967 GTO body was media blasted, and the V8 Speed and Resto Shop fabrication shop went to work, replacing the quarter panels, installing a new trunk floor, replacing the cabin floor, repairing the dashboard, building a custom, firewall, replacing rocker panels, and much more. Once our 1967 Pontiac GTO’s rust and damage repairs were completed, it went into our body shop where all the panels were fitted perfectly, and sanded to perfection.
Meanwhile, our mechanical team refreshed the Pontiac 400 V8 and topped it with a FiTech fuel injection system for improved performance and reliability. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop paint department sprayed the GTO in a fresh two-stage Tyrol Blue, creating a show car quality paint finish with clear coat a mile deep.
The V8 Speed & Resto Shop’s Interior department restored the bucket seats, stripping the seats and repairing the frames, installing new seat foam and wrapping them with new reproduction seat covers. The V8 interior shop also refurbished the door panels, the dashboard, headliner, and all the various elements inside the car, and installed a new carpet.
Once the new fresh paint job was wet sanded and buffed to mirror perfection, the interior shop, crew installed a new vinyl top and began reassembling everything inside the car. This included a dashboard filled with gauges from Dakota Digital and a sound system from Custom Autosound, air conditioning from Vintage Air, and reproduction dashboard trim and console details.
The crew installed a Magnaflow stainless exhaust system to make the Pontiac 400 V8 engine, sing, and new wheels and tires were installed. Trim pieces from OPGI or use throughout the car to make everything crisp and new. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team did amazing job restoring his car from start to finish, and you would not recognize it as being the same car and looking at the final product.
But perhaps one of the greatest satisfaction of this restoration was presenting the car to the owners at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago! The team unveiled the car to the owners and their family, and then the MCACN judges took over and scrutinized the car. It was judged in the Street Modified class, scoring 997 out of 1000 possible points! Our team is grateful for the opportunity to restore such a cool 1967 GTO for very nice people, and the Blue Ribbon was appreciated!
Weather it's a '67 GTO like this one, or a Mustang, Chevelle, Charger, or any other Muscle Car, the V8 Speed and Resto Shop team can help!

Wow.... I was 10 yrs old and my dad drove up in his brand new '67 GTO.... blue with black vinyl top. His was a shade darker blue if I remember correctly... although it was close to this color. It had the red striped tires and 400ci w/ auto and hurst shifter. He let me drive it.... sitting on his lap. Lots of memories. That thing would set you way back in the seat when he floored it. My dad was a Border Patrolman stationed in Comstock Texas. Just north of Del Rio Texas back then. Thanks!

Now I just make em drivable and enjoy beating around in em

What a beautiful car. Thank you and the owner for restoring this wonderful car. I'm going to have to look at the pictures of the journey this GTO went through. Were you able to source the proper oval antenna for the car? I have never seen a repop for them. Again thank you for sharing this with us.

You could use that car to check the alignment of a laser it’s so straight! Was not surprised by the score at all. One question - did the owner keep any of the original parts? It hardly matters, just curious. Thanks for sharing, your team should be proud. ~ Chuck

Thanks Charles! As you can imagine, many of the original parts were too far gone to use, but we did re-purpose where we could. They kept the rest.

In Canada, the midsize Pontiac was called Beaumont, rebadge Chevelle with Chevy drivetrains.

Boy, now THAT is a complete frame-off restoration, the way is SHOULD be done. Some have said that in these type complete restorations, the car ends up being as good as new. I can now see where that might be true. I mean if everything that's worn is either reconditioned, sand blasted and repainted or replaced, how could one go wrong?

Beautiful rodstoration. I had a '66 with Tri-Power that didn't stop, turn or start very well. What a wonderful car you created, with all the "charm" of a '67 Goat that acts modern. Very surprised the engine wasn't rebuilt.

First rate restoration and an excellent video production. For my tastes, your resto-mod "recipe" is just the right amount of "mod"... Suspension, disc brakes, fuel injection, vintage aire... but the look is still near perfect period original. Two questions: Did you and owner consider adding a 4L80E overdrive trans, and why was it not included? And, the tire and wheel combo looks great, clearly bigger than stock but perfectly suited to the car. What was your wheel source, size, and tire size?

Tires are BFG Radial T/A 235/60/15 and 255/60/15, with an OPGI Wheel Kit 15x7" and 15x8" PN GT0004. As for the transmission, the 4L80 is a great option, but at the time, the customer chose to stick with the 400. Thanks for the kind words on the car and the production!

Interesting of the trunk lid was the only piece that was saved, And ironically the only piece they don't make any more of? But they still make fenders and floor pans??

I wonder who is better, these guys or Graveyard Carz? It would appear on the surface the Graveyard Carz has more modern and just plain more equipment. And I think Will Scott is probably a better painter.
