@@shroomyesc True, the platform was not dedicated to commercial vehicles, but the already rudimentary standards for comfort and quality the first A-class showed have been further reduced for the Vaneo. Higher center of gravity, sliding doors and crashy cargo-defying rear axle were the opposite of what the A-class needed to improve refinement.

Must say, the effort that Edwin put into the Vaneo was absolutely fabulous, would enjoy again 10/10

To be fair most DIY campervans of this size can cost less than half of that price lol. And you can customize it exactly the way you want and learn few things on the way how to build stuff. I'm all about campervanning altho I don't do it myself, but I definitely would stay away from buying this expensive campervan and rather just build my own.

@@rowdy6274 I agree. Wouldn't want to speed 100K on a campervan when I can move from hotels and live like a baller. The entire idea about campervans if you ask me is to live on a budget. For 100K you could literally buy small apartments in some areas, and paying that much for a van as much as versitile it can be its quite a lot to spend on. I would rather build my own van for like 30K which I believe its quite possible and live with that, and it might even be better than this pre-built van here.

@@royliber3824 Absolutely, you could also spent like 30.000€ and get a nice Touring car to move from hotel to hotel. Did a tour through the alps once doing exactly that (even tho the car I've owned wasn't even sporty, only light with big tires for it's size) and it was sooo great. I think spending even 30k on a camper is already a lot, for me camping loses it's charme when it has roughly the same comfort levels a hotel has, but for way more money. In Germany you can get old postal service T5s for a little less than 5000€, they're already stripped, so if I wanted to have a camper it'd just get one of these, throw a few grand into it and have an alright camper for a tenth of that Sprinter. But I don't, if I'm getting a vehicle that's just going to stand around for 90% of the year, I'd rather be getting a classic car

I myself own a 2001 Vaneo, 1.6 petrol engine, my father bought it more than 7 years ago and used it almost everyday (Including patisserie product deliveries with it), and for more than 1 year I've been using it myself, with less than 160.000km on board, it runs like a hot knife through butter, it's great, never had any major issues with it, the only thing I've changed were consumables like filters and oil change, nothing else. And the engine, it's an old Mercedes Engine afterall, they're unbreakable.

I bumped into Alex at a service station the other week, I'm guessing on his way home from filming this, and I did think he looked a bit grouchy, now I understand why 😂 poor guy.

It's great to see Alex back once in a while. And I was laughing my ass of when Alex was playing harmonica for Jack 😂😂

Yeah because we all thought you know I've never compared a 100,000 pound camper van against the car /minivan 😂

Last year I went camping in my VW Passat Alltrack. I put down a foldable mattress that doubled up as a comfy chair when folded up. I swear to god, it was almost as comfy as my expensive as hell bed at home. I have never slept so well while camping in my life. Now I'm thinking about buying a dual axel trailer and building up a small camper with the folding mattress as my bed. Best 100 or so Euro I have ever spent on any camping equipment.

Well let me tell you this is the best summary of differences between different styles of camping cars and I’ve seen many camper videos! “This is the worst experience I’ve had in a car, and I’ve crashed cars” hilarious 😂

My dad also had a Mercedes Vaneo. He bought it from an elderly couple which actually used it as an camper van. They build a structure in the boot so they have an even space to sleep when the middle seats are folded down. So you could build a decent mini camper van. Apart from that the Vaneo is not a nice car with a big rust issue and a loud ticking petrol engine which is normal as a Mercedes workshop told us

I can't be the only one to find these guys to have a genuine 'Top Gear' feeling, and I read a lot of great ideas in the comments. However, since those challenges tend to be quite expensive, how about we as a community raise a budget for them to make a video (and more importantly: a horrible, hilarious car) of?

The sprinter looks like its had about £5,000 spent on it and thats if you include the awning and charged a couple of hundred an hour for fitting it out. Folks are mugs at the minute if paying £100,000 for that piece of fashion... The rear doors arent even fully lined... that will be fun come the morning dew... and looks cheep as

Love the vids, love how all the boys are equal now like the top gear days, whereas back in the day alex was always trying to be the leader

I'm sure the DIY camper would be fine for a weekend or weeklong trip, but the Luxury camper is better suited if you plan on living in a van, although I'm not sure I would pay $100k for one. I might buy a used cargo van (like a Ford Connect or an older Sprinter van) and customize it myself (maybe do a half-build with some amenities of the expensive camper, but some of the more simple ideas from the cheaper one and maybe only spend $50k max in total.

Big cheap cargo van, some MDF or plywood and you're in business.

You're making fun of Vaneo, but I actually had one converted into sort of a camper van. It had more features than you could think. I've build a platform into it, that gave me a 'couch' unfolding to slim 80cm wide bed, some mixed in/out accessible cupboard with counter, loads of storage for clothes, food and other gear, dedicated spaces for grill, two burner stove, camping chairs coolbox, 40 liter water tank with an outside pointing tap... Obviously didn't really had shower or toilet, apart from the black-bag one like here (surprisingly functional). I've spent 3 weeks in Greece (twice) and another 3 in Scotland in it, not to mention lot of smaller weekend trips. It was perfect for a small, stealth camper. It was just old and stopped working as a car and sadly had to go

Can’t believe there’s only 20 vaneo’s left, used to kinda like these when I was a kid, big car that’s got loads of seats in and it’s a Mercedes’? Don’t know why I liked these when I was younger, used to see one of these in maroon red rock up to school when I was younger

The left side is without seats long enough for a camping bed, take the backseat right out fot a cammpingtoilet, leave the other both seats on the right side, one to spend the time while eating or watching something, the other one for driving and and holding the table at the backside. you need quite a bit more slack in that hamac and lay diagonally in it to have your spine straight. And a blanket around the hamac would be ideal

Question, does the 100k camper require a differnt type of drivers license? Not sure about the UK laws but in Bulgaria, the regular DL is a category B and you can only drive a vehicle that has a max weight of 3.5 tons and a few other limitations.
