Mistakes are definitely part of sewing, I hear many people are a bit tired to see perfect videos (like sewing is somehow magically flawless and aesthetic) with perfect processes. Showing how to fix mistakes is a very good thing. Thanx.

I’m happy to hear that. Thank you for watching.
I love the back of that fabric! The stripes look fantastic going in all various directions. It’s created a nifty optical illusion up the skirt front, the way the dark stripes joined, it looks like shorts. Stripes are full of surprises, you never know exactly what you’re going to get 😄

Thank you so much! I'm glad you noticed the optical illusion created by the stripes. It's always fun to experiment with different fabrics and patterns to create unique designs.
I love this video, thank you showing the mistake. I would enjoy seeing more vintage pattern videos.

Lovely dress, it really suits you. It also has the look that the bottom could be shorts making a mini jumpsuit.

Yeah the center of this dress really wants to go between my legs. Making it look like a jumpsuit. Lol 😂 I have never had a dress do this before.

Thank you. Yes I think next time will be easier now that I have got through it once.
You are brave to do that with your final fabric, I'd HAVE to first use my old bedsheets or something 😅 I was sweating just watching this

Ha. I feel you. If I make something from scratch always sew up a muslin first. It’s definitely a good idea.
Amazing video, I already know and liked it before watching 😂❤ Just a thought on your thumbnail, I think you’d get even more click throughs if you blurred out your end result and clearly show the pattern. Folks will watch through to see the big reveal 💗🍒👌🏾☀️✨

Great idea. I will change it up.
Something to keep in mind is closures. You put a zipper in the back at the back center, which is common in garments post 1950s. In the late 30s, they most likely would have given you a side placket to install a zipper, snaps, hooks and eyes, or buttons. Zippers weren't very popular, and it's more likely the pattern would have called for a placket for snaps. This may be why the front is bigger than the back. You may want to do a mock-up and see if that fixes the issue before totally modernizing the pattern.

Great suggestion. Thank you. Yeah I have a few vintage pieces that snap up the sides. I’ll have to dig around the net & see if I can find the pattern instructions for this dress to see what it was they wanted. Thank you for watching.
Wow you are very brave sewing this dress in silk with stripes!I love it..I reckon it was meant to to be blousey at the waist..any ways hi from Australia. Love your Koala T shirt

Hi 👋 Yeah I’m thinking it’s suppose to be super blousy & cinched at the waist with a belt. I will have to sew it up again! Thank you for watching.
This style is so sweet, it reminds me of a 1950s business causal look. This would also look good as a pajamas type outfit. Sort of similar to a gown. It wouldn't be a bad idea to add a romper to your list. We would love that too. Also your hair looks so lovely. ❤️🤍
@SewAnastasia

Oooo as a nightgown it would be cute ☺️ I love rompers! Thank you for watching .
i think the pleats in the front had to be gathered way more. that way they would be deeper, the front would fit exactly the back, the triangle in the bust front would be smaller and lower (as in the sketches of the dress) and its sides would be more slanted so the lapels would be bigger and it would result much closer to the original design. maybe if you try this pattern again, after finishing the back you could pin the front at it at the sides and play with the pleats until you find exactly how they should be gathered. Beautiful fabric and it looks great on you!

More vintage sew ups coming next week!
Pretty dress and you did a great job at figuring out how to do it, and it's definitely "Anastasia style''. Also the little skirt and top you are wearing is really lovely, it suits your gorgeous new hair colour which is very flattering on you......i'm guessing it was a very expensive salon job and I especially love how the blonde blends into the subtle red towards the ends, definitely a great choice, it suits you so much.😊

Thank you for watching :) oh my hair lol I’m glad you like it. My husband dyed/bleached it for me. Lol 😂 I’m not sure how I feel about it. I appreciate the kind compliments about it though ☺️ The skirt I have on is a wool 90s banana republic that I tailored up to fit. I found it at the thrift shop. Woohoo 🥳
Beautiful dress and the fabric is 🔥

Do it!!! The vintage patterns are fun to sew. Thank you for watching.
Enjoyed watching. Nice to see you work through the problems with no panic. Nice end product, would like to also see the ankle length version to see how the pleats helped it flow with body movement. Great job.
@SewAnastasia
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Yes I’m interested to see the longer version too in a fabric that has more drape it to. I think my fabric was a bit stiff.
Maybe add more of a gathering stitch on either side to make it match the skirt. The pattern shows lots of gathers.
@SewAnastasia
Жыл бұрын
Yeah this pattern was not true to the sketch at all. Very disappointing. I think I want to pattern draft it true to the sketch cause I think it’s a fabulous dress over all.

How can I help you?
The dress doesn’t look like the pattern because the point of the skirt is much higher in reality than on the drawing. The drawing has it finishing under the bust but it actually finishes above it. That would have given it much more dramatic lapels too. Maybe the artist misunderstood the design. The length of the pattern implies the wearer is about 7 feet tall, so maybe that’s the problem! It’s very interesting but I prefer the artist’s rendition to the reality. Good job with a difficult project.
