I actually plan out 2 outfits for each day of the cruise. One for daytime and one for evening. And of course swimwear. Then I write each outfit out on a list including shoes and jewelry. I do this because I have actually had two bottoms that both go with one top but then the other bottom doesn't match anything else. So to avoid this, I make my list. The list also makes it super easy when it's time to pack.

I pack everything needed for an outfit (except jewelry) in a space saver bag. When I get to my cabin, I unpack everything. After I wear the clothes, I put them into my suitcase under the bed. When it comes time to pack, anything not worn goes back in the space saver bag and in the suitcase. Takes me about 5-10 minutes to pack at the end of the cruise.

I tape the tops of my shampoo and conditioner, I put saran wrap on bottles then screw the top on. Then I put them in storage bags.

We’re planning for a first cruise, but I have long ago started laying out my outfits for any trip, laying the jewelry on top, and taking a picture of my bed with everything laid out in order. That way I don’t end up with two things that don’t match on the last day. Even though I try to have things that will go with multiple combinations, I hate ending up on the last day with the wrong outfit for the weather or something that doesn’t match.

I used to overpack, now I pack lightly. I pack exactly what I need…only two pairs of shoes, a walking pair and a dress pair…I make a list now, also I use packing cubes…that way I am instantly organized in our state room…

I loved using packing cubes and just moving them from suitcase to side table drawer. Very handy!

I’m 100% an overpacker. I started packing for my January cruise last year 😂 I have a bag dedicated to stuff I’ve been saving out of excitement. It’s my first cruise I’ve done without family. I’m 25 and my last cruise was over 10 years ago so I’m pretty excited! I guess that explains it. But even in the past, I’ve always been the kind of person that says “just in case” as I throw my 10th pair of underwear in my bag for a weekend cruise 🙈

Love your tip & packing videos, Ilana, and great tips from others below. After 29 cruises, all I can add is, if you plan on swimming in the pool as soon as you board, wear your swimsuit under a cover-up. You’ll likely not have access to your cabin yet, and the public bathrooms can be tiny for changing.

I do love your cruise guide. One thing I try to do is to have a goodie bag each day for the steward. Items that I think they might enjoy such as gum, mints, post-it pads and most of all some small bills. Not too many, but something they don't have to share with others. They are very appreciative and go out of their way to accommodate you and are super friendly. A smile goes a long way!

I'm a minimalist packer. However, it wasn't always like that. I used to be an overpacker. But for the last few years I've been a minimalist packer and I love it!

I thought I was the only one to plan out their outfits for a cruise. 🤣🙌🏾🙌🏾 Along with each day, I plan out the evenings for like for the White Party and formal nights. I take it a step further (my husband used to chuckle at me but he gets it now) I lay each outfit out with shoes and take a picture of it. I create a grid in Microsoft Publisher. I insert the pictures in each box and write the date, the island (or sea day), and a note if there is something that evening. I can not tell you how efficient and effortless it is to wake up everyday on vacation with one less thing to even think about.

here's tip that my husband does (which helps to leave room in the suitcase for souvenirs at the end). He saves up and packs all of his older/holey underwear and socks and used them on the cruise and then tosses them out!

The best thing I came up with ages ago that I love sharing with people. All your 'oozy' things like lotions or any ointments...roll them up in a disposable diaper before putting them in your suitcase. That way, if anything breaks open or oozes, it's all contained.

We cruised the Mexican Riviera for our first time on the Majestic Princess this month and I think we under packed! We are usually very minimalist when it comes to packing and we did NOT expect the wind and cold at sea! I definitely used my sweaters. So glad it was helpful! I think you’ll be fine with a carry on for a 4 day cruise, just plan your outfits so you don’t overpack too much :)

I’m a first time cruiser but my daughter just got back from a Caribbean cruise. She said she’s so glad that she packed four bathing suits because her cabin didn’t have a balcony to lay out suits to dry and hanging them in the cabin took forever to dry a suit. She swam every day and by the third day, the first days swimsuit was still a little damp!

Thank you for your video. Just did my first cruise and my mistake was not having a bag for clothing for the night before at the hotel and embarkation day and I forgot my phone charger lessons learned.

Over packer here! But trip last month to Iceland ...luggage never made it. Learned I can get what I need at destination...and I can get by with a carry on. 😊

I went on the QE2 and realized that I had not packed any underwear. Luckily there was a Harrod’s shop on board and I was able to buy a silk pair of underwear for an outrageous price. I had to wash out underwear every day. I never wore those panties again after I left ship because they were so uncomfortable but I was glad to have them on the ship. Lesson learned and underwear goes in the suitcase first.

I've been on several cruises and only brought my suit with me twice. Once for my honeymoon to Alaska and the other for a destination wedding to Hawaii. IMO packing a suit is in the category of overpacking. Slacks and a nice shirt and tie are usually enough.

I am an over packer for sure! We have an incontinent person in our group and various health issues as well plus I am plus sized and they usually don’t carry my size .so we pack 3-4 outfits daily as well as a whole pharmacy and a w/c You don’t want to have to rent them

I used to over pack. Now I manage a 7 to 10 day in a carryon and my personal item. It has saved me many times in making my cruise on time because of delayed flights. No waiting at the baggage claim.

Hi,greetings from Aruba. I am really enjoying your video's. My worse packing mistake was packing shoes for every outfit, , ended with 10 pairs of shoes for 10 outfits, now I pack only 3or 4 pairs like flipflops,1 pair os sneakers and 3 pairs of dress shoes, one in black, onr in white and one I have in a tan or camel color that goes with almost all the formal or formal wear I take with me. Thank you for making my cruise enjoyable.

6:50 stuff you buy on holiday can be posted home. Alternatively, you can post dirty laundry home to create more space in your luggage.

I have a tendency to pack everything. I worry about not having enough clothes and I know it’s my anxiety talking so I’m working diligently on not over packing. I managed it on my little 5 night hotel stay. And I’m glad I bought a spare pair of jeans because I’d washed one and there was something not right and it made my eczema flair up. I had expected rain and to maybe get wet but the weather was gloriously sunny in mid winter.

We’ve been on a lot of cruises so you’d think we would have everything down Pat, but no. So we’re driving to the Lt ship and all the sudden I realized I forgot all my pants, and I mean all of them. They were hanging next to our luggage. Thank goodness we were just going thru Houston, so we were able to swing by a clothing store, but didn’t have time to try on everything, so I purchased 3 of every pant as we all know they aren’t all cut the same and fit differently. That’s our worst packing mistake - so far.

Almost 10 cruises down, and still hoping to catch pajama clad people on debarkation! Is that terrible of me? LOL! What I do the night before the cruise ends, is putting on a clean outfit for nighttime bar or show trip. That is what I will wear off the ship. That way luggage is out in the hallway before we head to that last bit of fun. I also tend to shower that night after dinner, so that all I will leave out is "freshening up items" for the morning and take a "bird bath" in the sink and not need all of my toiletries debarkation morning. Lastly, I have yet to use my bathing suit before rooms open up, I am so busy checking out the ship and having lunch that by the time I'm ready for the pool our rooms are available! I pack it in my carry on and never have used it!

I put everything out on the bed in the spare bedroom about a week before the cruise. I can see what I have. Then I can take away or add as I see what I may need. Really helps me. I am an over packer though.

I am 100% an over packer. I pack for every “what if” or “just in case” scenario. I am trying to be better but I would rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. One thing I do pack light with is my embarkation bag, since my room might not be ready right away I hate carrying a heavy tote bag around on the ship until our room is ready so, I try to fit everything I need for that day in a small backpack & wear a swimsuit under my clothes to save space although I normally don’t like going swimming before I get my room. I don’t like to be walking around the ship wet lol

Get a Heys or a Samsonite. Always pre-plan outfits. Lists are your friend. Lastly, happy travels & enjoy 😉

I never have a package bad day. Use a carry on.and a backpack, good to the go. My carry on holds enough for 14 days.

I do a system called dressing your truth. Pretty much everything I wear can mix and match because I only wear tones. The only thing to watch for are pattern conflict.

I forgot my hairbrush and didn't have a comb either when I went to Paris. And I could find an affordable one!

OMG. My wife packed so many shoes we had luggage just with shoes! I had flip flops, water socks, sneaker and one pair of dress shoes. She had like 10 pairs. Drove me nuts and had to pay for an extra bag (airline).

I just generally overpack! Lol! But one of our biggest mistakes was not having enough small bills for tip money for someone to help us with bags on debarkation day. It's super easy to drop your bags off to check in, but when you're debarking and you have a 2yo with you who requires a suitcase, but can't maneuver it or pull it all the way to the parking garage, you're going to need help. Remember to bring a little extra $ for the luggage handlers!

I am an over packer but that's my choice. :) Great video, I will have to get that carry on bag, that's neat. Thank you as always for sharing.

After 11 cruises I have become a minimalist packer. Since the airlines only allow for 22 kg (44 lbs), I don't pack a suit anymore just a couple of long sleeve shirts and dress pants and maybe a tie. The plastic luggage tags were given to us by our TA and they are great.

We have an inside cabin for our cruise in May. Are trying to get by with a carry-on bag and personal bag each. Don't want to overpack for an inside cabin.

I am a big time over packer especially when I'm cruising out of my home Port. my neighbor my home Sue Mart, so I think that might say everything. my husband says I am an over the counter medication on wheels. I have lots of gadgets, and with your help I've added a few new gadgets to my list. thank you thank you thank you.

I start as an overpacked but I take stuff out of my suitcase so I make the weight, before I leave the for airport.

I’m packing for an Alaska cruise. It’s a month ahead of time but I’m a planner! I’m sure I will overpack, but I like to plan daily outfits and put the entire days ensemble in its own packing cube.

We didn't bring enough warm wear. The dining room was always freezing and we ended up having to wear the same light weight sweaters to dinner each night

Not trying on my formal dress before the cruise. I had gained some weight and had to leave dinner and go to my cabin and change because my dress was too tight. Also, didn't bring a back up. Going on a cruise in a couple weeks and I will try on my dresses again and bring a back up.

I want to utilize the 220 volt plug as well. I have seen adapters as well as converters (probably the choice I’d make). Is there a “cruise approved” 220 plug/adapter/converter? Thanks

Oh that’s a good question. I don’t think you need a special one - I wish I had a better answer for you, but I’ve only used a converter in a hotel and not on board

I am an offer packer even though I plan clothes for each day. You just never know anything can happen and I rather be prepared and not need it.

I’m a over packer learning how to bring everything but not to over pack❤

I always start planning my cruise wardrobe 2 weeks in advance. I hang everything on a rolling clothes rack. Every day, I go and take away something and put something else on that rack. At the end...of course...I always end up overpacking. But I am trying not to do that. I wish I was like my husband. The day we leave, 10 minutes and he's done!!!

Too funny! I’m definitely not a minimalist but I tried once & brought only one outfit prechosen per night (no extra options). I really wished I brought a couple more choices :)

The worst packing mistake I made was to hastily grab what it thought was a matching pair of sandals By looking at the black soles. What I ended up with was one sandal and One flip flop. Oops. I only packed 2 pairs of sandals. Luckily we flew in two days in advance and I went to a shoe store and I was able to buy another pair. Now I will look more closely.

I ended up stuffing things in my husband's suitcase last minute 😄 After one of my cruises, I came home and put to the side everything I actually wore/used while on the cruise. All of it would've easily fit in a small carry-on. Unbelievable!!! LOL

Mistake I have made: not bringing an extra pair of regular glasses on one trip and sun glasses on another trip. I spent the one trip using makeshift duck taped glasses in order for me to be able to see. On the other trip my sun glasses broke and I was in a small town at the time. The only pair of sun glasses I could find for my self to wear were too small for me and were bright colored and silly looking. The sun glasses served the purpose but I looked really silly for the remainder of my trip.🤣

I forgot to pack nail clippers on the other hand I packed one of those plugs but I found I didn't use it it was just taking space in my bag I feel like I had just enough clothes I washed in the cabin they have cloths lines so you can hang it in the bathroom

I always bring socks and warm clothes because i usually travel in the winter from NYC so the clothes i go and come with are warmer clothes…BUT!!! I have forgotten extra underwear. I had 3 panties for a 12 day trip 😞
