My father worked at MGM as a tailor during that Era and I still remember when he brought the record home and we played it on the Grundig stereo we had. I've never forgotten how that music made me feel

Ben Hur is forever my favorite movie; my father took me to see it as a child and I have always cherished it.

I always breakdown in the scene when Esther is at the Valleys of the Lepers and Judah's mother asks her, "Is Judah well? Is he happy". 😭

Absolutely, I get a lump in my throat on that part, also when Judah lifts his dying sister into his arms. At the very end, when Judah ascends the stairs to embrace his healed and restored mother and sister, along with the glorious accompanying music, I always start weeping tears of joy, just so moved by the power and majesty of the epic I've just witnessed. My favorite movie of all time, without a doubt. It just happend to be right at the beginning on the TV at an important stage of my life, at a time when I needed the message it contains. It has also helped me through some real struggles, and I seem to get something different out of it each time. My wife bought me a nice print of the "The Creation of Adam" portion of the Sistine Chapel, shown in the opening credits for our bedroom wall.

@@mikem6251 Mike, Ben Hur is a great story, but a story it is. The Christ story just that, most likely invented by the Romans to counter the messianic aspirations of the Jews. It is impossible to believe the Judeo-Christian story of creation and Ben Hur should be appreciated for the art it is.

With all due respect, it is true that the Ben Hur story/character is fiction, and taken from a novel by Lew Wallace, but the Christian faith is real, and Christ was factually the Messiah, Son of God, and Redeemer of the human race from the sin that had beset it since the fall of Adam and Eve. God has offered us, as a free gift, redemption for our sins through Christ, God Himself made incarnate in human form, and it is up to us to accept and live accordingly. Unfortunately, too many people don't.

You could FEEL the love from the Orchestra as they performed The GREATEST MASTERPIECE of All time!

I have never gotten tired of watching the movie Ben Hur.

One of the greatest movie moments of all time... Christ rises to face a hardened Roman legionnaire, the man is instantly convicted, confused, and stunned that any unarmed man could command such respect by a look. Turns away and then turns back for an instant, still unbelieving, confused by the power he has just witnessed. The director, the script, the actor playing the soldier brought together a moment in movie history I will never forget!

The actor that played the soldier, was not an actor by trade . William Wyler, just found him around set. Thought he looked the part. Great direction.

I'm not a religious person but have to admit that scene floors me every time.

Miklós Rózsa with Ben-Hur composed one of the finest most beautiful music scores for the screen.. So well done here!

..hearing this score, l swear l could hear the mighty Roman Legions approaching our backyard.. That was my impression as a 10- year old when I first saw the movie BenHur..6 decades ago. Ben Hur meeting Jesus Christ gave me an everlasting impression that we will All meet Jesus Christ 🙏 at the end of our lives to give an accounting.. hopefully, the same music will be playing as we meet Him..

My dads (86 yrs old) favourite movie...my most intense remembering is when i was 12 yrs old (in 1976) and watch BEN HUR with him at the evening in the biggest Cinema in our town...i love you dad.

This is the kind of epic music that influenced the return of symphonic music in John William's Star Wars and Superman. Rozsa's Roman march and the Roman galley score are also outstanding. Even after so many years, the scene of Ben Hur forced to hide from his leprous mother and sister yet hear them asked Esther how he is still chokes me up.

BEN HUR: MAY I ADD THAT THE MUSICAL SCORE IS ABSOLUTELY EXQUISITE + PRECIOUS!!! IT SENDS SHIVERS THROUGH ME. TQ IMMENSELY!!! ❤❤❤

jslasher1 The copyright claim probably was for only one or two of the themes performed, which caused the whole video to be banned. For that reason alone it is better to post the numbers separately. I myself had that problem before with a video that at some point contained the Star Wars theme, which I found to be a big no-no.

Too many great film to scores to say this one is unsurpassed. Yes, it's truly excellent, but so are many of Maurice Jarre's compositions for David Lean, Elmer Bernstein's Great Escape and several of John Williams' themes to name but a few . Some film scores are today's classics IMHO.

Timeless. A monumental achievement, over three hours of superb music. It should be listened complete. Among the longest film scores ever composed.

I always cry myself when I listen to this beautiful music. Miklós Rózsa was Hungarian, although he composed in Los Angeles for most of his life and remained Hungarian until the end of his life. I am Hungarian too. I am very proud of Miklós Rózsa.

The music tune takes us through history and to the actual scenes in the mind, I saw the film 100 times and talks about love, leadership and sacrifice.

An unforgettable score. I love Rosza's compositions. For me, Ben-Hur, and El Cid are his best scores and are among the best in the history of the cinema.

Loved how the Ben-Hur storyline wrapped around The Tale of the Christ. Through strange twists of Fate...

Ben Hur and El Cid-two of the maestro's masterpieces from the later period of his career!

As the years go on, I believe we have lost all those involved with Ben-Hur. They made a film of majesty that will live forever! RIP to Haya Harareet (2021) and all of them!!

What can be said about the greatest movie ever made, and music theme thank you all astonishing, amazing thank you Mr Rozsa.

Loving the music already, this brought me to tears, seeing the orchestra so passionate about this music from the greatest film ever made.

+FriendofRamblinJack One of the interesting things about what you write is that Rozsa, who wrote some of the most beautiful Christian-themed music in Hollywood history, was not a Christian, but a Jew. In fact, when one looks at the history of ancient Roman times---as told through Hollywood eyes, much of the beautiful Christian music was written by great Jewish composers. Rozsa wrote "Ben-Hur" and "Quo Vadis." Alfred Newman wrote "The Robe" and three very non-Roman, but related Christian themed films, "The Egyptian" (with another Jewish composer, Bernard Herrmann), "A Man Called Peter" and "The Song of Bernadette." Franz Waxman, who was beaten on a Berlin street for being Jewish, escaped from Naziism to write the scores for "The Silver Chalice" and the beautiful"The Nun's Story." I don't know if these men were particularly observant in the Jewish faith, but they were forgiving in their professionalism, considering the way Christians have often treated Jewish people.

I am a child of the mid 50s, sir, so I am very aware of classics in all forms, Hollywood, composers, etc. I've seen many times all the pictures you stated, my favourite being Ben Hur. Having said that, one could also reply, in regards to your last statement, that Christian American Military Armed Forces could still harbor a grudge against the Israeli people and government for the deliberate attack causing the death of many sailors aboard the USS LIBERTY. HOWEVER, being a follower of Jesus Christ and a devout born-again Bible-adherent Christian, we love Israel and we stand with Israel as God Almighty YHWH commanded us, we forgive and we ask forgiveness. Having said all that, I was just telling my husband last night watching THE ROBE again for the umpeenth time, "Honey, look at how much beautiful music ever composed came from our Jewish brothers and sisters!" A masterpiece in all his forms. This is Ben-Hur...

The parade of the chariots is one of the most spectacular pieces of music composed for film. Awe inspiring.

As a young lad of about ten my Mum and Dad took me to Leicester Square when the film premiered. It had a lasting effect on me and I still consider it one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen.

It's the greatest movie ever to bring back a magnificent story in your head just by listening to music! !!

Saw this film around 1960 but never really appreciate the musical score involved cause we were young. Now we realized the beauty of this epic version. Simply love it.

NO music exist from Roman times. However, Miklós Rózsa meticulous research and his musical genius left us this unique masterpiece.

Well I have never heard this piece player live , and they did it magnificently, to say is was Awesome is a gross understatement. wow!

When i was 10 or twelve years old ( mid 70s) Ben Hur was showing in the biggest cinema in our town (you know, one of the big Theatres with two balkony etc, from the 50s or so) and because its my dads favourite movie we going there to see the movie. It was in the evening, incl intermission ...i never forget that evening in my life. Fun fact: Especially for to see this movie again with my Dad on Eastern this year i bought a 65 " flat screen 4 K TV. I love you dad.

Your story is lovely. To have seen (and listened to) the roadshow print of Ben-Hur is a memory you'll keep until your last day. Its unique image quality was achieved by the amazingly sharp MGM Camera 65, which had an enormous size and was equivalent to the SuperPanavision 70mm format popular during the Sixties. The Camera 65 tested successfully on MGMs 'Raintree County' (1957), and therefore the studio decided to use it for Ben-Hur. Such a phenomenal sharpness is best appreciated in the 50th Anniversary Blu-ray Edition (in the Valley of the Lepers first scene diminutive lizards are clearly seen running on the rocks, downwards right). It's worthwhile to check the only available (I believe) image of MGMs Camera 65 on IMDb, took by my mother while on location in Rome. She was an extra, one of the posh Roman ladies seated beside Pilate when Ben-Hur is crowned ''as their God''.

I cry every time I hear the Judah-Esther love theme.

Chuck is my favourite actor ever and of course Ben Hur stands alone... The soundtrack just absolutely kills me every time i listen to it, it just eats away at you !!!!

What a joy and a treat it must be for an orchestra to play this enthralling music! They all seem to live this music with their soul and body.

Every single orchestra member playing with passion! Superb presentation!

I love every note of this masterpiece by Rozsa, especially the March of the Charioteers. Such a grand, commanding piece-you can almost see the horses in formation marching around the Arena. Just a sidenote: in the movie during the race, notice there's no musical soundtrack. Just the cheers of the audience, horses' hooves and chariots. Soundtrack would've distracted from the impact and intensity. Brilliant, superb direction. Deserved all 10 Oscars.

Watched it in it’s entirety for the first time on Good Friday - stunning piece of cinematography - the scene ‘a mother’s love’ when Miriam and Tirzah ask Esther to tell Judah they are dead and the accompanying score just blew me away. They will never make films like this again.

Those beautiful white horses were Sagya Arabians, a special kind of Arabian, a Hungarian breed.

What a great music and what a great orchestra . Well done the musicians you scratch it . For me 10 out of 10 .

John Williams is undeniably the god of film music. Yet this musical work of this movie is beyond this world.

I love the conductor's enthusiasm. Great performance!

Ben Hur greatest movie ever made. I’ve seen it over thousand times I am 73. Charlton Heston is the greatest actor of all times. All of his movies are magnificent. My father took us to the Paramount theater in downtown Brooklyn to see the Ten Commandments. What about Planet of the Apes another great movie. Saw that one in the theater. I never get tired of watching Charlton Heston. His voice, his command of the picture he was gorgeous. Check out all of his movies. RIP Mr. Heston you were one of a kind!!!!!
