    Late to the party here, but baking soda is the best multipurpose item you can bring. Antacid, skin exfoliant, hair clarifier, toothpaste substitute, clothes stain pretreatment, sunburn first aid, shoe deodorizer, and probably more I haven't thought of.

    This may sound crazy, but instead of bringing a laundry pop up I always put at least 3 plastic trash bags in my suitcase they lay flat and I take them when we go on a excursion if it rains,I put my bag in it do everything stays dry and you can also pop a head hole to wear as a raincoat then throw it away when done.

    I save the “charity” plastic bags that come through the letterbox here in the UK (most are a scam pretending to be a charity and don’t have registered charity number, asking for your unwanted clothing etc). They are already wrapped flat and when unfolded are about 1/2 to 2/3 the size of a typical large “black plastic sack”. We call them “free rubbish bags” :) Handy for laundry on holiday etc.

    One thing I always bring on a cruise is dryer sheets, Lysol spray and wipes. When I first get in my cabin, I CLEAN IT! No offense to the cabin steward but it is never clean enough for me. Then I put dryer sheets in the cabinets and all the drawers so that when I put my clothes in there, they continuously have a fresh smell.

    I do the same thing! I'm a huge germophobe and I bring Lysol wipes and wipe down EVERYTHING in my hotel room/ cruise cabin! Tables, chairs, light switches, toilet, sink, phone, nightstands, etc. I don't trust anyone to clean to my standards. The dryer sheets is also a great idea!

    Ilana, your videos were priceless to us as first time cruisers. We have traveled the world extensively , but first cruise. There are a few things I have always traveled with through my 40 years flying and laying over and one thing in particular is VERY helpful to guard against catching whatever is going around. Let me explain. The rooms get cleaned very well, but even with clean linens, the dreaded pillows that someone else probably drooled on are still there. Short of dragging my own pillow everywhere, I found these great anti-alergin pillow cases and they work great. I just put the case over the existing pillow and life is good! I also put my power puff girls case over that for comfort AND so I don’t forget when I depart. I have not been sick since I started doing this 15 years ago. Well, I will catch something from kids and sick friends but NEVER from a hotel or ship pillow. They are not expensive and they are simple to pack. I bought mine at Walmart but Amazon probably has them as well. Mine have almost a waterproof inside lining and all I can say is they’re great and last for years. Hope you can use this idea especially now when everyone is still so panicked over Covid. It’s piece of mind for less than $10 Thanks for your amazing videos!

    If you put 1 tbsp of fabric softener in a small spray bottle and mix with water (shake well), it works just as well as Downy Wrinkle Release. Also, you can use unscented and/or the type for sensitive skin (if you prefer).🎉

    Clorox wipes in a flat package, not the can - to wipe down the cabin before unpacking. Wet Ones or other disinfecting hand wipes in a flat package - to clean hands before eating. Poo-pouri - works great to control odors, as multiple people share the small cabin.

    Love all of your tips, follow you and watch on each cruise!! Here are my own tips 1. Scented trash bags (for dirty laundry/ can even separate into loads and ready to wash) 2. Ziplock to go containers (for long excursion days - to pack some food from the ship) and throw away before flying home (if need luggage room) 3. Foldable shopping bag (many European countries charge extra for bags)😊😊😊

    Very good tips! Thank you and thank everyone else sharing tips in the comments.😊👍🏽 I knew about the baby powder and it works GREAT! Way better than rinsing with water. Google says it is because Sand loves Water-it is hydrophilic-and Water loves Sand back, so they get together, hot and heavy, and want to stick around on you. Then along comes smokin’ hot Baby Powder (really the corn starch in the baby powder)-which is even more hydrophilic-and Water ditches Sand fast as lightnin’ and hooks up with home wrecker Baby Powder. It is then much easier to brush now-dry Sand and its broken heart right away. Like a mini soap opera right there on your feet.😄

    I travel with everything you've described in your video. Two things I have found useful to have are a few bathroom Dixie style disposable paper cups. We use them for taking medications and small items . I also pack 2 collapsible 10 x 10 fabric cubes. Many times they will fit on the top shelf of our closet as well as side shelves. or under the bed. They are awesome for a variety of my husband's things and the other one for my own. I pack them folded in the outer front portion of our luggage. Lastly, I tend to keep all of my cruising items such as tags, magnets, and other items stored together in a separate cruising bag. This way I have everything ready to go for our next cruising adventure.

    I have always brought a small pen light or flashlight. You're not stumbling around in the dark, disturbing others at night. If your bathroom has no nightlight, it is helpful there. I also think it would be useful in an emergency, going up and down dark hallways and stairwells.

    I bring some clothes in vacuum storage bags. Then I use one or two of them for the dirty laundry. They are great. You squeeze all the air out and seal. That way all smelly and dirty clothes are contained and put right in the laundry when we get home.

    I would suggest a small bottle of Benadryl. We had been on a cruise where someone suffered from food allergies during dinner. And believe it or not the dining room had no remedy for allergies. They suggested to the person who was suffering to maybe go to the gift shop and see if they would sell you a remedy. The staff themselves had nothing. We couldn’t believe it.

    Love the tips, most of which I’ve used myself. One thing I would like to add regarding tipping, during holidays I like to give small tokens to the cabin attendant and others that have given great service on the cruise. We wouldn’t be able to cruise without the crew. Last December before on a cruise on my home port ship, I bought miniature stockings, candy canes, and Christmas ornaments to use to give out tips. During this year’s Valentine’s Day cruise, I knew that the crew weren’t allowed to leave the ship, so I handed out packs of Valentine’s Day cards, boxes of candy hearts, and small heart shaped boxes of chocolate to my favorite crew members to give to their favorite person and friends. In appreciation, I also gave a “Valentine’s Day Party in a Bag” to the Cruise Director’s staff because they had taken such good care of me on previous cruises. The word back was that they had a good time.

  • @allytrudie864

    @allytrudie864

    Here is something a crew can’t tell you but I will since I have a couple relatives that have worked on cruise ships. Instead of buying anything extra for the crew they really just would prefer you give them the cash value rather than the gift. They don’t care about the stupid stuff (including candy) and little stuffs that they throw out immediately so they don’t have to have them in their small cabin- they don’t want their cabins to get cluttered because it is hard to keep it clean and tidy all the time. Employees are paid to be kind and show customer service and people seem to think they have some sort of special connection with a crew member but they don’t- they are paid to be that way and paid to pretend to care. Those people that think they are all good with the staff tend to be the ones that annoy them most. You talk to them? Well, even if they don’t have time they HAVE to stop and talk to you and it is annoying for them. They have so much to do they would like to just be ignored. People don’t want little gifts- they would rather have a $5 bill than a package of valentines cards (those were thrown away) or candy.

  • @clbert7460

    @clbert7460

    Жыл бұрын

    @@allytrudie864 I hear you….and agree for the most part but that’s how I package the big tips…in those little gifts 😄 After they are given, the recipients can toss or share as they desire, my feelings won’t be hurt. I also understand that the crew members are paid to be nice to the passengers and they do a great job despite the attitudes they come across. The few crew members that I am close to, we frequently communicate on WhatsApp, meet for lunch when they are in port and can disembark, and I will hopefully visit them in their home country during a break from their contracts (if my travel schedule allows 🤣.) But you are definitely on target for the vast majority of crew members and other cruise staff. I’m just lucky to count those few as friends. (My friends don’t like when I tip them now but honestly, I make them take them. As a former practicing veterinarian, I was also paid for my services and to be “nice” to my clients. And my clients often gave me gifts-I did draw the line at more pets. I took them in the spirit in which they were given. And some of my clients became good friends and they still paid the fees when I was practicing.

    Wow!! Great video!! I learn so much from these. Currently in Hawaii and I actually brought some of these items. Of course my family thinks I won’t use them but quickly change their minds when they actually do. Thank you!!

    We always take baby powder to the beach , cruising or not. It also works good after kids play in sand bar. Using the sock keeps it contained and works best.

    As I was watching the video, I was waiting for laundry hamper information; sure enough, a good call. We bought a collapsible hamper, lightweight and saved a mess in our suitcases and closet in stateroom. I was opposed at first, then realized what a brilliant idea for sure. Love your videos and info you provide. Keep up the good work. Happy sailing.

    probably a weird thing, but I watch these videos for tips on my work trips. I have yet to find a channel that has tips for business travelers. I stay in hotels and usually travel via flying.. AND I take only carryon luggage. So a lot of your tips help me with this way of traveling for business. I have been on a couple of cruises, and as a solo traveler, they were pretty boring. But they are cheaper than picking a destination, paying for a hotel, rental car, and all the food, etc... The weirdest thing I found on the cruise that I missed was POTATO CHIPS!!! I love them and could not find any, ANYWHERE!! So my next cruise I am taking a box of chips, some of the wall hooks and that non surge protected power bar. The last cruise I took a night light.

    Baby powder is great for reducing chafing, for example in shoes. It can be found in a small size in the baby aisle of some supermarkets and pharmacies, I never travel without it.

    I have my 3rd cruise coming up in Jan 2023. My last trip to IKEA I picked up some of their magnetic clips, mostly for my fridge door, but I will be trying those out on my cruise. I'll let you know how they turn out. Already putting together my packing list and taking notes from your channel for ideas. Like the clips, some of my choices are same concept as your suggestions, but different styles.

    Lots of great suggestions. I always take several bags (zip-lock or plastic shopping bags) because they 1) weigh nothing, 2) take almost no space, and 3) there are hundreds of uses. Love your videos! (Leaving tomorrow for 12 days from Panama through Central America, arriving in San Diego on NCL.)

    Baby powder! YES! I recently moved to the eastern shore of Alabama and I keep a small container of baby powder in the car all the time, as well as all beach bags. A good small container to use is a small Tupperware (or any non-breakable) salt shaker. It is compact and has an attached lid so there are no spills. Thank you so much for your videos and the time you take to research and present all these things for us❤

    Hi Ilana! I always travel with a Yeti for coffee, water, etc. Someone told me once to buy a travel baby bottle drying rack. Comes with a bottle brush so you can wash your mugs or water bottles and put them on the pegs in the rack to dry. Then it folds up into a nice little case. I'm thinking might be handy for keeping water bottles etc clean on a cruise. Takes up very little space

    I have used baby powder to remove sand from my feet and hands after being at the beach all day. I like your idea of using a sock and storage bag to save space. When using it directly, it removes the sand almost instantly and you smell fresh although you may not be.

    Am already subscribed and usually hit the like button on my way in. Ziplock bags are important. We have brought them for years. Don't much like to go on beaches. Always bring an insulated coffee cup and water bottle. We also have a packing list that we download before every cruise. Over the counter medicines. They at least help you feel better. Always bring slippers. Snacks we bring because you don't know how long it will be until you actually board. Also, good to bring when out and about off the ship.

    Hi Ilana, I take a lot of things on a cruise including some of the items you share in your video. I suggested some items by email a couple of weeks ago. The first item I suggested is an OMGear Dry Bag and the second is a JOTO waterproof pouch. I also take a non surge protected power strip on cruises that is different than the one you share in your video.
