Despite the fact that I'm still to be considered as young man, there's a big life ahead of me and the fact that I have not experienced Finnish railway life in the 1960s, there were scenes where my jaw dropped fully open, as these films depicting the era that cannot be repeated are outstanding!

OMG, This is real hardcore! I was a small kid living in Helsinki at the time this was filmed, and I still remember the steam trains running from the main station through the city and suburbs. I couldn´t imagine that someone from abroad one day publishes a high quality color video from those days!👏

8:56 a Finnish round-nose heavy (120 ton) bogie diesel-electric locomotive class Hr12 number 2215, loco nr. 764 is a local train engine, class Pr1. 10:09: heavy Finnish freight engine Mikado (2-8-2), class Tr1. 10:43: Finnish express 4-6-0 coal-burning engine class Hv2 nr. 586 (built by German Schwartzkopff in Berlin 1919), is probably backing from Pasila engine depot for local train to Riihimäki junction. 10:52: Finnish rapid express ("Kiitojuna") diesel-motor coach class Dm4 (from 1950's). After this Pr1 and local train consisting 2-axle wooden coaches. 11:09: diesel shunting engine. 11:24: an American-made (originally 0-6-0) and rebuilt by Finns: class Vr5 (0-6-2) shunter (called "Kalkkuna" or "Turkey"). Engine 792 is Finnish-built 0-6-0 shunter, class Vr1 ("Kana" or "Hen"), with spark-arresting chimney. Engine 2224 is a Hr12 ("Huru") too, with its steely and sturdy safety nose. Behind its door is an entry to drivers cab. Huru's engine is a 16 cyl. V-16, German 1900 hp MAN, with turbocharger. Huru's bogies are same as Swiss electric Ae6/6 has, built by licence. 12:12: Blue Finnish-made railcar train, class Dm7, and trailer coach with luggage compartment, class EFiab (both made with licence from Swedish railcar builder H. Carlsson from Umeå). Backing goods loco Tr1 1052 is built in Tampere. It was called as "Risto", because Finnish president was Mr. Risto Ryti, when the first Tr1 was completed in 1940. 12:53 comes Finnish express engine (4-6-2) Hr1, called "Ukko-Pekka" ("Old man Peter"). First Hr1 came 1937 and last 1957 (22 engines). Loco 592 is a Schwartzkopff - made express engine too.

beautiful, the Dutch trains at the start are interesting, from around the time I was born. Definitively from before 1967, as the cars in Stockholm drive still on the left. Finland had still some steam left then, when was the finale for steam there?

@@milaal8444 Ok, I got that wrong, but the images of the station of Utrecht are surely made before 1970, as there is no modern NS logo on the locomotives which was then implemented and added to all stock in a really short timespan. Also the new grey and yellow house style started to show up, although this would take a much longer time to take over.

The first part with the Holland-Skandinavien Express is much older. The train was routed over the Gedser-Grossenbrode ferry line (sign in the very beginning + at 1:30 + subsequent ferry crossing), which was closed down in favor of the much shorter Rødby-Puttgarten line (the Fugleflugtslinje/Vogelfluglinie ~'Bird's flight line') in 1963

  • @Tom-Lahaye

@@runeodin7237 That probably puts the whole video in this timeframe, as this all was from a single journey a group of railway enthusiasts made to Scandinavia, the depot visits and train rides with groups of enthusiasts roaming around make this clear. Another small detail was the blue Dutch coach with the oval toilet window in the Holland-Skandinavien Express, these carriages were withdrawn between 1967 and 1970, these were of a small contigent of 27 coaches built for international traffic between 1928 and 1931. Only one survives today.
