16km in the Mournes | Cove Mountain, Slieve Beg & Slievelamagan | Hiking & Trekking

A fabulous sunrise greeted us as we set off on our 16km hike through the Mourne Mountains. We ticked off Slieve Beg, Cove Mountain and Slievelamagan, also have a look at the most “dangerous trail” in the range.

It was an absolutely cracking morning☀The Devil's Coach Road is definitely doable and worth doing at least once👍 That central part of the Mournes with Beg, Cove and Lamagan is one of the best I think. Lovely views from the summit of Slieve Lamagan over the rest of the Mournes.

It definitely was a cracker morning Gerry, so much we had thought of maybe doing Binnian as well. Yea I really enjoy the central mournes as well, especially down in the valley parts looking up at the peaks. But it was nice to do Lamagan on a sunny day, definitely great views. Cheers for watching 👍

Superb hike and video, Geoff, well done. James and I were up there last week, video out soon, but we did the same 3 peaks from Trassey mostly in the wind and rain. We stood above the Devil's Coachroad and thought the summit of Slieve Beg was the rock above it so we went up there in the mist not knowing the steep falls on all sides! Ignorance was bliss. Because of the wind, the route you took up Cove Mountain looked hairy so we skirted to the right and took the easy path up. Lamigan is not my favourite mountain either probably because of the descent that has no path. However, like you we got the amazing 360 views. We then went down to Ben Crom Dam, intending to climb Ben Crom Mountain as well, but couldn't find a trail at all to headed past Doan through a swamp, then past the gap between Meelmore and Bernagh and back to car - 13 miles!!! Sorry for the long note but I always say that the Mournes is the hardest mountain walking we experience, mainly due to the lack of proper paths - they are proper hard core!! We're off to Wales next week for more adventures. Regards, Ashley

Thank you for Watching and commenting. That would have been some walk yous done alright. Funny we where actually talking about the trails in the mournes compared to ones in England, over there they all seem well pathed out but here like you say sometimes you could be going through the bogs. We have toyed with Ben crom mountain this weekend but it’s not giving great weather for that route so it’s back to the drawing board. Yes I heard that yous are for Wales I really look forward to seeing that plus the next video in the mournes 👍.

Love that route in the mournes, has so much to offer. Brilliant day you had for it! We chickened out of doing the coach road 1st time but have done it a few times since. Theres a gully you can climb up the side of Cove, we find it a bit more sketchy than DCR but fun none the less. Cove cave makes a lovely spot for brakfast too. Keep up the good work, maybe see you out there some day!

Yea I definitely enjoy the central Mournes and even in the valleys looking up at the peaks. The DCR is doable and hopefully the next time that way we will get up it. I did notice that gully on cove and too be fair it looks worse. Hopefully could get a camp up that way and get a bit of breakfast on cove. Cheers for watching its much appreciated 👍.

@@GeoffGreenawayOutdoors the cave in Percy is great. Check out @StephenJReid for his attempt at sleeping in it. Not sure the ground above it is flat enough to pitch on. Brilliant camping down the at the river in the valley if you wanted somewhere close to it
