Thanks for explaining this. I always wondered how that shift pattern worked. Great info!

Final drive oil level is the upper square plug. The lower ones you checked are the drain plugs.

Good info. When I saw the "DN" and the "UP" on your first video, I didn't have a clue on what those represented. Thanks, for sharing that little bit of information.

I had an 850 and loved it. The detent for that middle tier of gears (1st & 2nd) gets pretty worn after 6 decades and pretty hard to feel. When baling hay I would need to find 1st gear quickly so I bought a clever device (sold by Red Rock Mfg) that bolted to the trans top cover. It had a little flap that you could fold down so it fit under the shifter at the 1st/2nd tier, basically locking out 4th/5th. When not needed you could fold it out so all 3 tiers are available. The top tier is quite handy, push the knob forward to go forward (in 3rd gear) and pull the knob back to go back.

Nicely done as usual.

Run a 92 or 93 octane petro in this unit. It has the additives in the fuel to clean the engine. Tractor sits along time.. condensation and rust inside will start. Later.

Boy, you have a great tractor there,, it shows pride of ownership. I m not familiar with the overhead valves do they use solid lifters? Thanks for the serial number decoding. The 3 vertical positions of the shifter is a strange one, but gives you a nice range of speed control. It s nice and I wish I owned it. Thanks from Georgian Bay.

Thanks Don. Yes, I'm pretty sure these use solid lifters. The shift pattern is definitely odd. Although it works just fine, I don't care for it. It isn't intuitive like the standard H patterns. But, the tractor itself is kind of an oddball .... so the odd gear shift sort of suits it.
