1929 U.S. Open Highlights
Спорт
A two-time U.S. Open champion when he arrived at Winged Foot, Bob Jones had also finished as the runner-up four times, twice by way of a playoff. Extra golf would be a requirement again, as his three-stroke lead after 54 holes evaporated thanks to two triple bogeys during the final round. The 36-hole playoff the next day against Al Espinosa left little in doubt, however, with Jones winning by 23 strokes to claim the title for a third time.

People and golfers then, were so polite and thoughtful. Golfers were competitive yet very thoughtful and had extremely good etiquette. The spectators were very well behaved then.
Excellent find. This kind of footage before the 40s is hard to find, with mixed results in quality. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, I enjoyed bobbys speach...listening to him was a delight
I was one of the golfers playing in this match! Time sure flies when you’ve been around the world & back and seen it all. ☕️
Fantastic footage...thanks.
Bobby Jones shot -3 in the 36 hole Playoff defeating Al Espinosa by 23 shots!
where’s the ball tracer?

It’s so distracting when they fill the widescreen edges with blurred out extensions. Just let it be 4x3.
i learnd so much things about golf or even more interresting, the style of live that is was back in that time. in 2021 not a lot of peoples are still alive that could say that they were there
The great Bobby Jones. The best and never forgotten!
MORE like this please!!
I believe the film starts off with the playoff between Jones and Johnny Farrell at Olympia Fields in 1928. After that it looks like 1929 at Winged Foot.
@ 4:14 What a gracious winners acceptance speech Bobby Jones gave. It is wonderful to hear him talk with his Georgia accent.
0:33 Horton Smith .. the first winner of The Masters. 1:04 Gene Sarazen .. the second winner of the same ..
Outstanding... just outstandig!
I love how little has changed.

It’s exactly the same don’t you think .
Incredible historical document
Smoking while putting. After address, hit the ball within 2 seconds. These are what i love about golf in the old days
This is so incredible! I think any kid can learn how to play golf by using Golf Kinetics too
Awesome Thanks
Nice sound effects with old car hooter in the background. Thats a sound that needs to be brought back with the modern cars.
Love the silence and respect from the crowd.. not like today where everyone has to yell something after each swing and drink alcohol in your face while you swing

@@vadimnimarov8796 I never said I didn't like it.. just more distracting. Golf needs barriers from the crowds like all other major sports.. Looks dangerous to have people worth $10 million next to random strangers who are under the influence of something...
Riveting commentary. 😳
does anyone knows how far Bobby Jones drives were off the tee?

About 270y... the ambassador/ legend/ hands down greatest gift to the sport. One of the 5 people from history I would be honored to meet. I have been blessed with meeting 5 people who have lived in my lifetime that I very much have had that pleasure.

Well he drove off the tee most of the time to stay in fairway and out of bunkers but in one of his thirteen major wins, a par 5 605 yards long slightly uphill up to that point nobody had putt for an eagle and made it, Bobby hit driver-spoon to five feet and canned the putt for the eagle. Contemporary golfers of his era said he could hit over 300 but usually didn't, rough was long and thick bunkers were sand and dirt and some courses raked in furrows or didn't take at all. His 66 in a qualifier at a b open was one of the greatest rounds ever 6800 yards and some thought longer, he could've went lower had he made a few longer putts.
Basically, the swing is not different from today's one. The difference is just uniform.
So cool
Daaang those undulations tho
Why is Peter Alice not commentating? Thanks for putting it on, great to watch!
If I could say one word to these people back then, it would be, “Sell!l

I sometimes wonder what these guys could do with modern equipment.
@jaybee7890

about the same, they would be good. jones would be elite, middle pros middle, etc. its all the same as it ever was. relative to equipment available, nothing has changed in terms of skill versus an amateur.
@garymorris1856
Жыл бұрын
@@jaybee7890 I believe the difference in the equipment they used in the 1920's and what is being used now would be a huge factor. I heard Gary Player say that he could hit the ball as far when he was 70 as when he was 30 due to modern clubs and golf balls.
@2:10 no practice swinging just trusting
Notice they didn't mark the ball on the green. You had to play it like it was even if mud was on it

They should make this film in color and HD, I wanna see their clothes they look so cool
What was there scores back then did they shoot in the 80s 90s sin e there equipment was not as advanced as ours today

same scores. Jones shot 72-69 in the 36 hole playoff at Winged Foot. Difference was course length - about 6600 yards instead of 7400. Jones hit it 250-260 off the tee. Skill level the same, as good as anyone today, better than most.

At a major, Bobby played a par 5 605 yards long slightly uphill, nobody had eagled it, he hit driver - spoon to five feet and made the eagle putt. It was decades before anyone equaled that. He drove to stay in the fairway because rough was long and bunkers were not raked or raked in furrows. Players of his day said he could hit it over 300.
The commentator provides absolutely nothing lol
