I really enjoyed this video. I was a crew chief on Jolly Greens during my participation in the Viet Nam war. While I don't believe Jolly Greens took part in this battle, seeing them included brought a smile to my heart. While I could nit-pick, for example radio calls for the A-1s were Sandy only on SAR missions. For attack missions such as this a different call would have been used. But it was very well planned and carried out. A salute to the Grim Reapers!

That’s interesting, I just gave them the Sandy call sign so it would easy for the FAC to know what type of aircraft they were when they made initial contact.

Great reenactment! Thanks for sharing!! Beyond the fact that Sandy Flight call signs were always reserved for SAR missions, the Sandy flight lists the aircraft as A-1 Skyraiders in the header, but shows them as P-47Ds for each aircrew. The thumbnail you chose shows a P-47 at the forefront, not an A-1 Skyraider.

Thus illustrates my second biggest conflict with DCS that drove me to shelve it for the time being. (first being the CONSTANT futzing to keep running with every update)! Perfectly chosen, familiar scenario. Excellent research to find key details and a similar geographical Area. Thorough mission design to work around deficiency's in available assets. Excellent staffing, briefing participation, everyone behaving and going with the plan. Wind em up, Cockpit checks, last min details, excitement builds then..... Meh... Up we go, alone in a highly detailed clickable cockpit. You, your radios, your wingman and an abyss of nothingness outside! Follow routs as best you can. Inability to recognize each other, geographical landmarks, enemy, friendly, fire? smoke???? Thousands of pounds of ordinance, rockets, bombs dropped. Impact and then meh..... No explosions, no fire, no residual smoke but a puff? Colored smoke invisible until your too close to maneuver. Flat world with no ability to get a feel for direction. Where did my wingman go? He was just off my port side! Oh wait, this frame he's back. Ground target spotted by me, wingman can't see a thing and he's at my tip. Roll in, wait, their gone, nope there they are, wait, gone again??? DIGITAL COMBAT SIMULATORY is an AWSOME flight sim, probably the best! You guys do a fantastic job!! but DCS WORLD sucks. Even with Caps' outstanding cinematics even you guys seemed disappointed in the actual execution phase . Not sure if its a limitation of all sims, how it was for pilots in real war or a major miss for DCS, but all the excitement of the build up of planning, starting and flying aircraft quickly disappeared for me, when I lift off into the emptiness, even on an active server. Back to lurking, maybe v2.8?

As to the model of lroquois "Huey" , given the date of the battle,of La Drang 14-19 Nov. 1965, I would guess that most were either UHIA's or most likely the UH1B ( as I believe by this time, the UH1A's were mostly designated as Medivac birds ) because the UH1B was equipped with the 960 H.P. Lycoming T53-L-5 and thus was better suited to carrying troops and supplies as well as preforming gunship duties when equipped as such.

There were two engagements. This mission only focused on only one, the 1/7 Inf BN, Hal Moore's unit. An US Inf BN is approximately 600 soldiers, including organic Service and Support elements which would not take into battle. If memory serves LTC Moore never had more than 400+ soldiers on the ground at any one time. It's okay because 400 infantry on the ground vs. an equal number of enemy infantry at one time will crash DCS anyways. We make the stuff work in game as best we can. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Ia_Drang

Bit confused. I get that the P-47 stand in for the Skyraiders but whats with the Sabre's and the F/A-18's? Also does this game not allow the use of Napalm? I no it was a very controversial weapon but they dont have to show the men burning.
