1948 Standard Flying 12 Walkround

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A delightful Standard Flying 12. In good condition for year. Runs extremely well, very nice interior. Some paint blemishes but nothing major. Good numberplate. Enjoy some motoring history.

A beautiful car. Alongside a Vauxhall 10 this would definitely have a place in my 'dream garage'.

Immaculate ! My Dad had a 1947 0r 1948 Hillman with similar looks and and styling. He owned it from 1975 till 1978 or so. And my task was to dust, wash, wax polish the car, start & idle the engine (to keep the aging battery alive), and most importantly, to fill up the radiator with water every morning, before he drove it to work ! And yes, to hand crank start on cold winter mornings! He sold it to the mechanic who used to service it. Wonder, what the chances are, of finding it in a barn find, someday... That car had character!

There was a time where Britain made quality and stylish cars , they lacked the basic understanding that steel rusts and the capacity to understand that car electrics can be made to be reliable , but apart from that minor problem in their eyes , everything else was perfect .

I had a black 1948 Standard 12 with green leather upholstery and rear window blind. In 1962/63 as a young apprentice, it was not modern look with two wings at the front. However it did everything i asked, to visit British G P at Aintree, weekend trips from Sheffield to London on 100 mile of then new M1. No lighting or central reservation fencing! Thereafter from Cardiff to London. I renewed the valves and did 22000 miles as the sadly last owner! Only now do i understand Standard meant an aspiration to compare with others not the alternative dismissive view!

My father had this car from 1956 to 1964. It was a very sturdy & comfortable car. We lived in Bangalore. We went for a round trip .. Bangalore- Hassan- Mangalore- Belur-Halebeed- Shravanabelagola in our above car ( fully loaded with luggage ( career & boot) & 10 people. Raghunath

My first car in New Zealand...was painted white so naturally I repainted in British Racing Green, and chopped down the gear lever to modernise (in1967) this fine 1940 model! It actually flew with it's side valve motor, and was a most comfortable drive. I believe that this model was the feature car in Foyle's War??

My dad had a 1939 'Flying Standard' , that had the long sloping fast-back. As a kid, I always thought 'Flying Standard' referred to it's shape; as it always looked like it was going fast, even when it wasn't. This post-War model, showed the changes in style, coming in, mostly of American influence. Further, it took me years to realise the connection tween the name 'STANDARD, and the union Jack badge.

@@patriciaangeles4816 Does your '14' have the back window, devided into two triangular shapes, as our '12' did ? Which by the way, was painted a dark Torquoise Blue. very exotic.
