    A few years ago I worked with a lady who said she had a bunch of "silver" dollars to sell. I looked at them, all but two were clad Ike's. I bought them for face and paid what the two Morgan's were worth. I used the clad Ike's for tips when we went to the cafe. Surprising how many servers didn't know what the Ike dollars were.

    Couple months ago I went to my local Bank to see if they had any IKE's to buy. The Teller, her Supervisor, and the Loan Officer (all in their early 20's) had NO CLUE what I was talking about!! The Loan Officer (after I explained) told me that the main branch had some...so, he requested them. He called me about a week later to tell me they were in. I went down to pick them up...they were actually Presidential Dollars and not IKE's. I even showed him a picture...they still had no clue!!😂

    I see on your Facebook page people who are constantly posting "Is my coin...." and over and over you or someone else will tell them the truth. So easy for them to just LEARN what is and is not a "special" coin. But the scammers are feeding ego hungry people who don't want to learn. So sad. But keep educating and hopefully those people will finally get a light bulb moment and start to learn.

    Dan is an excellent and honest source of information, education regarding numismatics. You won't go wrong learning from him. I'd also highly recommend (if you haven't already) that you purchase a copy of the 'Red Book' (A Guide Book of U.S. Coins - R.S. Yeoman). It is and has been the 'go to' reference for beginner and expert alike since 1948, updated annually.

    I absolutely loved this video!! I've been working on my IKE'S for months with a lot of help from Andy at your shop. I've been able to almost complete my Eisenhower Collection. With this video, I'll be able to have some confidence in finding the varieties. With your suggestions on coin books, I was able to read and see some of these varieties visually, but this video is exactly what I needed to feel better about understanding what I have and what I need to complete this collection and move on to my Susan B. Anthony's. Your loyal customer in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

    @CoinHELPu I finally figured out how to comment on these videos. I said I would do this in one of my comments on a purchase from your site a few months back, and I am a person of my word. I'll do my best not to overwhelm you with comments today, but I wanted to make sure I remembered how to do this, so please forgive me if I'm replying or doing things incorrectly. I'll be sure to look at familiaizing myself more in these areas. To continue to show support, I'll keep my reviews/comments for my favorite video of the week. I shouldn't be surprised that you responded because you said in your videos that you read these comments, but I am. Thank you for that because there are so many times that things are said, but there is no action. You continue to prove that you can find a reputable person amongst all the unreliable. BEST WISHES to you and yours.

    I remember when they were initially released. Most were of mediocre quality, thus the uber high values in grades past MS66. As depiction of an eagle in flight (or any eagle) it is, in my opinion, the worst of any coinage design of the last few centuries. Frank Gasparro can not be held to account for this, as it was a faithful rendition of the Apollo 11 mission shoulder patch. The first moon landing having been such a recent and major achievement it was an entirely appropriate design. Many of the SBA Dollars were also of poor quality, though some of the San Francisco circulation strikes were deeply struck with polished fields and cameo devices. I had rolls of them back in the day, used for groceries and rent in leaner times. The same reverse design as the 'Ike' was used on the SBA dollar and in my opinion looked better on the smaller format.

    03:44 - You misspoke here, saying _"The type two is thicker letters on it",_ then at 03:53 you correctly identified the reverse with thicker, flatter, letters as type one. Stuff happens. 04:57 - That poor '73 clad proof - those aren't just 'milk spots', it's a milk storm. The original mint package (OPG) was not kind to these. 14:05 - If the 'no S' 40% Ike was actually minted at Philadelphia, it is not a "no P" as the 'P' mintmark had only been used during 1942 - 45 (for 35% silver five cent coins of he WW2 period) and would not appear again until the 1979P Susan B. Anthony Dollar. There were no 'P' marked coins from 1946 through 1978. A 40% silver Ike business strike from Philadelphia would be a pattern or an off metal (off planchet) error as all 40% Ikes were to have been minted at San Francisco. Conversely, as proofs were to be minted only at San Francisco during that period, if the coin was actually minted at Philadelphia it would be in a rather similar class as a 'branch mint proof'.

  • @CoinHELPu

    @CoinHELPu

    6 ай бұрын

    It’s not a No S was my point and that it would be a No P before it was a No S. As PCGS listed it. Also I covered all the mint mark facts in more than one video.

    @-oiiio-3993

    @@CoinHELPu There was no 'P' mintmark during 1976, and had not been for over thirty years. If minted at San Francisco (as all proofs of the period were purported to be) it is a "No S". If minted at Philadelphia, it should have status of a pattern or 'specimen proof'.

  • @CoinHELPu

    @CoinHELPu

    6 ай бұрын

    You’re preaching to the choir. I have more than one video on the mint marks so you’re not telling me anything I don’t already know. If you would listen you would learn something. PCGS has this as a no S, but it can’t be, it was minted at Philadelphia mint. So it would be a n P before it would be a no S. All Philadelphia issues should be called No P, you evidently haven’t seen all the erroneous listings of no mint mark coins online. It’s not a no mint mark, it’s not supposed to have one if minted at Philadelphia, but it’s more appropriate to call a Philadelphia Minted coin a No P than a No S or a no mint mark.

  • @-oiiio-3993

    @-oiiio-3993

    6 ай бұрын

    @@CoinHELPu "All Philadelphia issues should be called No P" is where we diverge here. I do see your point regarding the spurious "no P" listings on Ebay, but why not just educate people to the fact that the only 'P' mintmarked coins prior to 1979 were the 35% silver five cent coins of 1942 - 45? "No P" implies that a 'P' is missing. There was no intended 'P' mark on any U.S. coin dated 1793 through 1941 nor 1946 through 1978. _"it’s not supposed to have one if minted at Philadelphia"_ is correct, and to call it "no 'P' " when there was no 'P' mintmark at the time is nonsense. The fact that the 'P' mintmark was resumed has long remained a mystery to me. The mint(s) had no problem with markless coinage being produced at West Point and San Francisco to supplement production during the same period as the 'P' mintmark was gradually reintroduced. What is the verification that this 'No S' Ike was produced at Philadelphia?

  • @CoinHELPu

    @CoinHELPu

    6 ай бұрын

    The nonsense is a professional company calling a Philadelphia Mint struck coin a no S. Why don’t you give PCGS a hard time instead of me? I have educated way more people than you, thousands of people on the mint mark facts. So stop acting like I haven’t. No P is more appropriate than no mint mark ad they about the same difference, but using No P at least teaches people that a coin just didn’t have a P mint mark because the Philadelphia mint didn’t use one, but saying no mint mark is misleading and doesn’t define anything. I know you feel this great need to be corrective but don’t let your pride and ego get in the way. I know better than you do on what people need to know in this hobby and you or no one else is going to change how I do it.
