16 Hours In Kyrgyzstan's Worst Shared Taxi...

From Bishkek to Osh. Kyrgyzstan's two biggest cities don't seem too far apart when you look on a map, but, the road between the two is a bendy mountain road that then circles the border with Uzbekistan once reaching the Fergana Valley. A journey between the two can be made by flight in less than 1 hour, or in 12 hours by shared taxi! Needless to say, we chose the cheaper Shared Taxi. Whether this was the correct decision or not, we aren't quite sure.

What an adventure! I think I know your next route as I took a similar path from Bishkek to Uzbekistan, except that I chose to fly to Osh instead of taking the marshrutka. A taxi to the Kyrgyz/Uzbekistan border then to Andijan before taking an old Soviet train to Tashkent and then a high speed rail from Tashkent to Samarkand and Bukhara was quite an experience for me so I can’t wait to see what’s next with you two!

hilarious! But as I said , the misadventures on travel is always the most memorable ones. I do take public utility vehicles too where Im completely stranger TO TASTE how do the majority of locals goes. And its one of the best ones of knowing their daily life & culture , although it takes discomfort sometimes.

I can believe the two of you were completely bummed out after that journey... 🤦‍♂️ Two of my pet peeves... Sitting still, waiting, not knowing when "it" will happen and secondly being a passenger in a vehicle with an ill and tired (and fed up!) driver at night 😨😨 So glad you made it intact and even retained your sense of humour in the process!

Absolutely blows me away how cheap the journey was! Just the cost of the gas (petrol) alone would have been so much for a 12 hour journey, let alone any money left over to pay the driver or any other car operating costs. Made for a great video anyway.

I'd posted on one of your Ukraine videos that I'll be in Ukraine in November. The U.S. State Department wrecked our plan yesterday. Level 4 - Do Not Travel ban. Turkish Airlines is kind enough to allow us to use the credit by the end of May. So I'm hopeful. Until then, I'll continue to go with you two. God keep you safe.

Aah, I feel the pain of waiting for the shared taxi to fill up! I was the first person to get in one in Georgia (in Signhagi, maybe? I can't remember...) and there was another one next to mine... wouldn't you know in the end, that one filled up first! I was a little annoyed at the drivers for not communicating better, because I'm pretty sure the price was the same. Luckily my taxi filled up less than 30 minutes later, but yeah -- put me off the whole shared taxi culture for sure!

  • @MattandJulia

Oh yeah, I can imagine how annoying it was. Sometimes people book their seats on shared taxis in Georgia few or one day ahead, so just think that everyone booked their seats, will make it less annoying 😁 Thankfully your car filled up quickly afterwards though!
