(166) IL-2 How to Maintain the Energy Advantage in a Dogfight - Essential Considerations

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In a dogfight, bravery and the will to fight are no match for understanding the dynamic forces in effect on your aircraft in flight. Lift, drag, thrust and weight all compete with gravity to rob you of the essential energy you need to maintain to survive a dogfight. In this video we look at how best to maintain your energy and not bleed it off unnecessarily.

As a newcomer to the game, honestly your videos have been by and large the most useful. I've been so lost and overwhelmed as a combat sim newcomer, but your bite-sized guides have been a revelation. Absolutely criminal how you don't have more views!

Thank you, Silver. Much appreciate you taking the time to comment. Yes, the learning curve is great and at the highest level some of the top players are absolutely outstanding. But each one was in the same place as you feel you are in now. Tell you what, how would you like to fly together on a multiplayer server and I'll see where you're at? If you have the basics under control the best place to learn is with a sqn. Everyone is keen to teach and the game is so very much more fun when you work with others. Best to log into discord.com/ the main in game comms channel. Find me on the main IL-2 community discord, send me a friend request. We can go from there. Don't feel intimidated. If you really want to improve your skills and emersion dramatically... let me know! Cheers

This was a very informative video! Thank you! So is the point that your dogfights are basically a diving attack, break off and climb back up to do it all over again? I know when I was fighting Migs in my F4, I had the power advantage. So whenever I found myself in a turning fight or out numbered, I would just burn my way out of the fight and then turn, come back and and reengage. I found I had pretty good luck with this. But piston-engine fighting seems different. The thrust to weight ratio is much smaller. It seems when I break a turning fight, I end up presenting my tail to my enemy and with the minor differences between say an F4U and a Zero or a P-51 and a late model 109, I can't seem to earn an edge. If I get away, it's just dumb luck. I guess I just don't know the rules very well in this area. Could you, if you haven't already, make small video on best practices to disengage or better yet turn the fight in your favor? Again, great video! Thank you for sharing!

Let me qualify this by saying I am NOT a fighter pilot. I understand the aerodynamic concepts as presented but there are far better references for the actual tactical methods to employ. Every single situation will be different, requiring a unique approach. But in essence, in real life, you are always going to strike with the advantage. If you don't have the advantage you will avoid combat. But this is a game where our brovado is great and our fear is nil and dying merely means respawning. There should be no dumb-luck if you plan your attack well. Another aspect is that there is safety in numbers if everyone is on the same page. Someone has your six and you have theirs, but it does not replace a failing energy state.

@@colninny8769 That's all theoretically true, but of course there are real life limitations like lack of awareness, fear, information overload, etc. Many planes got shot down from the rear without noticing the enemy and pilot testimony shows that WW II dogfighting nearly always descended into each for their own. One pilot was utterly amazed when he got a wingman that actually stayed with him during the fight, which he never experienced before. Of course, with modern planes this is much better due to better technology and training.

I be glide if some make video how you place enemy vs conopy when turn fight or when and why and how use lag, pure or lead trajectory. To save the energy you must stay in lag or pure pursuit, if you have litl disadvantege you can make reversal and make hard to kill you but you give up :) . speciali if you see enemy on your long six thats be grat video to explain how make reversal how you use "lift vector" viz wher you put "lift vector" vs enemy. tnx S! and happy new year
