    I'm amazed to see nobody talking about keys. Whilst somewhat recent compared to a lot of these points, it was such a contentious topic, and it really led to anti-climactic moments where you were just playing your game and then suddenly the game ends because the survivors all grouped up and decided to leave.

  • @MrPendalv

    @MrPendalv

    Yes, exactly. Keys were the biggest cheese in the game. You saw a key in lobby and instantly knew that this will be a sweatfest of tunneling key holder and trying to snowball dirty as possible, because - they could just hide key somewhere to prevent any camping of it or tunneling of its holder, also they could find hatch on the map before it spawns, due to collision, and then all leave together when 1 gen remained and they are 4 alive. Matches against key abusers were so horrible, and they were so toxic and salty, every time they failed to cheese. They dared to whine about tunneling and camping while their gameplan was to skip their last objective and the gates, just straight up forward escape

To get the 4 man hatch escape (which was an achievement that was quite rare to have too) you needed all 5 gens. The 2-3 man hatch escapes were very annoying though.

    I started playing in 2016 (don't remember exactly when but it was before the nurse came out), I think the only reason the game's flaws didn't show as much back then was because barely anybody knew what they were doing. I was dropping pallets when the killer was across the map because I thought you were supposed to set them up as a barricade in case the killer came, crouching in the corner for minutes at a time because the killer could be near, hiding in a locker as soon as you hear the terror radius, being too terrified to go for saves, always trying to escape the hook just because the option was available. If I was in a chase I would just drop every pallet, and if I had self care I would do the classic maneuver of healing in the corner while my teammates die because being injured is too scary Also totally random note, i remember playing a game on gideon meat plant against a hillbilly, and the map was PITCH BLACK there was no global lighting, only lights in the map itself. It was actually super cool, you pretty much had to go by the generator lights and random light bulbs. Not sure if it was a moonlight offering but it was really cool

    You guys forgot the old PWYF + Tinkerer killer power interaction! Back in the day, especially during the Huntress' release, you could run both windup addons in addition to Tinkerer increasing the numbers even further. You would also have PERMANENT 15% increased movement speed from PWYF (assuming you're limiting yourself to using the power only). This was also called the machine gun Huntress build. It was absolutely busted.

    Otz failed to talk about original decisive strike. Original decisive strike was whenever a killer picks up a survivor. The survivor will immediately escape killer grasp stunning the killer for 2/3/4 seconds. there was no skill-check. there was no timer. there was no hook condition. This was possibly most powerful perk in dbd history because it gave you 4 hook-states. This was also paired with old BT which granted endurance to both survivors upon unhooking and old DH. Self-care+DH+BT+DS was strongest that survivors have ever been. Self-care healed you in 24 seconds. DH was overpowered and did not get nerfed until 6.1.0. Borrow time was nerfed to not grant both survivors endurance and decisive strike had at least 4 reworks before it was balanced.

  • @Predated2

    @Predated2

    11 ай бұрын

    @@dodang_9147 Funny how you talk about busted survivor perks only, but even then most those perks were only busted due to having multiple perks available. Dying Light alone could win entire games. Killers like Billy and Nurse didnt need any slots to win games. You were not considered a good Billy or a good Nurse unless you could play perkless and addonless. And that is taking the survivor perks in consideration too. Not talking about Tinkerer, NOED, Unrelenting+STBFL(if you ran NOED + these 2 you would basically have 0.5 seconds attack cooldown on hits and 0.6 attack cooldown on misses, it was nuts). You can always talk about one specific side being absolutely busted, but you have to realize that the average killrate of red rank killers was 3+. I remember literally running full meme builds on Myers and still getting 3k's against decent teams. The only times I would lose was due to the map being extremely survivorsided(old haddonfield being the only guaranteed loss on meme Myers). DBD was a clusterfuck, and while I do wish it would go back sometimes, just so you could go into a match, bring some random build and still do well, I would only hope that happens if they disabled some heavily abusable things(Mori's were literally free wins, even with all the other things considered. It was relatively easy to get 1 hook before 2 gens were done)

    This is a late response, but when the Ash DLC came out, the Nurse didn't give MoM stacks with blinks as a result of a bug. Other perks worked fine with blink attacks working as M1's, but it was specifically MoM that didnt work for a time. They fixed it in an update afterwards so Nurse players didn't care about MoM for awhile and only started caring after the fix.

    One of the things that triggers me the most is people saying that old DBD looked more scary and immersive, this to me is the proof these people have no idea what they are talking about and that they didn't play the game at all at the time or they already forgot how it really was back in the days and are only talking because of nostalgia... Sure the maps look more atmospheric but that's because devs didn't care about balancement at all, it was almost impossible to see players hiding in plain sight in some corners of the maps, the dark atmosphere was an attempt to hide the (at the time) very low graphic that was very outdated even at the time, the animations were all clunky, even the most basic ones like running were super goofy and badly looped, the "maps" were literally all the same thing except one was dark blue and the other was dark orange, the terrain of each map was all scattered and not smooth like now meaning Trapper's traps would sometimes not even be in reachable areas if you got bad RNG and got them to spawn under ground, speaking of which, you could actually place them literally under the ground sometimes because it was inconsistent af, the game looked "better" because it was worse and they had to use lightning to hide problems and this costed a lot in terms of gameplay basically, you could barely play if the room wasn't dark enough, it looked like that one Game of Thrones episode that was infamous because how hard it was to see, you could use offerings to make already darker maps even darker or make them more bright revealing several problems in texture, and all of this ONLY when it comes to visual stuff, let's not get started on gameplay stuff ugh... The game did a wonderful job with the graphical update and balancement over the years, while still not perfect (what is perfect by definition in an asymetrical game?) It's undeniable how much better it is nowdays, people saying otherwise are just blinded by nostalgia or are purposely ignoring the problems above, in which case anyone would obviously say that a dark atmosphere fits better for an horror game, duh!

    Truthfully I agree with Runningman. The hex NOED that had no aura was pretty damn awesome. When I saw it as a survivor I would laugh with FEAR knowing the game could end in no time flat. Now when I think of NOED I think of finding a hiding spot and letting the aura spread and then it’s found with ease. I miss that spice that it used to give to the game, and it made the last few minutes as tense as possible

    one of the greatest quality of life changes was the rework of the hook struggling. That old one was so annoying i used to get cramps in my hand from spamming the struggle button and if you messed up for a millisecond you were instantly dead.

    To add to the old ruin conversation; toolboxes used to have a hell of a lot more charges, and would last for multiple gens, which made the addon that eliminates skill checks kinda viable against the whole ruin meta.

    One thing I will always associate with old DBD are pallet vacuums. It was so broken idk how it was around for so long. Same with permanent hook breaks! Back when you basically needed to run iron grasp agitation since so many SWF would break all the hooks and you only had basement as an option

    What I miss is the experience and how I felt. I miss loading into a map, hearing Freddys lullaby and subsequently panic becouse I was scared becouse if he found me he could see me from anywhere on the map. I miss playing as killer and enjoying the dark atmosphere and chasing survivors without having to worry about meta perks, controlling gens and keeping track of hook stages. I miss useing perks I found funny and not perks I find strong. I miss prestige cosmetics being something special. I miss the simpler days...

    I apologize in advance for how long this comment is. I have played the game since launch and there are a decent amount of things that didn't get mentioned in the video. At the very release of the game, when hooks could be sabo'd permanently, trapper's traps could also be sabo'd permanently. Also, if you had a toolbox, you could sabo traps without even disarming them. Spamming m1 while being chased would snap to the disarm animation for any traps in range, so it was super easy to avoid them. Small game was a perk before totems were introduced too, and it used to just show the aura of trapper traps to survivors within a range of 6 meters which made traps even easier to avoid. Flashlights used to have instablind add-ons that increased the speed at which you blinded the killer. This was so fast that you could aim a flashlight at them mid chase when they weren't even locked in an animation and blind them. It was so fast that you couldn't react to it. Also, shadowborn used to make your vision brighter, but also increase the speed you got blinded by flashlights. This stacked with the instablind flashlight speed, so you would get blinded in like a millisecond. Many killers used to run shadowborn because maps were darker and it made finding survivors a lot easier. Another interesting thing was borrowed time on release. It would only activate once per game and you had to be in the killers terror radius, but it would protect both the person being unhooked AND the person who unhooked them. If you managed to save it until endgame, it was a free escape for both people. Also, before deep wound existed, the borrowed time meter could not be mended. It had to be healed like a health state. This meant that if you didn't have self care or someone to heal you, you would just go down after the timer ran out. The timer would also not pause during any action like deep wound does now, so it allowed the killer to tunnel you and you would still die after a set amount of time. I think the bleed out timer was around 40 seconds so it still bought a lot of time. Also, when Decisive Strike was first added, it was not an obsession perk. Every survivor in a match could use it the first time they were picked up without needing to wiggle at all. If you did not press spacebar at all to hit the skill check, you could use it later, but if you pressed spacebar and missed the skill check, it would disable the perk. They then changed it to the obsession thing where non-obsession survivors had to wiggle for a bit. Another thing that used to be crazy was sprint burst and balanced landing. On release, sprint burst had a 20 second cooldown and would recharge at full speed while sprinting. Every 20 seconds in chase, a survivor would keep activating sprint burst. They nerfed it to a 20 second cooldown and made it recharge at 50% speed while running, so it would take 80 seconds to recharge in chase. Then, when nea was added, they added balanced landing. Exhaustion was not a status effect, and these two perks had separate cooldowns independent of one another, so you could use both of them at once. You could sprint burst up a hill, fall of the hill, then get the balanced landing speed boost right after. Jungle gyms used to have a window spawn on both the short wall and long wall at the same time. All pallet loops that can have a pallet at one spot or another spot would instead spawn both pallets every time. This included both pallets at the double window jungle gyms. Wraith used to get deviousness points just for uncloaking near survivors without hitting them, so many wraith players would hook you and then sit at the hook cloaking and uncloaking for points. There are so many other things that I am probably forgetting. While the game used to have a lot of problematic things, I kind of liked how much more wild things were. There was crazy broken stuff on both sides and I think it would be fun to go back and play older builds for a bit to re-experience them.

    Silent spirit was the most fun I had in the game. I got bullied endlessly for over a year by the most organized four man teams clicking flashlights in the open and T bagging at every pallet. Then, this absolute monster of an add on came out and I felt like I was watching those same teams have meltdowns now that they don’t have all the power. 10/10 would recommend.

    I’ve been playing this game since early in its beta. The memories of each of these eras are…a lot. Regardless that is was so broken, early dbd is something I’ll miss solely because of that. I hope they can release something that would allow us to experience it again but with maybe some things added to not make it literally impossible for killers or survivors to win.

    One thing I miss from old DBD: Stealth used to be more viable than it is today, because the game was darker and had taller and more dense grass. Two things I don't miss about old DBD: Old ruin and old dead hard. They were a bother for people more experienced in the game, but would completely destroy intermediate/casual players most of the time. They were not the worst, like the old Mori, but they "flew under the radar" of the devs for SO long...

    20:58 I have been a hardcore Legion fan ever since they were first made a 115%, and until a few months before 5th hit got implemented, everyone thought Legion sucked, or were terrified. That first iteration was horrible, but Legion was pretty good afterwards. Nobody could call you toxic or sweaty, even, because you just destroyed them with a supposedly D tier (Actually low B) killer. Their playstyle also became very rewarding and fun, especially after 5th hit and Pills. First Legion was very traumatizing tho

    This video has moved me to July 2016 when I just started playing Dead by daylight. I haven't seen so much flashbacks yet. Flashbacks with everything I've experienced for 7 years. Thank you Otz, Cope and RunningMan. In addition to the video, I can remember the time period when you could unhook the survivor from the hook only on the front side. The Trapper could put a trap right under the hook and be sure that no one will unhook the survivor. I can also remember hook tech (hook break could be performed at a small distance from the hook, which instantly teleported survivor to the hook, allowing him to dodge the hit). And how about common and uncommon map offerings? The rope on Pale Rose is still in my inventory. Most of all I miss accelerating perks with own timer without fatigue and old models. I still think that old Kate and Lunar Feng skin models was better than now.
