I tried doing a flower. I found a cheap plastic pitcher with a lid at the dollar store and poked a hole in the center of the lid. This allowed me to use the lid to suspend the rose in the solution by putting an alligator clip on the stem. I was also able to find the perfect size and because it was much taller than I needed, I was able to pull it out of the solution but left it in the container until it stopped dripping, then completely removed it from the container to dry. I did blue crystals on a white fabric rose. Not only did the crystals turn blue but the fabric absorbed some of the color as well. I only left it in for about an hour so it was only lightly crystalized. Turned out beautifully! Resembled a flower covered in a light frost or frozen dew.

For everybody wanting to do this with kids: you can make an edible version using plain white sugar! Make a really strong sirup, then add granulated sugar onto your basic shape using butter as glue. The sirup needs to be room temp when you add your thing into it or the butter will melt. Leave it at least 8 hrs.

The water bubble is caused due to surface tension and in science is called the meniscus line to measure accurately in a lab you measure from the bottom of the bubble. Hope this helps 😊 I love your channel and your creations. Such an inspiration to us all. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks

Interesting, in particular, because the “bubble” of tissue that cushions your knee is called the, “meniscus,” as well.

People definitely still call them pipe cleaners. You're allowed to call them that if you wish.

I just LOVE this! I'm going to do this with my 2 oldest grandsons! One in 12 and the other 9. I think they'll remember growing crystals on a skulls with their Memaw forever!!

Please do not do let children use Borax ! and if you use it be aware not to breathe in the powder or fumes ,it can cause many problems similar to resin .

I don't mind you fiddling with something on screen. I'm usually doing other things when watching videos, so when you talk thru your process, it let's me know what you are doing. That's better than some other videos I watch that are only music or tool sounds and no talking. I don't mind that either, I just have to watch and not do other things. Lol

I love doing this. I just boil it on the stove. Wait for rapid boil and add my object in there. Take off heat and then cover it in tin foil and let it sit for 24 hrs. Works perfect

Hi Julie! It would be neat if you did the initial layer of crystals and then soak just the top in ADP to make spiked hair crystals. Loving this crystal growing series!!

For pink crystals use a magenta dye.....or a cool red.....warm reds usually turn an orange color when diluted

lol, Julie! I don’t know any fishing line knots, but if I were you, I would string it through the hole then pull both ends down a loop knot at least an inch away from the object. Then use the tails of the fishing line to tie around the stick. The advantage seems like that inch gap would give you space to snip the string when you’re ready to remove it.

Julie, when you start to tie the knot. On the second time of tying a knot wrap the thread three times and tighten, do that a couple knots that way. Pull it tightly.That rose is so beautiful. Now you have me wanting to this 😅. Soooo cool.😊❤

I would let small Druzys grow on the whole thing and then continue to let them grow with just the top and partial back in. Basically grow larger crystal inside the hairline. This turned out very pretty though. Awesome job

You could always make a silicone mold of the things you grow crystals on. If you had a piece of stiff wire, you could bend a V shape at one end and hook it into the hole on the bottom. Then bend the other end to loop over whatever you’re using as a support beam.

❤Hi Julie, I used to do this years ago and I found that Dylan clothes dye,, worked a treat they have lots of nice colors both pastle,, and more vivid vibrant colors that can be mixed with hot water, with the borax, so less is needed at first till you get used to using them it's worth a try to get the color that you are looking for. To tie a knot in fishing line, make a circle. Instead of going through the circle once, go in with the end at least three times and then pull tight. My dad taught me how to tie a hook on without risking losing the hook.

Thanks for the inspiration! Now my mind is racing, I would love to see you do an experiment to take it a bit further by doing an object in the clear crystals, then mix up some wood dye (mixed with alcohol) or fabric dye (mixed with water). Wood dye is highly pigmented, you won't have the color alter as much and you can decide where and how much you color each section by pouring it selectively over it, or using a gentle soaked paint brush. But the crystals may react to the alcohol, who knows..... only one way to find out ❤ Hey! Try it with Unicorn Spit! That would look incredible

Lovely! Skulls are a favorite for me. ~~Fisherman’s knot is going thru the loop 6 or 8 times.. I’ve seen a few making lures & they go thru a bunch of times. I think sutures are similar but it’s 3 times thru. Thanks for sharing 🌹🌹🌹

Julie your borax creations turned out great. I tried this & it didn't turn out the way I wanted. I placed some rocks in the skull so it wouldn't float up & dyed the borax & water mixure purple. The crystals remained white & the water drained out the bottom of the skull for days. Also some of the borax mix didn't adhere to some parts of the skull.

Julie, if you have trouble with tying knots in the fishing line, just grab some of that instant dry glue that's used for fake nails and for building model trains and stuff like that. 😅 A drop dries in seconds and holds securely. 😉 Lots of people use that trick to securely hold knots on beaded necklaces. 😁 That said, the skull creeps me out a bit but I thought it looked great with the pure orange color. 😍 Would have been an incredible Halloween decoration! 😆👍

It's just like tying stitches. Loop tie loop tie.

I saw the holes on the bottom of the skull and thought you'd use that to hang it. Tie fishing line like you would tie a roast.

a trick to prevent spilling is just pour with confidence and quickly instead of slowly

I sprayed crystal clear lacquer on it, and it lost its beauty! So if you love your project you may want to leave it be.

The meniscus is the bottom lower line from the side- accurate..yes- bottom of the bubble.

To make pink, you'll need a cool red (one with blue undertones) over a warm red (one with yellow undertones).

Both rose and skull are beautiful. I will grow crystals if it kills me, so far I have only just done Epsom salts and got a result. Back to the starting point again, wish me luck😊

You can also take those same crystals on the bowl and put it in a pot and boil it and it will work again

If you do another one, try tying your line through the holes on the bottom and hanging it in the solution upside down. You might need a bigger container. LOL But really cool idea!

I really want to see you try different sealers on the crystals to find the best one. After 6 months to a year the crystals will dry out and turn white. I've grown them before. I added some to rings and things. They still look cool but not like they did.

I wonder if you could put something in the hole on the bottom of the skull with a string attached kind of like a plug, hang it from that and when it's done just cut the string off and the object inside would just be a solid piece stuck inside and wouldn't leave a bald spot?

If you have a needle with a big enough eye so that you can thread the fishing line it'll make it easier to maneuver. I wanna clean out the eye sockets, lol. Very cool and he is scary looking. xoxooxoxooxox
