The 1957 Chevrolet is a car that was introduced by Chevrolet in September 1956 for the 1957 model year. It was available in three series models: the upscale Bel Air, the mid-range Two-Ten, and the One-Fifty. A two-door station wagon, the Nomad, was produced as a Bel Air model. An upscale trim option called the Delray was available for Two-Ten 2-door sedans.
A 409 cu in (6.7 L) version was Chevrolet's top regular production engine from 1961 to 1965, with a choice of single or 2X4-barrel Rochester carburetors. Bore x stroke were both up from the 348 cu in (5.7 L) to 4.31 in × 3.5 in (109.5 mm × 88.9 mm). On December 17, 1960, the 409 engine was announced along with the Impala SS (Super Sport) model. The initial version of the engine produced 360 hp (268 kW) with a single 4-barrel Carter AFB carburetor. The same engine was upped to 380 hp (283 kW) in 1962. A 409 hp (305 kW) version of this engine was also available, developing 1 hp per cubic inch with a dual four-barrel aluminium intake manifold and two Carter AFB carburetors. It had a forged steel crankshaft.[14] This dual-quad version was immortalized in the Beach Boys song titled "409".
In the 1963 model year, output reached 425 bhp (431 PS; 317 kW) @ 6000 rpm and 425 lb⋅ft (576 N⋅m) @ 4200 rpm of torque with the Rochester 2X4-barrel carburetor setup, a compression ratio of 11:1 and a solid lifter camshaft.[15] The engine was available through mid-1965, when it was replaced by the 396 cu in (6.5 L) 375 hp (280 kW) Mark IV big-block engine. In addition, a 340 hp (254 kW) version of the 409 engine was available from 1963 to 1965, with a single 4-barrel cast iron intake mounting a Rochester 4GC square-bore carburetor, and a hydraulic-lifter camshaft.
The 265 cu in (4.3 L) V8 engine was bored out to 3.875 in (98.43 mm) in 1957, giving it a 283 cu in (4.6 L) displacement. The first 283 motors used the stock 265 blocks. However, the overbore to these blocks resulted in thin cylinder walls. Future 283 blocks were cast to accept the 3.875 bore. Five different versions between 188 hp (140 kW) and 283 hp (211 kW) were available, depending on whether a single carb, twin carbs, or fuel injection was used.
Horsepower was up a bit each year for 1958, 1959, and 1960. The 1957 Rochester Ramjet mechanical fuel injection version produced an even one hp per one cu in (283 hp (211 kW), an impressive feat at the time. This was the second U.S.-built production V8 to produce one horsepower per cubic inch, after the 1956 Chrysler 300B.[19]

Cool little build. I haven't built/ owned a model in decades but this year I made the mistake of picking up a dozen old Johan kits at a swap meet. And haven't stopped buying since now have around 100 kits. Not this kit yet but in 1 of my lot buys I acquired the 56 hdtp 78 release. Someone started it painted the body with a brush. I've striped it and made a candy apple gasser it's about finished. So now I'm doing a diorama lol like I'm not busy enough to start building again lol smh

Haven't seen the Cobra 🐍 build yet when I seen this I had to jump over it and check out the Pepper Shaker. This is already on my list but now that I've seen the build at least 2 are on the list. By looking threw the comments this kit has some history. Looks like it's been released at least once every decade since the 60's. I was heavily into modeling in the 60's, 70's, and part of the 80's and can't believe I don't remember it. I am aware of the last release, I was gonna get it until I saw this one. BTW the shifter looks like a Tiki God statue.

The black on the fin inset is black flocking and the interior is flocked in black and green. I'm now 71 and still have that model. First and only car I entered in a contest and took home first place. Just asking? Have you ever had any issues with spraying other paint over "Rust-Oleum" primers? Was asking because I was about to use it, under a Tamiya color? Or even Testors? Didn't want to have to put the body in the "stripper" solution and have to re-spray it... Your thoughts?

I don't try to two tone Rustoleums or Krylons over each other once dry, they usually react poorly. I have shot most other sprays over them in LIGHT coats and have not had issues, but always test first, I can't vouch for every combination or shop circumstances.

But mine does not set up that rapidly. ANY ANSWER WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I Retired at the End of 2020 and since I am a Single Man and my Son's are both grown and doing very well with families of their own. I decided to get back into modeling that I enjoyed sooo much as a Young Man. The ONLY thing we had back then to the Model Laymen was Testors Glue which took quiet a while to Dry as you know.
