    I made my vent box outer panel removable so I could clean it and recoat it. I also coated the entire vent area with bedliner and made a large 1.5 inch drain with a hose so water and dirt can drain out past the fender

    While you have that off, here's a tip for when you want to put your fender badges on without having to remove your fender. After I got my 67 back from paint, I took a small drill bit and put pilot holes into that air pocket thru the existing badge holes in the fender. From the inside, I used a bit big enough to put a 3/8, 5/16? socket thru. Put my badges on, then used those plastic hole plugs from O'Reilly's with RTV to prevent rusting.

    I think it’s great he left the truck to you. It’s the memories and stories that come with these trucks that I appreciate. Plus 71 is my favorite year! I I enjoy helping the next guy out by saving them some time and headaches from what I have learned. Hopefully cleaning the kick panels out will keep them from rising so fast. I appreciate you sharing and for watching. Enjoy that 71!

    An old GMC mechanic told me that 67, 68 vents are larger than 69 to 72 vents. About 1/8” taller and 1/8” wider. I think that he is correct, because I tried putting 70 vents in to our 68. The 70 vents did not cover as much area as the 68 vents. Hello from north east Montana. 10 miles from the Canadian border.

    Well good to hear from some friends from the north! I hadn’t heard any vent differences, but nothing would surprise me with these trucks. I know the replacements are sold as 67-72. I have some 69 and 71 vents I can try in our 68 GMC. I appreciate you reaching out and for watching!

    One of the problems with this cab and wind noise is that there aren't vents to let the air OUT of the cab. This over pressurizes the cab and forces air to leak out through the door seals and wing windows giving you all that leaky wind noise as speed increases. The later trucks came with a small vent on the driver's side door jam, but this is still not enough to properly vent the cab at road speed.

My 72 has 3 vacuum lines coming off of the a/c/ heater control unit and I'm trying to find a diagram or video that talks about how these actuator vacuum lines all connect. can you help?? Is there any tricks to getting a good rust encapsulater in these air buckets? I thought of spraying fluid film in there with a 360 degree wand.

  • @ItsTheChad71

    @ItsTheChad71

    Those wands that come with the rust encapsulator by Eastwood works well. Pulling the visors and rear view mirror off to get the roof line works great.

    You might pull the glove box liner and see if you got some sneaky rust up there. The seal around the antenna line might be rotten allowing water in as well.

    Hey Chad does the cowl mesh cover you mentioned get clogged up with debris? I know with gutters on a house I have an easier time cleaning the gutter out versus cleaning off gutter guards. Also, are you going to the c10 show July 16th in Independence? I entered my 71 K10. I'm going to see if I can win a trophy for truck that needs the most work! ;)

    Awesome James! Can’t win if you don’t try! The screens can get clogged. I had an elm that I used to park under and the little seeds would land on top of it but didn’t get inside. I was able to wash them off and down the fenders. Pine needles and small stuff could still get through if they land vertical.
