1958 Gibson Les Paul Standard played by Joey Landreth
Музыка
cartervintage.com/collections...
Joey plugged in this incredibly clean 1958 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop and immediately the pure PAF tone started pouring from the amp. This guitar has ver minor checking, all original finish and hardware. There are many burst era Les Paul that stand above the rest, this is one of them!
We plugged this guitar into a 1952 Fender Deluxe www.cartervintage.com/amps/fen...
We mic'd the amp with a Cascade Fat Head and the room with a MV88 mic by Shure. No eq'ing was done in post, we wanted it to sound like you were sitting in the room hearing this for yourself. Listen with high quality headphones for the full effect!

:-) Funny thing is, that Joey actually is a big pedal nerd...
The tone is killer. As close to perfect in my mind. Slight breakup yet mostly clean and super dynamic.
Extremely tasty and subtle playing. Such a welcome contrast from the thousands of "G D A - shaking the neck while the chord rings" guitar demos on YT.

Yeah the neck shake has me completely puzzled,i have just picked up the guitar after a 25 year layoff and the bullshit I'm seeing and hearing is mind boggling.

I was thinking the same thing. Lol . Why all the trying to shake the neck thing? It just looks dumb. This guy here is awesome 👌

The implication here seems to be that the Les Paul doesn't have subtleties of its own to show when playing subtle music. Suffice to say that I disagree on an astronomical scale.

Probably the greatest Les Paul tone of all time came from a certain namesake of yours on "Just Got Back From Baby's", 1971 - through a Fender amp, just like here. Go check out how of much of a Nugentian stadium rocker that was, if you have to.

"Gibbons," between that gorgeous Fiddy-eight, actual music being played, the little tweed Fender, and that guy's hands, everything you need to know about vintage Lesters and PAF's is right there. Right, there. The Reverend would heartily approve of this demo, I have no doubt. To characterize this as "(a) really weak demo" is to out yourself as having cloth ears. Punch play at 2:15. Take notes. Get back to us when you get it.
Somebody here questioning whether it's a good demo of this guitar and amp. Open your ears and soak it up. This is as good as it gets. Breath taking.

I would love to sit in that seat and play that guitar through that amp. What a joy.
I just found this treasure. My Daddy went to heaven about a month ago. I so wish I could show him this jewel. Maybe somehow I will learn how to play " How great thou art" on his '58 before I see him again. ❤❤❤

Wow, such an epic tone!! This is the closest thing I've heard to tonal perfection in a long time - the guitar, amp, Joey's playing, the audio quality...it's all right there. Awesome job!! If I ever win the lottery, I'm catching the next flight to Nashville!! Joey's reaction at 3:21 says it all...pretty sure he's thinking, "If only I had $135K lying around..."

Joey sounds like this everytime he plays his own rig. The amp he is playing on is nothing special. And he gets the same tone out of his own Les Paul. Its how he plays. He is a musical genius.
10 seconds in and I'm transported to a guitar store somewhere in the late 50's. Perfect tone. The PAF sound.
that is how you demo a fine vintage guitar

You can play anything on anything. You do realise Les Paul was a jazz player... Playing Les Paul's? They were originally designed for Jazz! I don't think you would find many people playing metal on a 58/59/60... Apart from Kirk Hammett! All the best and Merry Christmas!

Gibbons the les pauls were referred to as fretless wonders fir there ease at doing fast runs up and down the neck, they sucked for rock the first few production yrs, jimmy page's #2, was only a keeper for him after a refret they suck for bends, and sales tanked, thus they were discontinued in late '60,rockets in mid sixties loved only after most got a refret, uffda

So few Les Paul' demo's without ridiculous distortion. Thanks for letting us actually hear what the guitar sounds like. It sounds fantastic. Well done.
2:54 til the end. That is what classic PAF tone is all about to me. Amazing clarity with subtle overtones and bloom. Echoes of ZZ Top's first album, Beano, live cream, At Fillmore East, etc. Thank you for the outstanding video. Made my morning.

Wow! I just wanted to listen to fine vintage instruments and now I'm sitting here in tears weeping my heart out! You are a master Joey!
I’ve been listening to Joey since they debuted their first album and my gf and I saw them live at a restaurant in a Saskatchewan town of 40 people. I believe he’s got the best tone of any guitarist I’ve ever heard, and between his playing and his voice… I’m glad more people are getting to enjoy him. There is literally no mood his music doesn’t suit.

I have recently completed a transcription of what Joey is playing here. It is available for free and a link to it can be found by searching KZread for 'Joey Landreth inspired improvisation'. Just as an update on my original comment I have also recently posted a free transcription of the 1955 Stratocaster demo Joey did at the same time as this one. Thank you for posting all of these wonderful clips of Joey and your amazing guitars!

Thanks for the comment John. Funny you should mention the other demos as I did work out a couple of others at the same time I did this one. The 1955 Strat demo I worked out because it has some amazing fretting behind the slide ideas and I also transcribed the 1961 SG demo. I might look into posting a link to those soon as well.

Matthew Mikkelsen So if you sell one of these can you just about take the rest of the year off!??
Joey Landreth along with JD Simo and Matt Schofield are 3 of my favourites players nowadays. Taste tone touch and timing in spades.
At last, someone demonstrating the guitar and its tonal abilities .Not someone showing off with maximum distortion showing us nothing of the guitars' qualities. 'tis in my humble opinion the perfect tone. Thank you very much.

Oh so you saw Greg Crotch make a fool of himself With constant “hey look at me I’m amazing” nonstop noodling with max distortion
Thank you Carter Vintage and Joey Landreth. Inspiring performance. Glorious instruments (guitar +amp)!
"How great I am" was the first melody. Such an Iconic guitar and a very nice sample of great talent. Cheers
So good! The playing was more than stellar and this is such a great demo of what PAF's are all about. I wish I could afford the guitar but thank you Carter Vintage for introducing me to Joey Landreth and for the great demo’s.
Joey's playing stunning and so clean and understated! Kudos to the video and sound crew as well. Excellent production.
Thank you for these and many others. Just a killer demo.
I come back to this video at least once every other week. This skill, tone, and audio capture demonstrated here is just fantastic. The guitar and amp should have been sold as a mandatory set.
Saw Joey live at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC last Friday night...I was in the front row, pretty much directly in front of his amps...a Deluxe and a Two Rock...such an amazing tone and a fantastic player. His whole band is great too! They put out a lot of sound for a 3 piece!
I keep coming back to this video. Which is not something you can say about many KZread guitar demonstrations… Such amazing and inspiring playing. Looove the gospel vibe 🙌.
Joey is just phenomenal, and the fact that he always play open tuning, adds difficulties but a very different outcome in terms of sound, intonation and sustain. Really one of today's masters. Thanks for the video and the amazing goldie.
What an incredibly great sounding guitar and amp rig, and what a great use of the two pieces! That's about as down-to-earth, organic as good guitar playing gets, and very appropriate for these instruments!! Wow.
That was the way to demo an old guitar, tasty playing through a good sounding amp without a word being uttered. The guitar said everything that I needed to hear! Those PU's were darn near perfect - very clear and balanced and sounded great through that Tweed. Yep, very cool!
Cool angelic tones and fantastic touch.....
This sends shivers down my spine, hands down best guitar demo on KZread! Great emotional and musical playing, absolutely nailed it
Oh lovely tone.. amazing dude
When he digs in on the bridge pu it just was heaven. Great demo.
major solos are so amazing they touch my heart :)
Remarkable playing. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, I wasn't expecting that. That was freaking awesome!!
Absolutely phenomenal
Perfect ,plug in and go. What a beauteous set up.
I keep coming back to this one.
this is the best guitar playing I've heard on here- very soulful. I will hope to learn this someday. thank you
Beautiful touch and chops...
Absolutely one of the best sounds my ears have ever heard.
Wow.... phenomenal touch here.
great great sound ....his touch is amazing
Boy can certainly play! Nice tone man!
Very, very nice in every aspect!
Carter VIntage Guitars is the first place I ever set foot in Nashville, what a mind blowing introduction. No big surprise to see someone like Joey Landreth hanging out.
Wow what a player. Perfect demo.
Thank You Carter Vintage Guitars!
Now THAT is tasteful playing and tone!
Beautiful playing
OMG!!! Great demo.
How Great the sound and player!
Incredible instrument & playing.👌
There's some great young guitar talent out there and this gentleman is no exception. 👍
Absolutely beautiful
I love this tone.
Such a unique sound.
You have to appreciate and admire the players who aren’t afraid to look for new notes, new phrasings, new runs. Players who will gladly sacrifice one or two wrong notes in order to hit the several good ones that can come in new ways as a result. Great job.
What a fine guitar being played by a true musician!
I regularly blast this with a nice set of speakers. It shakes the room the same way it probably did that day.

I don't know who this guy is, but I love to hear him play. 3rd time I've heard him demo and he has great feel with his playing. Bravo!
man, that bridge tone is to die for
Found myself singing along, didn’t know the words, it didn’t matter. So enjoyable.
Joey Landreth sounds great on every guitar and amp that I’ve heard so far. His taste, tone and feel is ridiculous.
Beautiful.
beautiful, brilliant.
just beautiful
Nice sounding guitar, nice playing too.👍👍
Great sound and playing and as with all Les Pauls they sound the best with both pickups on.
Ahhh yes...the video that started my Joey Landreth obsession. Thanks for popping back up on my recommended feed.
those first 3 seconds = goosebumps..... that tone, man
Those Guitars just are so musical 😎👍🏼
Oh.....hello!....I could listen to this all day! 👏🏻
A little bit of restraint...how refreshing ..and tasty
It sounds beautiful man
This frazing is insane
Flat out fine playing and video.
Stopped at Carter weekend before the Nashville tornado... great place! Only time I've ever seen one in person.
Just a really beautiful tone!... Nothing like a 50's Les Paul straight to the amp!...
That room sounds incredible
Sounds great!!!
Man i love when the neck pickup sounds as bright as a bridge pickup usually does! No muddyness on this one!
Great Sound!
Beautiful playing young man.......there is hope for world. ....you....
Great playing
What Tyler Vannatta said below. Speechless...just speechless.
