18 - Step By Step: Basement Insulation & Progress on Solar Panels and Victron Gear.

As a new week begins, we savor the final days of summer. Philippe takes refuge from the heat in the basement, working on insulating the floor from below. Remember those solar panels in the field? They're now one step closer to being connected, along with the Victron gear patiently waiting in the barn. We'll wrap up the week with a terrace and front yard cleanup. Enjoy!

I thought I would Google "Typical Belgian attitude". This is what it gave me: Belgians tend to be tolerant, flexible, modest, and open-minded. They value privacy, enjoy a safe and comfortable life, work hard, and are self-disciplined. These lovely people are all of that and much more!

Hello there, I have just finished watching your last episode and am enjoying your journey. I find it fascinating how you and a lot of you youtubers are able to hook up your internet, solar and even water without having inspections, never happen in Australia, so good on you, keep doing your thing.. I am also loving how you both share baby Odin and include him in your projects, being a Nana, I find that so beautiful ❤. I also have a soft spot for your gorgeous dog, and also your cat and ofcourse the "girls" free range chickens (or chooks as we call them) lay the best eggs.. See you all next week, sending love from me and mine in Western Australia 🇦🇺 ❤️

Hello 👋, Thx for watching. We are going to get our electricity inspected. When we bought the farm there was an inspection of the electricity system and it aint up to code, so once we are done hopefully it will be without too maney remarks 😎. Yeah he doesnt go to daycare so he has to be included wether he wants to or not 😂 Yeah June (belgian malinois) and Lucy (cat) are sweeties.

Maybe somebody has already mentioned this, but if you spray white vinegar on the weeds between your stones, it kills the weeds.

Can you tack in a little metal strapping across the bottom of the beams just to hold the insulation? In old houses here in the U.S. we use a thin metal strip that we tack into the beams. It's easily removable and is just a simple solution. With your cable and zip ties...have you ever thought of using velcro ties? Amazon sells them with varying sizes per pack and they're reusable!

I have to get some, i had someone come over to help me a few days ago and he has reusable zip ties. The insulation is staying in for now but that would be a good solution i have seen it used here as well 😃

Hello from Canada , you and your wife are sure an inspiration to all of Us. How you do everything yourself with the exception of when you have family over to help is fantastic.I have a couple of questions ? Why can you not put the solar panels on the roof, and how will they do in the winter if you get lots of snow. Keep up the good work I love watching you you tube channel.

Hello, both the roofs of the barns need replacing so the easiest was to put them on the ground. Also the roof of both the barns are east-west facing so not ideal unless i put panels on both sides. I think in the future i want to build my wood storage and use the solar panels as roof. It will also be easy to clean them cause i will be able to reach them easily and i will be able to slope them to a better angle of 45 degrees. It doesn't snow that much anymore over here apparently but if it does then you need to brush the snow off or wait for it too melt to get productivity going again.
