Since 2006 (I was 7 at that time), I played Doom with keyboard and mouse, even in the vanilla DOS version. I wonder where my old PC went nowadays...

Apparently the original, which was created for the Judgment Day party in 1995, was recorded onto VHS. So this is probably a 3rd generation copy of that at least, 20+ years after the fact. It's a shame we'll probably never see the original.

The Doom 64 trailer guy sounds like he'd rather be doing literally anything else.

The Last one has a gameplay section of Doom Eternal in the BFG 10k Control room that isn't in the game I'm sad i really wish to spend more time in the phobos base

Didn't know Final Doom had a commercial....nice. That was probably my favorite Doom....and Doom64 and 3, from the old school era. Love the current one and can't wait for 2! You missed the Doom 3 commercial, but still a great video.

Doom II: Consuming people since 1994.

Imagine it, Doomguy is running around E1M2, killing everything in sight. The blood of his enemies drips from his hands. The heavy metal music in his head is blasting. Then suddenly, he stumbles upon Bill Gates in a brown robe who proceeds to discuss the power of Windows. Truly the scariest thing he’s faced yet.

These games are getting really realistic.

little thing I noticed, in the 32x commercial you can see the player pull out a BFG 9000 but it was never actually placed anywhere in the game

what weirded me out about doom when I first seen it was the numbers for health. they looked scary for some odd reason and I didn't understand how the health system worked. it was so surreal to me.

Alex St. John was flexing hard putting that in there, as he had nearly been fired for using that phrase at the spring Comdex prior to this event (Microsoft Judgment Day, '95) when promoting what was then WinDoom for Windows 3.11.

They almost did; the first Doom movie production started in 1995, but that version went into development hell and is lost to the sands of time. Some of the miniatures that were built for it showed up in photos a long time ago and basically looked like the monsters from the game, so it's a real shame.

I love how the SNES Doom commercial is so similar to the scenario of Doom: Repercussions of Evil. Paranoid marine sitting on a crate in a dark room with the lights sparking "out of the air". I suspect after that door opens, he picks up his palsma rifle and blows up the wall. :)

i remember seeing the preacher commercial on tv before. once then i was around 12. i never saw it again. i thought it was a dream.

I feel sorry for the poor soul from the marketing department who had to record SNES Doom footage for the commercial. He's clearly struggling to operate the barely functional game.

I got a mystery for you Doomkid. There's at least one trailer missing from this list. Back in the 90s, I really feel like the summer or spring of 1998 specifically, Toys'r'us had some kind of big wall TV with a bunch of buttons on it. There were video game icons on all of them and one of them was Doom. All I can remember is the narrator called Doomguy "Drak" and called the automap the "beyon-o-map". I have not been able to find it anywhere, it might very well be lost media. We never ended up going back to Toys'r'us so I never saw it again. Looking at Wikipedia, it could have been a 3DO or Sega Saturn trailer but those might be dead ends.

What the hell went wrong with Doom 64 that it fell by the wayside. Didn't even honour it when naming Doom 3. Fucking awesome game I never knew it existed until this year year but playing Doom games for over 20 years. Some of the other titles in this deserved to be forgotten

5:34 : The only part of Gates' speech that somehow wasn't completely bogus in his long PR charade about how Win 95 it itself alone was supposedly going to make every game better, faster, stronger and the like just via the magical power of directx :-) Funny the way he pushes it so hard as to destroy his own Ms-Dos to sell his points forward, while most of us know that back then that DOS remained still way more solid than Win95 ever became when it came to gaming compatibility and stability. Developers knew it too and hated the barely manageable CPU/memory hog it proved to be, and thus mostly stuck to the good old Protected Mode until it was phased out with subsequent OS installments, in other terms once they had no choice left and Win 2k had improved enough down the line to more or less sustain the "Next-Gen" of the time without too many BSODs. "Cleaning the MS-DOS mess" as he says translated into an even bigger Windows mess in the real world. In the end, he was right : PC was the future master race and that was his winning card, for that he deserves BIG kudos and earned his billions, but that's about it. Very smart businessman ! The rest was commercial-technical gibberish designed to impress the uneducated consumer base (which at the time was large), and nothing even remotely close to a technical reality, until maybe Win 7 came out, and then Microsoft gained the kind of respect only MacOS and Linux enjoyed for decades before including in professional applications.
