This was very helpful - Thank you so much for taking us along - Hello from Texas
Great work as always, Bill - thanks for sharing this!
My 220BX is all steel and dated 8-3 which I believe to be August of 1943. I talked to those in the Coleman Collector's Club and found that 8-43 seems to be a common date for BX lanterns, and, as a matter of fact, said that almost all BX lanterns carried the 8-43 date. I completely restored my BX and it runs like a brand new lantern. Besides the CQ's, 132a, and 129, the BX is the oldest Coleman lantern I own at the present. W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee

Yes sir I would agree with dating aspect of it as I have a Coleman BX sitting in my shed that's dated 8/ 1943!

We have a world War 2 Era lantern.
Enjoying and learning from your great videos. Thanks.
Nice work as always. I loosen the cage first before trying to loosen the air tube screw. That way you can go at the screw straight on rather than at an angle.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Ck with the nakedpicker on E bay he has alot of the coleman stickers keep up the videos
I’m working on a 228D right now that I have to do some similar things. Interesting to see how you are doing it. Looking forward to part two 😊
Very cool! Ive got a Coleman 200 from 1956 that ive been thinking about restoring, might have to get around to that soon haha.
William, the dripsie sink strainer tool could help prevent losing a part down the drain when working in the sink. We use them on the kitchen sink as well. Well designed tool if you can get new from Amazon in CA. If not avail there, let me know and I can send you one from KS.

Thanks. In fifteen years I have yet to drop anything down there, but I use the side with the garbage disposal just in case. If something does fall down there, I can easily retrieve it.
Bill I’m surprised you never use oven cleaner or lye. Works great for paint removal as well.

With all the rust, the wire wheel was a good option. It stripped the paint while cleaning the fount pretty well. I've been experimenting with other options. Last week I made a video using acetone. It'll probably be a while before it's released. I had planned to use oven cleaner in a video, but as I was setting up for the video I realised my wife had bought me the fume-free variety, which isn't any good at stripping paint. One of these days.

Yes the oven cleaner is very good at paint removal. Better than acetone. You can even mix in hot water in a small container leaving it as strong as possible and let it sit over night. Oven cleaner strips oxidation on nickel and does wonders for fuel residue and gummed up generators. I usually use this before the citric acid because it pulls off the organic material allowing the citric acid to work better and faster. And yes get the good stuff. You can buy lye powder as well. Just be careful
My BX is Nov 1942. All steel. But no yellow decal.
I like your video's Bill! I have an old lantern that was my dads. I'm looking to rebuild this lantern and get it running again. I'm on the island as well and would like to speak with you. not sure how to PM you on here. Keep making the great videos. Kevin

Look me up on Facebook and send a message. I'm active in quite a few of the Coleman groups, including TrueNorth Canadian and Pacific Northwest.
Oven cleaner left overnight loosens most of the paint for a cheap easy stripper .
It's not very common to come across a Coleman 220bx ilike mine.
