This is a universal series wound motor, It means: 1.- The field wounds are connected in series with the armature. 2.- It can be drive with AC or DC. 3.- It is a variable torque motor, as you load the motor it's RPM reduces but it's torque increases. 4.- When you substitute field coils to permanente magnet field you are changing motor charasteristics: 4.1- Only can use DC 4.2- Are changing from a variable torque motor to a constant torque motor. 4.3- If you use high magnetic strength magnets, you obtain high torque but low RPM. 4.4- Conversely, If you use low magnetic strength magnets, you obtain low torque but higher RPM

Derick Monteiro Oliva most of the electric motors I've worked with, show 80%+ efficencies, It means that for a 1hp power at motor's axle, It's electrical power demand Will be 746 watts ÷ 0,80=932 watts. I think you can expect a 5% efficency increase for PM motors. Thus, a 1hp at axle, electrical demand Will be 746 watts ÷ 0,85 = 877 watts.

Very true. If you wanted to drive with dc voltage, you could use DC voltage. You would not have disrupted the optimized structure of the engine. You could achieve a constant magnetic field by separating the serial connection of the coils in the satator and driving them with DC. Universal motors are very good motors. Still, nice work. Thanks. Greetings from Turkey.

If you remove the excitation winding, there is no possibility of regulation or direction of rotation. You need to make a controlled DC power supply. Permanent magnets lose their effect over time. That's why the solution with the excitation coils is the best. In addition, these commutator synchronous motors are universal - they also work on DC without any modifications.
