My friend's dog always turns his back to me to ask for a back rub, so I reckon we're friends.

Actually, if you get a new pup, TOUCH HIS FOOD. Let him know that you won’t steal it, when the pup’s small touch his food while he eats so when he’s an adult he won’t attack you if he sees you near his food as he will know you won’t take it away from him. If you let him get used to dominating his food and not letting anyone near it, he will become aggressive when it comes to food.

Thanks for this comment. I have only had 2 dogs in my lifetime. 1 a boxer who lived to be 12 and I now own a 1 year old Alaskan malamute. When they were puppies I always touched their food and would pet them.

A lot of times after I start petting my dog she licks her lips and squints her eyes with a happy face. I think that means she likes it. It's hard for me to use these pointers with my dog because she was raised in a house full of cats before she came to me and it certainly shows in her behavior lol. I love her all the same though

Yes! A dog should never growl when the owner, the alpha (hopefully), approaches. There are a lot of great ways to prevent and curb food aggression-- humanely.

Both my dogs are the same way. My older dog r takes thyroid medications and sometimes I forget to put it in her bowl right away and I add it while she's eating and there's no problem. She has Standing up ears & my younger dog has floppy ears so I've learned to know what they mean by whether their ears are turned in or pulled back etc.

Jillian J My dog does this as well does that thing with his teeth but shows no aggression its always after i get done after a long day of just not being home. Could this be a sign of happiness. There is a very big difference from rhis compared to when he sees someone ride up in the yard when hes barking and growling plus the way he shows his teeth is completely different shape wise.

My mom had adopted 25 street dog ..and now they were in our house for last 8 years ...some die and some gave birth to new puppies . So our dog average is 25 all time ....and my mom can understand all needs of dogs for ex when the are hungry ,when they want to go for walk , when they are sick ,when they want to play....all small needs ..and she take care of all ....and we feel a very positive energy in our home by having dogs ....

This video was interesting and the cartoons were good examples of the explanation, but I think it could've been a bit more helpful if it included a short video showing off a real dog doing the suggested action as well. But all in all, it's a great video!

My dog passed away last month, I still miss her...

He followed me around wagging his tail with a ball on his mouth, he barks the bikers during our road trips, & loves my hand patting his eyes before going to sleep. & he mind the shower room while I’m in it. Truly delightful best bud 🌟

I tested out the one with yawn and as soon as I did it he did it my dog and I yelled for him to come over here and he jumped up in the chair with me turned his back towards me and right after that the video said that it means they trust you a lot and he's your best friend I'm pleased

I love my baby

My dog is oliver. Once he put his paw up on my knee and looked straight in the eye. Its supposed to mean im in charge. It actually worked!! Also, Also i had a dog when i was a baby he saved my baby life bc i went in the road without my parents knowing, and when my dog saw me he snached me and ran back. I will never stop saying thank you to him in dog heaven💙💙🐶🐶

Clairen fine I'm sorry ur dog died And Ik that doggy Heaven and other Animals Heaven is real because then they save u in times of need because my bunny died and I was sad because she always made me happy and I still when I think about her I still cry..But I will never forget her..she also had other baby bunnies who also died at young age😢😢(Amen R.I.P. I miss u so much Amy)She has lots of friends in Animal Heaven and lives a better life I'm sure 😢😢☺🐇🐇(But now I'm happy again cause I have a cute baby 1 year old green parrotlet named Hope and a husky named Harmony)I will never forget...and I'm sorry if anyone else in the comments lost any pets, but they live in a better place(🐇🐶🐱🐭🐥🐐🐂🐮🐣🐏🐴))😊😇😇😇💖🐺🐺💙💙

(My husky is 1 year old too although my parrotlet is older than her but she's a bird lol so my husky has a older little 'sister" and my parrotlet has a younger bigger "sister" it's so confusing POPOPOPOPO_0LOL😂😂😂😂😂💖😜😜💙💚💚💙

Showing teeth doesn't always mean bad. Some dogs are very smiley when they're happy or exited. My dog always do this really teethy grin when familiar people come to our home or I'm getting ready to go for a walk with her or when we do something fun together like learn new tricks. But always ask from an owner if you wanna approach a dog showing teeth and wagging its tail because all dogs are different and the owner knows best what's the dogs mood at that moment.

alex My Canaan Dog was very aware that showing teeth is a sign of aggression, so she figured out that by showing only her bottom teeth she could smile without the threat.

My puppie's Mama ( No not being racial or "Gendercist" Here. I still call my Mama mama... So nigh!.. ) also does that teeth grin thing, but she isn't being dominate, And my puppie's brother also does that. I hardly ever even see my puppy do that I think. Or at all.. I only saw it twice. the other 2 do it Wayyy more often I think. I'm not sure. XD.

alex Especially Dalmatians. People often mistake their smiles for growls.

When my dog want attention she'll sit next to me and stare at me. When I look at her she'll look away for a second then look back like 'Noooo I wasn't looking, why are you looking??' Then she'll put her paw on me. This may have previously been a dominant thing but she's learnt that when she does that she's given attention so now she does the looking away thing again. She's my pride and joy so I probably will pet her. If I stop petting she'll put her head under my whatever arm is closest and force my arm up and walk until my hand is on her head. It's adorable really.

Dont wrap your hand around the dog's neck and try to pull it in for a "hug". Dogs dont like that and the dog in the video is clearly tolerating her.

*****​ She didn't say the dog feels "challenged", he simply tolerates her. And that's true. Scientifically proven: dogs don't like hugs. Then every dog lets you do it but if they don't move or react it doesn't mean they agree to it, they're simply patient 'cause they love you

Amanda Forde it honestly depends I had a dog that hated hugging but my current dog loves it... yah he paws at you to pet him and hug him.... has super sharp claws also.... hurts.

it really depends on the dog. but the only people who should do so is the dog's owner. of course a dog isnt gonna be cool with getting hugged by people they are unfamiliar with.

my dad taught my dog to not over react when her food is taken away, so if a little kid takes it away for some reason she doesn't attack. she also lets people per her when she eats. all she does is follow you where you go with the food.

Monica Gallo You had to teach your dog that? For mine that came innately. The only thing we had to teach her was how to take treats from peoples hands without accidentally injuring them.
