KUSHTIA, BANGLADESH - During our trip to Kushtia we spent an entire day home cooking… and it was one of the greatest food days of our trip to Bangladesh. Not only in Bangladesh, but all around the world, the greatest food experiences are often home cooking. Today we’re cooking an all out Bangladeshi fish feast from morning to night!
When you think about Bangladeshi food, you might think about the rich goat and beef dishes, but really, the most common of all foods that’s consumed daily is fish and rice. Bangladesh is blessed with an abundance of river, and seas, and fish is common around the country. So today, we’re focusing the entire day on eating Bangladeshi fish dish specialties. In the morning we had day old fermented rice with ilish, the national fish of Bangladesh. Then we went to the Kushtia market and especially headed to the fish market section to buy a variety of different fish to cook for lunch and dinner.
Aunty is such an amazing cook, she’s the person you want to be cooking for you when you’re in Kushtia! I loved how she’s so natural at cooking, from the look in her eyes you can tell that she enjoys cooking and the joy it brings to others.
One of my favorite dishes of the entire trip, in all of Bangladesh, is ilish fish cooked with fresh mustard paste and mustard oil. It’s like mustard on top of mustard and the pungent flavor is so incredibly tasty when smashed into rice.
Another incredibly special day of Bangladeshi food in Bangladesh. Thank you to Rasif’s family for the incredibly warm hospitality and delicious food!

I can honestly say that Bangladesh has some of the best food in the world. The flavours are out of the world. The vegetables and spices are so rich because the soil is the most fertile in the world. The food is literally grown from the sediments deposited from the Himalayas. You can't beat that. And some of the fruits and spices can not be found anywhere else.

These differ depending on the areas you visit and seasonal availability. Not to mention the different chicken, mutton, goat and beef dishes… 👍👍👍

To all the people saying he should go to this district or that..absolutely right. Bangladesh is an outstanding food hub for any food bloggers...Mark Wiens is the best among them...His host has taken a smart approach of taking Mark to his known places for this time around and giving Mark the full exposure of what he (the host) knows well. Mark was in Bangladesh before Ramadan and for a few days. That is why they were quite selective. I think we have open a door for Mark to come again to Bangladesh for few more times to experience our amazing country. Because our food varies not only from district to district but from season to season also. This is a good start for Mark and hope to see him many more times in our hospitable country. I think this is only the beginning for Mark in Bangladesh.

Not only the ingredients are amazing, but the ways and techniques of cooking that come from years of experiences and know-hows,,, I really enjoyed this video. When it will be once again easier to travel, I would love to visit Bangladesh and get to know the culture! Thank you so much for this amazing video!

A couple of interesting facts about the rivers & fishes of Bangladesh: There are 700+ rivers in Bangladesh, the most in any country. if you go to google map and watch a satellite view you'll see that the river system of Bangladesh is like a very intricate vein-like pattern on the earth. Bangladesh itself is also the biggest natural delta in the world, resulting in great biodiversity for freshwater fishes. Because of that, 90% of the fish Bangladeshi people consume are freshwater fish. In terms of preparing fish, we mostly cut fish into steaks rather than doing fillet or butterfly like in the west. Also "boneless fish dishes" are very rare in Bangladesh because we specialize in eating fish with bones and everything :P nice vid as always.

I normally don't watch full food vlogs from any Bangladeshi or from any foreigner on Bangladeshi food because all look the same. But for the first time, I am in love with these series and am watching all the Bangladeshi series of Mark again and again. It looks so genuine and simple. Thank you Petuk couple for arranging everything, especially this Kushtia series. That effortless and straightforward simplicity represents that part of Bangladesh.

I think Mark is very happy to come in Bangladesh. Because Mark has never made so many videos about food of any country as much as he has made about Bangladeshi food.He has made about 7/8 videos about Bangladeshi food.As a Bangladeshi, I am proud of my country's food.

Beautiful Bangladeshi people and food once again. But, Mark, I can't help notice that once again, you called a goose a giant duck. You did the same thing up in the Arctic circle. I want to go to Bangladesh and eat all their food. Love the joy of the people and their love for their cultural food. Yummy.

I'm following your Bangladesh series from the beginning. If you look around, you can find lots of renowned food bloggers visited Bangladesh in last few years. They followed a trend, tasted a set of dishes...visiting old Dhaka, try some festival dishes like biriyani, mejban etc. Though you have shown those, you are also introducing variety of day to day dishes of Bangladesh. This is something new and amazing. Love and respect for you, man. We should also give a thank to petuk couple and their gang. ❤️

To say i was shocked to see the title Bangladesh in your video, believe me it's an honor for us Bangladeshis to have you in our country tasting the unique flavor of our food. Thankyou so for coming in Bangladesh and representing our country

I live in Assam, Northeast India and these fish dishes are just like how we cook them maybe our ancestors borrowed the dishes from them , but i was in awe as the recipes and food habits are exactly the same. Even with Bengalis in India there can be slight differences but with Bangladesh its the same so nice to see. I was drooling at the Elish maach , its my favourite 😋😋😋

All of Mark's food videos are great, but this is one of the ones where I want to jump in there, roll up my sleeves, and ask the auntie to show me how to do what she's doing. Fish and mustard seed/oil is one of the best combinations on earth.

Bangladeshi hospitality is incomparable to any. Even if you go the Bengal part of India you will be surprised to see how dry they're. Bangladeshi people become the happiest when they can make the guest happy. And refusal to eat is actually an insult for the host, in that case you're a great guest. 😁

  • @02CRN

yes @Brown_shark, i have just realised that you are so right. If I refute to eat the food that someone offered me, then it is considered a little bit rude in here. My Mom and sister love to cook when guests come over to our place. if the guest don't try any specific dish, then they feel like the food was not good enough for the guest. Complement the food some made for you is, the best thing you can do as a guest ☺☺☺☺
