1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe, Club Coupe / Simple, but Not Plain

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Connor bought this 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe, Club Coupe off of his uncle to replace his 2010 Mazda 3 as a daily driver.
This car has been in his family for the past 15 years and is very tastefully modified with an emphasis on reliability and comfort.
The electrical has been updated to 12V and the car entirely rewired with a new panel and Optima battery.
Engine: Later model 1949 Plymouth P18 flathead six with Offy dual carb manifold, rebuilt Carter carbs, Phillips split dual exhaust manifold, and Crane ignition. It runs great.
Transmission: Rebuilt three-on-the-tree. New clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.
Chassis: Fatman dropped spindles and disk brakes in front, with Eaton coil springs and new shocks. Rebuilt Ford 8 inch rear end with 3.50 highway gears and new brakes. Posies Super-Slide rear springs and new shocks. BFG radial tires. It’s smooth and comfortable.

I've always been pretty much a Chevy/Ford guy and have owned several classics in my 78 years but I am really starting to love the Mopar vehicles, especially the Plymouths in particular Way back when I was in the Navy I did own a nice little 50 Plymouth coupe that was actually given to my wife and I when we lived off base by an elderly neighbor man who probably had pity on us. Buck was his name. He said I'm not just going to give it to you, so you owe me ten dollars just to make the deal square. So I slipped him a ten spot. Never forget that day in 1965 Vallejo, California Mare Island Naval Base. Wish I had that little coupe today.

My mother had a '48 Plymouth Deluxe but it was a 4 door and had the roof that sloped down to the trunk, no shelf in the back. I remember standing on the hump behind the front seats when we went anywhere. The seats were cloth so my mother made us put down towels before we sat down after we went to the beach. That was a long time ago. lol.

It's so cool to see a fully restored and functional 48 special deluxe. My 24Hrs of LeMons team is building one, and it should be ready for track in 2 weeks.

My Dad bought and sold probably 4-5 of these and Dodges in the same years when I was a kid. Lots of time in those models.

My father had a '48 Plymouth coupe. He was going to sell it, but changed his mind after talking it up to a prospective buyer. It was stolen around this time of the year back in 1957, or '58. I've always thought it would be cool to get one like dad's, but I've no place for it.

@@scottyv68 i've just been trying to recreate this paint color at my paint shop. I started with a 1960 Porsche Aetna Blue which looks close and then got it lightened a few times and added more red-blue. After a few changes I think we have something ok in the tin. I will post the paint code if it works out after painting my 48 Special Deluxe. Fingers crossed.

Driving While Awesome Aw, man, thank you! I really dig the videos you guys put out. And thanks for the info on the build. I can't say enough how I appreciate the fact that you kept the period flathead six. So great to see a car moving under basically it's original power, and especially with a few proper goodies from the era. It just sits so nicely and that six has a great sound. Sure, anyone could throw an SBC in there...but why? Hoisting my glass in your direction, and looking forward to more videos!

It could do without the custom/resto moddy type crap. Uncle never should have screwed with an all original, one owner car. Modifications to “make it easier to live with, and you could hop in and drive anywhere.” Who’s he kidding? It’s a 70+ year old car, you always could hop in and drive anywhere!
