The simplest way to check if it’s a small date is to look at the number 8 if the top of the 8 is half the size as the bottom of the 8 then it’s a small date

@@alsports2000 No that wouldn’t tell you the difference between a small date or a large date The 1982 one cent coin should weigh around 3.1 grams All the years after that should be around 2.50 grams

The biggest problem is finding the buyers which is very hard to do

I think the guys at the mint purposely make a mistake from time to time to keep coin collecting interesting. I have an unstamped dime. Not especially rare but an interesting thing to have. There are thousands of error types. It's nearly impossible to keep up with them. I have a 5 gallon plastic water jug filled with change. When my grandson is old enough to understand coin collecting we will go through the huge pile of change with magnifying glasses. Something interesting, educational, and hopefully fun to do together.

Lucky me i have two 1982 -D- small date, weight over 3.1 grams getting them certified

I have one in my collection the 1982 D small date copper penny with an AU condition. The problem is, I do not know who is collecting such penny. It has been my collection for more than 3 years, I don't know it's a rare one, until I have viewed your video. History tells, only two persons found to discover the rare penny, I can say, I am the third person to discover the rare penny. I have weighed it is 3.1 gms. Thank you for this video.

I have two of this 1982d small date Lincoln cent and so many other coins from the USA and from very many other countries of the world

Always find it amazing how these rare coins from a mint that KNOWS what there doing yet a few coins seem to get by before saying ooops how'd that happen? 🤔 What would really be cool is if you worked there and at transition time as you start making next year's coins at the end of the current year that you punch out a few coins for cool Christmas gifts to family and friends before the change over. I pose eventually over time they would get passed down and someone will sell one cuz they need money and after authenticating it becomes a one of a kind find unless someone else decides to do the same. Like the 13 dimes and the 5 nickels all from people that worked at the mint only 2 of the 1.9 million dollar dimes were spent on ice cream by two kids at an amusement park so good luck finding those. The other 11 who knows. When you actually find an error coin like a ddo they say it's not though it's clear as day and the ones they say is are impossible to tell because it's one or two numbers that barely have a piece of edge that you can't really make out. They say it's machine doubling which is on the rise by the way you say ok so these a machine doubling and there like no no those are ddo's but they look just like the first one. Because this one is in the book and this one isn't c'mon man!

I used to think that they would use up whatever planchet that was left before starting a transition. Like a half of sheet of copper and might as well use it up and start the new and whatever comes out is what you got and if nobody knows but the mint then they would be mixed and sent into circulation but when something is found they claim to not know anything about it and have never spoken on anything that they are aware of that I'm aware of. How you get 83 copper pennies and not know it? If it's true then someone did it and it's been shown on KZread and documented of people making coins that aren't supposed to exist. A man in Mississippi collected pennies for forty years and decided to cash them in and pcgs got wind of it and ngc I believe and sent graders to look at each coin and they found NOTHING. just sayin

Oh and there is an 89 and 90 copper penny 😳. I had the same expression. Penny's and copper aren't even supposed to be around each other. Pose a penny was stuck on a dime die and struck the bottom of the other dime die to have a penny and dime mesh before they said oops how'd that get in there. C'mon man that's like saying there ain't any UFO's. Ever stuck a penny on a railroad track with sum gum or tape because it ain't gonna stay there by itself when the train comes and then say huh how'd that get flattened out.

I’m sure there’s so many cameras on the people striking coins at a mint that it would be next to impossible to get by with making a few Christmas gifts. That is if the security of the workers is any better bang for the Buck than the inspection of the coins going out is.

In 82 The Mint changed alloys used to produce pennies. Some 82's are Copper , some are Zink . Large Date and Small Date produced by All Mints - Except For The Denver Mint. *** No 1982 Copper Small Date ( The 2 is on 1982 is Different - ask Google also Utube gives info ) . Soooo , 1982 D Small Date $$$ . Other coins in 82 have to have error of various types to be valuable . There are a few though not Big $ like the 82 copper Small Date. Good Luck ...

Since I've been checking ally Lincoln cents out , I have 2 of the 1982 - D pennies and they weigh in a 3.1 on a coin gram scale and I also know my presious metals anyways , they are 100% the real deal , and I will say this tonight on 12/02/2023 anyone out there to hat heads me in the right direction to selling these 2 pennies any more than $20,000 for the both , i will give you 25% of any amount over the $20,000 so look me up and let's get it done , what a holiday bonus.

The order of transition makes it impossible the mint changed the metal than changed the date. The one found 1st has the dmm tilted to the left. I have hundreds and none of the dmm tilt that way
