    1:03 OK, let's check. Black has played bxa6, cxb, dxexf, fxgxh, which is 6 captures, nearly matching White's 7 missing pieces. Legal with just a little wiggle room! It's the sort of weird pawn structure you'd only find in a retroanalytical problem.

  • @christopherheckman7957

    @christopherheckman7957

    Жыл бұрын

    And it doesn't appear that all of White's captures had to occur on (say) white-colored squares. Otherwise, there aren't too many captures, but the position would still be impossible.

  • @christopherheckman7957
    @christopherheckman7957 Жыл бұрын

    7:42 That's almost a symmetric position. I suspect that the composer tried to shift half of the kingside pieces to create complete symmetry, but it didn't work for some reason.

    At 4:55 why move the black king down? If you go up and over the 8th rank, the king doesn't get trapped and can capture the passed pawn.

  • @seandechant9756

    @seandechant9756

    That was my first thought as well. Can't see a reason why that wouldn't work. Either C7 or C8. White king is still frozen so you'd have to move the pawns and probably wind up with the pawns on the left frozen, then have to move the G pawn forward and get it captured.

    Challenge suggestion: Overpowered King Chess You have to make a king move with checkmate WITHOUT getting check once. and plus there should be a single piece that Martin or Nelson still has on the board. And a lonely king still in the board doesn't count as a single piece left on the board, Only a Queen, Rook, Knight, And Bishop But NO pawns. Difficulty: Super hard

    It could have come from an actual game. The black f pawn originated on the d file, the black g pawn started on the f file and the two pawns on the h file are from g and h files. It is weird, but should be legal, barring a truly bizzare detail somewhere that needs a detailed analysis.

    Six of white’s pieces needed to be taken by black’s pawns to create that position. Likewise, four of black’s pieces needed to be taken by white’s pawns. Possible, but unusual.

  • @kevindegryse9750

    @kevindegryse9750

    9 ай бұрын

    @@animedbz20 no, because most captures are followed by recapture just after. This is what a normal game looks like. Yes, there is tactics and sometime this is not the case. But no recapture at all on each and every pawn capture is very very VERY unlikely. This can happen if both player have a plan and play together to reach a position, but this is not playing chess. Maybe I'm not good enough at chess to understand that a good game of chess could lead to this position. But honestly, it seemed not natural to Nelson who is way better than me, this could give you the feeling I'm right, except if you'r very good and could find an honest game of chess to even approach this position. Just a high lvl game with 8 pawns left after all this material missing could convince me.
