    The Indian speaker Nalini Nair is my aunt. She pursued her higher education from America. She has always been a source of inspiration. She was modern in thinking despite of invariably being clad in a Saree. She is a retired Professor now. She is happily settled in the US with her children. I was always carried away by her style of conversing in English. It was so articulate. The Pakistani lady is also settled in the US. She was holding a very high position in the UN.

In Bharat we didn't had a concept of god until islam and Christianity entered our motherland Nor did we had a concept of religion just spirituality. The god part is only for the one who wants to experience something more by sheer believe or faith it is called bhakti yoga. I maybe be generalizing but, by George, talking about religion when there are so many other problems in that era that needed to be solved were overlooked. That's why they are stuck in their paradoxical consciousness of what to choose or not.

    This is an extremely delicate topic, but these 4 debaters made it all the more interesting. I watched it whole with a smile. I loved the frankness and yet a sense of devotion of Rafia. Alice was a bit parochial, and it may be ascertained to her society and the upbringing (not saying in a demeaning sense). John and Nalini are my favourites. There open-mindedness, ability to question one's religion and exercising this liberty in a constructive way had me in there awe. And Nalini pointed it out right: Hinduism was never a religion. People around India were free to practice what they believe in. Shankracharya brought it all under one umbrella as one philosophy; a philosophy of life. Teenagers with such maturity and insight talking about their religion made for a wonderful watch.

    I agree with you completely.Alice didn’t have a sound argument in search for the truth, which was understandable but, her demeaning attitude for other religions didn’t sit well. Malini and Johnny well articulated their questions and answers while Rafia was caught in the middle of going against devotion.

    Hahahahahahahhaha That BS again "Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life" Hinduism My foot Hinduism is a RELIGION Ancient hindus used to worship idols and other BS They were religious

  • @que_93

    @que_93

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@fearyflamingo2660 Your laughter and your language says so much about your thoughts, and what has been fed to you in the name of religion. Hindus have worshiped idols even before "Hinduism" was formed by Shankracharya. Every region followed its own customs and traditions, which can still be seen today. If you do not do idol worship, how does it become wrong for others? And why should it? Should they need someone else's approval? What for? In your religion, it will all be counted as blasphemous. Such is the sense of superiority fed to you; such hardline attitude. I can see how your religion has been taught to you, and how tolerant you can be to others who do not identify like yourself. There are such entities in every religion. I admit that. But you said Hinduism is a religion. I must knowledge you that we do not follow one God; we do not follow one book; nothing is a commandment for us that it must be followed; we pray or don't, it is up to us; go to temple or not, it is up to us; explore our options (again, nothing is a binding commandment for us); Karma and Dharma have originated from Hinduism; non-traditional sexual orientations are not criminal as per Hinduism; there is no set of laws "governing" us, at all. I will give you another major point as to why Hinduism is not a religion. Even the name "Hinduism" isn't a binding tag for "Hindus", and is not an indigenous noun, either. Like all things and entities that there are which needs to be tagged to be identified, we have the tag "Hindu." "The other BS" that we pray: well, cows feeds us, nourishes us-- just like our mothers do, and just as we see our mothers as a God, so have we revered cows, too. Even this earth we say as "Mother Earth", or "Goddess Earth". It is an expression of our reverence. Most Hindu kids revered their parents as God, and sometimes even above the Gods that they pray(this is too feeble to be seen today); it is Hindu tradition to refer our teachers and gurus as Gods; the tag is an embodiment of this feeling. And, just to point it out, do you see the uniformity in the practices of other religions all over the world. It is because that is the way it "should be," and that they have been spread in a controlled fashion. But Hindus pray different Gods in different locations, within India. And mind you: I have a Gita, Bible, Quran, copies of other religion's holy books in our prayer room-- laid on the same shelf next to each other. If you do that, it will be blasphemous, and imagine the public's reaction. Hinduism is flexible enough to evolve with time. Not many others can say the same, sadly. And remember, hatred is never born; it is always fed. Every religion has been diluted, corrupted, by the means some fair or unfair means, and Hinduism hasn't been spared either. It is not in the same crude form like it was in the beginning. None of the religions are! It has long been a tool for conflicts, politics, and what not. But amidst the uncountable things that are dividing us, we must look for commonalities to identify with each other. There are far bigger problems than religion. I would not have written this, but I felt I need to answer. Listen to what Rafia has said so beautifully, and I respect her so much. You must too, learn to respect something which you do not agree with. And I will end with this: Hinduism allows us to explore and question; it is a sin in most.

    @Niku Singh what you referring to is the result of politics. Organize religions always had been used as a tool for the political agenda. as far as I know Islam had always been spread thru the sword. As an idea, it never was well equipped. Hinduism as an idea has no worries in that aspect. What you should actually be fearful of is not the islamic people, but the jihadi mindset aka extremism. And extremism is always bad for any community in any way. To counter it you don't need guns but education. Christianity is the best example of this. It was the most radicalized religion in the past but as society had gotten educated, it has mellowed out. I believe the same thing will happen once people can differentiate between politics and faith. Have a good day!!

    @@anthonyaguirre1498 Book!!! Cann't he/she/it auto put all this things in our mind if he is the almighty.....how can you ignore infinite possibities for just one which you aren't confirm about? That's why Hinduism tried to seek not believe and learn more and more to get closer to god if he/she/it exists and to universe and it's existence if god doesn't exist.

    @@hsuyaarchives2526 if he put things on our mind then that would be tyrannical and not love. Love is freely choosing. For you it may be force but that is wrong. And yeah seek and you'll find the truth. I seeked and I became born again, I have found truth.

    @@anthonyaguirre1498 but what's so special in a book . Don't treat yourself soo special that only for humans god created books and what about other creatures. Actually human is over estimating itself but indeed is not a grain of sand in this cosmos. Books specially for humans is a gimmick!!! Is sun or gravitation or electromagnetism or food or life any natural law specific for human then why so a book!!!!!A fear mongering about a thing you don't know fully is absurdity and nothing.....

    @@anthonyaguirre1498 but as you think you are born again your seeking stopped... Found the ultimate truth is itself a contradiction to continuous seeking...... If you found the truth then I suppose you are first human to know what's weight of universe and how long it exist, what is time and space, answers to quantum mechanics and all the truths of universe....... But you or any of your book knows none but continuous human seeking(research) is disclosing it .Isn't it the proof that we don't and cann't know truth to everything by believing on a book and not seeking our whole life.......
