Spitfires and Mustangs are such gorgeous planes.
I visited Monte Cassino once and you immediately realise why the monastery was so important and why it had to be destroyed. It exists the last outcrop of the impenetrable mountains before the Liri valley, which is the gateway to Rome. It was impossible for the allies to use the valley, with the German artillery observers above them and General Alexander realised that it was cruel to ask men to sacrifice themselves for a bunch of stone blocks, so the monastery had to go. The mistake was not seizing the ruins before the Germans did. The rebuilt monastery is a beautiful and serene place, with fabulous views. To the East is the Polish cemetery and it was they who made the final attack in May, 1944. A 1000 men of the 2nd Polish Corps are buried there, along with their commander, General Anders. He died in London in 1970 and his last wish was to be with his fallen brothers. This is very rare in history but showed the world the man he was.
Damn that's so frustrating watching friendly bombers getting picked off like fish in a barrel. But the enemy got there before you guys did. Great video as always. Epic.

I wonder why the bomber gunners in DCS are always so reluctant to shoot. There must be 150+ machine guns total in that first block of bombers and only 1 or 2 of them were firing.
Matrix has the perfect voice for this mission briefing.
My uncle was with 1 Bn Royal Sussex Regt at Monte Cassino and he told me that bombs often fell short of the target and caused some consternation to him and his chums.
Okay, that was awesome! Love these big missions!
My great Uncle was at monte casino, thanks for this reenactment Cap!!
Really enjoyed it Cap. Well done.
Cheers Cap! Enjoyed this one.
Loving the WW2 vibes. Good job.
love your content love the grims!!!!!!
That was brilliant. Wow . I see why dog fights were intense and How brave men were on both sides in 2nd WW. One mistake or a lucky shoot. And that's it. I did a little research. When US airforce were doing long range daylight bombing over Germany. The RAF helped to escort outwards and met them on the return. Usually over middle of France. Thus was to help the p51 to cross into Germany with full ammo and fuel. I didn't know that. You all ways learn something new abount the 2WW. Great . That was actually exciting to watch and hear. Great flying boys. 👍😊
epic visuals at the start with the 51s and B17s
holy shit your uploading a lot

7:55 Matrix initiates stealth approach mode.
That was freaking intense!
Find Monte Cassino on Google Earth, zoom in and rotate the view so you're looking at it from ground level. It's mind blowing. That hill just *dominates* the route that leads to Rome.
Always enjoy your content. Just realised though, I wasn't even subscribed. So I changed that 👍
LOved the video, but Cap was giving me a hernia when he wouldn't pull the trigger on targets in front of his nose, or when he would lead too much, or when he evaded in straight lines, or when he didn't maintain visual and let targets out of sight.
Do you guys realize, WWII American Triple Ace, with his infamous now art and call sign being "OLD CROW"...During WWII he became a Major at the age of 22yrs old which was really young even for that era...He retired as a Full Bird Colonel... Bud Anderson is still with us if weren't aware...he was a test pilot for new prototypes being used prior to and in the Korean War and was Wing Commander in Vietnam...I believe his WIng flew Thuds...He is now 100yrs old and God Bless him...A few days ago, on Dec 2, 2022 he was presented a well armed promotion in rank to Brigadier General ...What amazing man and what amazing young men. I doubt any survivors of the Battle of Britain are still with us but perhaps there are...these men are truly remarkable...in fact, the generation as a whole was. I worry the younger generation of today and present day politicians who should know better minimize their sacrifice...I am concerned few of the younger people have a realistic grasp on the sacrifices of that generation for all of us or how close the world came to the Reich's rule...Anyway, thought I would mention that. Take Care

Hey Cap, I watched a great film yesterday, Red Tails. I wondered if you guys had ever done/re-enacted any of the scenes from the film, the attack on the train, the CAP/Ground Support for the beach landing and subsequent attack on the German airfiled. Your interpretation of those attacks would be interesting.

If anything they woukd base it off of a well documented incident involving the tuskeegee airmen. These kinds of operations require more info than a movie can usually provide. Love that movie tho. If you like that you need to watch battle of britain.
You have to manually open up the air intake for radiator coolant when climbing like that. You could leave it on auto in leveled flight, but in situations like this you should fully open up manually. Its on your left, just above the rudder trim knob.
At the time of the bombing, The german defenders were not occupying Monte Casino, they guessed correctly that the Allies would bombard the abbey and so they waited until the bombing was finished. They occupied the rubble created by the bombing and made the attacking infantries lives absolute hell.
This would be a great way to teach history to students.... especially by letting them participate. Schools have the computers. Next answer to a comment ... watching the Forts getting picked off much as they did ... might make people realize what the actual crews faced in the Big One.

"For this next lesson... we're gonna bomb Berlin." Class: "yeeeeeeey!
Without the machine guns, the bombers just don't stand a chance. It's sad that they can't get the gunners to work, in the bombers. I understand it, but it would totally change that aspect, if the bombers could shoot back. JS
The video has superb quality.... crisp and fluent framerate.. (I use a 3080Ti)
I had a 1/32 model of a 51B with same paint scheme as Caps 51D (built it when I was 15....lol last century.....)
My grandfather was a B-25 pilot in that raid.
One of the most unsense Allied bombing in Italy, that gave Wermacht the chance to occupy the ruins and let them pay a high number of losses trying to kick them out, as shown in Monte Cassino Allied soldiers cemetery.

It was members of the Fallschimjager units who occupied the ruins, nearly 60,000 allied casualties and 20,000 german casualties.

@@penponds The monastery was tactically important as being a high feature gave great views of the allied approach, a superb ISTAR platform. As the Russians found out in Marialpol, airstrikes and IDF are not always timey methods for displacing infantry. With the commanders under pressure of time, they had little choice but to commit ground troops to an assault, this method of warfare is always costly. Ground troops assaulting uphill against well defended static positions manned by high quality and motivated soldiers is never easy, or successful.
A proper reenactment of a real night bombing run is great. The confusion u guys experience in the darkness must have been what they experienced in the day. This doesnt come through in documentaries or films.
You just need a couple of them new fangled P-80s the USAAF is testing out there in Nevada!! 😄 I know it's DCS, but it pained me to see so many B-17s, and Mosquitoes get smoked. The Mossie is one plane I would love to see in an airshow.
One historical detail (even they weren't really there!), where are the P-51 Mustangs of the Red Tails squadron? And one more historical detail... All fighters escorting bombers had always external fuel tanks
nice mission guys,, impresif fighting ! Cap you have to look moore behind you in il2 ! I alwais make the same mistake as you target fixasion. lol greets AGC Peete
While watching these videos I realize how dirty my phone's screen is🧐

Love these big missions, especially with Old Warbirds, Bombers you name it. OUTSTANDING!....I'm still awaiting to see if you guys who do another Earth vs The Universe...I would like too see if the new weapons avalible would stand a better chance....like the new Hypersonic missiles.....US SM 3 AND SM 6 interceptors the AIM 260 missiles as well with the other nations new toys as well....take care.
Great mission Cap! I noticed that the maximum manifold pressure was only modeled to 62 inches of mercury, while at this time, many were capable of 72 inches of mercury. Do you think it would make a significant difference in game, or no?
@hasina1461

this is due to 150oc fuel the p51 in DCS does not have 150octane fuel. the P51 in DCS is modelled based on the P51's that flew in the pacific theatre which did not have 150 fuel due to it being more difficult to get the fuel out to the pacific and was only regularly available in Europe
Hey cap when’s day 2 of the Chinese vs USA /Taiwan conflict. Thanks and great work on the vids
GR, I initially thought you were recreating a mission for the 332nd Fighter Group and 477th Bombardment Group of the US Army Air Corps. These were the famous "Red Tails", who flew both P47s and later P51s escorting bombers in Europe. The movie was garbage, but the story behind the unit is well worth checking out.
Anyone notice the combat helicopters at 27.13. I know Germany had the first type of helicopter when they conducted Operation Eiche when the Nazi's rescued Mussolini....but damn, I didn't think the Flettner Fl 282 helicopter look the same.
Sir Rannulph Fiinnes father was killed at Monte Casino
Wow, talk about a tough mission. Let’s see how many B17s survive?!?
At a time of war, I would have thought gambling was not the priority issue and why single out this casino for cancellation, what did Monty do that was so wrong?
We need to get Cap up in a P-51 for real! Make some calls people!
Why aren't the B17s firing back at the Jerries?
I was an RAF Lightning 2a / Harrier GR3 Sqdn Armourer based at RAF Gutersloh over 75 - 77, how about a cold war, ww3, warsaw pact / nato simulation in north west germany, I stood QRA with the Lightnings and was always concerned it could be the begining or develope into some more, including a full soviet para drop on Gutersloh which we did practice for. the simulation to use all nato aircraft of the time and warsaw pact air forces. Thanks

K-14 gunsight.
DCS is so expensive
Surely you can't give your fellow grims heads ups whilst dogfighting after you have been shot down yourself ..not possible in the real world
I thought mustangs were fast. They seemed mediocre in this battle
You're right as always Cap. You're not very good at guns guns guns. LOL
Hey Cap, by the by, we are not 'humans', (you know what I mean), we are budding pilots. That's why we watch ;}. Please treat us as such.....Much Respect and Great Vids!
Long live the German paratroopers of Monte Casino. Allzeit Glück ab!
These videos r awesome but i think they’d be better if u guys worked on coordinating ur skins cuz it kinda takes away from the video to have planes with unrealistic skins for the mission ur on in my opinion.
awesome video as always.. especially your tutorial series is a great help. But please, please stop saying valued viewers all the time........ for the rest,, keep up the good work and have a nice day
Good things you guys weren't the real thing. We would be speaking German. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
