The ill-fated Elmer, one of the finest vocalists of his era, sounds especially vulnerable in this performance, despite -- or perhaps because of -- the joy he experiences under the hypnotic spell of those magical orbs. I like the alto solo.

All I can find is that he died of heart failure - at the age of 36? What happened to him??

@@Just_Sara According to the source I found, several illnesses were listed on his death certificate, including: appendicitis, peritonitis and a heart condition -- any of which, the author stated, could have been responsible for the heart failure that caused his death. Of those mentioned, the heart condition seems to me the most likely cause, but I'm no doctor. And, yes, he was 36 -- born 4/8/02, died 10/5/38.

I'm kind of new to pre Swing music and I can't over the amount of pseudonyms going on here. Nevertheless, this is a great recording.
