Gorgeous, it has incredible fit and finish. This is a first class lead sled. They started with a 28,000 mile, original car with a clean Texas body. Same owner for 25 years. Professionally restored by Randy Church, a chop top specialist. We have a before picture and restoration pictures.
EXTERIOR: Dam this one looks good. Right away the quality is obvious. Talk about laser straight, there isn't a dimple or a wave. The gaps are incredibly precise too. Very tastefully customized and it's all metal. Obviously the top was chopped. The corners were rounded on the hood, doors and trunk. All emblems and most of the trim was removed and filled. Shaved door handles and trunk lock, they open remotely. The fuel door was leaded in, antenna was frenched. Jaguar headlights were frenched, custom frenched front turn signals. Custom scallops were sculpted in the hood. The fender skirts are flush mounted and the gap is impressive. The color is gorgeous. Painted with premium Glasurit products. It has 5 coats of color and 3 coats of clear blocked and polished like glass. We have paint codes and specific instructions how the car was painted which makes future touch up much easier. V-butt windshield and smoked glass. It's dressed up with dummy spotlights, Lake pipes and Cadillac Sombrero hubcaps. It is rolling on radial white wall tires. The original grill and chrome are real nice. Jambs are painted slick.
INTERIOR: Professionally done custom interior by Scott's upholstery. All new matching pleated upholstery on the seats, door panels and headliner. The carpet was custom made. The inside metal with painted as nice as the outside. It has a mostly original dash in beautiful condition. The gauges, knobs, steering are original in beautiful shape. It still uses the push button starter! A custom lower dash was made for the modern stereo, a/c vents and door openers. Inside the glove box are the controls for the air ride. The stereo system includes 4 round speakers and four 6x9 speakers. It was professionally rewired by Sachise Rod Shop.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Only 500 miles on a GM crate ZZ-4 350. It has a polished aluminum intake with a dual feed Holley carb that has an electric choke and HEI ignition system. The front of the motor has modern alternator, serpentine belt and pulley system. It has a modern heat and air conditioning system. An oversized radiator with a shroud and stainless steel upper hose keeps it running cool. The engine bay is clean metal painted satin black. The real unique attention getter is the copper plated set of finned valve covers, air cleaner and breathers.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Opens with a release under the bumper. It has been boxed and upholstered. The 2 stereo amplifiers are on display. The fuel filler is relocated inside the trunk.
UNDERSIDE: Stock frame, steering and suspension. There are a few upgrades including Ride Tech air ride. In front it has adjustable air bags replacing the springs, the shocks are new. In back it has new leaf springs with lowering blocks, new shocks and also adjustable air bags. It also has tubular rear control arms. Bottom of the motor still looks spotless, it has a high torque starter and a chrome flywheel cover. The trans is a fresh 700R-4 overdrive automatic with an external oil cooler. It has a new Ford 9 inch rear end. The custom exhaust system was neatly installed and has stainless hushpower mufflers. The floors are clean, solid metal painted satin black.
This chopped Merc is impressive in many ways but this body and paint blow me away! James Dean would be very proud. Roll up the Lucky Strikes in your t-shirt sleeve, go for a cruise and turn some heads.
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my professional impression of the vehicle.
Our salesmen are happy to assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video that explains the car's condition in detail.
**These cars are displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car make an appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car, your admission will be refunded and you will be given a 1 year membership.

Interesting how some people built cars to go fast in a straight line, some to corner well and some to drive slow and look low and cool.

This a beautiful “bathtub” Merc. Rounded hood and trunk corners are called “pancaked” in custom car speak. Lack of trim and emblems is “shaved” or “nosed and decked.”

Interesting as a kid I had a low 12 second daily driver used for school, work and dates also daily well over a hundred mph with mechanical front and rear drums no issues stopping. 1963 tempest wagon 400 big block turbo 400 ford 9 inch rear L 50 Mickey Thompson tires corvette side pipes . My 1970 dodge sportsman van with a 318 has no issues coming down mountains in the Appalachian mountains with front and rear drums

@@1STGeneral Pushing 70 years old now I've had my share of go fast hot rods and one thing I've learned is if you're going to go fast you have to stop fast and coming down Mt.Evans or any road out here in the rockies I trust my 6 piston brembos over any drum brake. Drum brakes are for carnival rides✌

I was SAD to see ANOTHER Wonderful old Mercury BUTCHERED UP and STRIPPED of its beautiful chrome work. There are Plenty of those Chopped and Dropped LAZY Dragging Looking cars around already. Its Original look is what the public Fell In Love With when it was first introduced, and now it looks like a refugee from a junk yard. Some people may call it customized, but it looks like it was designed for a midget to get into and try to see out of it. Back in 2016 you had an original looking 51 Blue Merc with a white top, a plush gray interior and a more modern 302 engine and trans. But you kept ALL the original look and chrome on the car. Unfortunately I missed that sale by 1-week, and now it's up for sale again with a damaged R/R lower corner and motor problem work done on it, perhaps from a careless owner. Now THAT was A BETTER and More PROPER Restoration Tribute to An Existing Design of Auto Artwork, not something that looks Lazy and Dead.

Really a very well arranged car, excellent paint, but how sad, a car like a mercury 50 that cuts the roof, this makes it lose value, beauty, one of these cars is to keep it original. It does not look good at all and being a unique car.
