    Thank You for this video. It should show a lot of people you can use a 1025r for a lot of things but after seeing this they might go with a 2 or 3 series just not because of the hydro flow but the weight of some of the things you can put on the tractor. Keep up the great work and info, always fun to watch.

    This video is exactly the information I was looking for. One thing you should probably mention is there is a potentially big downside to going with a diverter to control a grapple (and possibly other attachments too) instead of a true 3rd function. My brother in-law's grapple always seems to loosen every time the grapple is moved in any way, including when the curl function is used. Unfortunately he has a diverter kit and diverts the curl function to operate the grapple. The issue with the curl is you need to use it to manipulate the load into a trailer/truck and with the grapple loosening, you end up dropping the load. He says this is VERY frustrating. Tractor Time With Tim also mentions you often need to apply constant grapple closing pressure when manipulating the load, including curl and that is true with my brother in-law's grapple. He wishes he had known this before buying the diverter kit. Compared to a true 3rd function kit where you can always apply closing pressure while doing any other movement, he only saved something like $50. He says if he was to do it again he would definitely pay the extra ~$50 and get a 3rd function instead. I'm starting to plan adding a grapple to my new to me 2018 1025R so I'll be adding a 3rd function (most likely along with a 4th function at the same time for future accessories).

    That could be a couple of different issues. The cylinder can be bypassing inside allowing it to open or the valve can have leakage allowing the oil to backfeed as a couple quick examples. If the cylinder tests fine you can install a cheap pilot operated check valve and that will solve your issues. If you are unsure about them or how they work look at this 3 min video.( I have no affiliation or connection in any way) just looking to help. I typed pilot operated check valve in KZread to find it. m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKB6sdixprHdkbg.html

    Most smaller tractors with a loader sold in Australia have the third function as standard equipment. We have dug hundreds of holes for our orchard with a hydraulically powered auger. However we hire a mini loader that came with the driver & auger. Digging holes out the front is the way to go.

    When I had my garage built next to my house. I knew which auger I was going to buy. Now all my attachments are in my large garage. Aka metal frame barn. I measured the diameter of the auger, and then found a pvc pipe to fit around the auger. So when they poured my garage floor I already drilled out a hole and then stuck the thick PVC pipe into the hole. Now my auger is stored so it does not stick up so high. It's in that PVC pipe in the ground in my garage. Every attachment has its own spot marked off with yellow paint. Plus after I'm done using a attachment I pressure wash all the dirt off and wipe off the extra water before it's put into place. My dad told me this when I was a young boy. If you take care of your equipment, your equipment will last so much longer. But none of my attachments never failed me. Like when I need firewood for my fireplaces or my smoker, I grab my cansaw and the fuel, with the wrench. Then place it in the back of my Argo, into the woods and cut down a few oak trees. Then I trim off the branches and cut the trees into sections. Then I take my saw back to the house and connect my Argo trailer and fill it up with the logs. Then drive back and get my spitter and split all my logs. After that I stack some in my basement, or in the garage or on my back patio. Yes it takes a full day, but I enjoy working outside. I'm thinking about buying a small conveyor belt so I can use that to put my logs on my back patio, since it sits up real high, no more lifting those prices up so high. My back door to my basement is wide enough for me to drive my argo into the basement to stack my wood. Everything now is off the floor in my basement, washer, drier, both chest freezers and my wood racks. The wood gets seasoned so much quicker in the basement so I can use my smoker more often. Plus it keeps my kitchen clean, except for a few plates and silverware

    @@GoodWorksTractors You'll need to watch it if you spend that much time behind a computer screen. If you are using a standard rectangular QUERTY keyboard, it will eventually cause an issue with your wrists nerves or carpal tunnel syndrome. Easy resolution is to replace that keyboard with an ergonomic keyboard which allows you to have the correct angle for your arms-wrists-hands to avoid nerve damage. One model is the Microsoft keyboard 4000 or a Logitech model like it. (I have the 4000). I studied ergonomics since I used to do time & motion studies as well as efficiency studies in warehouses, supply operations, and production operations. I'm now retired and very happy not to ever need to go back into a plant.

    Be aware that hydraulically driven post hole augers require a tractor with a significant amount of hydraulic flow capacity. Realistically, 10 GPM min, and the more flow the better. TTWT tested a SSQA model on his 5075E rated at 17.5 GPM and it was barely up to the job. That said, hydraulically driven augers have the huge advantage of being reversible so the can unscrew themselves out of a hole if needed. Augers on the FEL do have the additional advantage of using downforce from the FEL to dig in hard ground. Finally, you can get 3PH mounted augers with reversible hydraulic motors (some with a downforce option).

    I use a Danhauser one made for lower flow machines for use with my Kubota MX (14.4 gpm. 9.5 for pump flow). Work well enough…better than screwing around with a PTO driven one. Doesn’t spin quit fast enough to fling heavy clay when you raise it but a few shakes of the FEL clears it off good enough. If it had a couple more GPM, it would clean with just the spin.

    Question: It seems the hydraulic pump in many compact tractors has a rather limited flow rate. How will a 3rd or 4th function affect the use of the 1st and 2nd functions? That is, would I have less lift capacity if I'm using the new 3rd function at the same time I'm trying to, say, lift and curl?

  • @GoodWorksTractors

    @GoodWorksTractors

    3 жыл бұрын

    Good question. Yes, you'll see longer cycle times when using two functions at one time on these smaller subcompacts and compact tractors. Some tractor manufacturers and series will be affected more than others. I haven't found a real rhyme or reason to it.

  • @jasontaite9349

    @jasontaite9349

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@joshk.4470 that depends. You need to find one that will couple. If that is an issue you can have a machinist make and balance one. Then you have to consider what the relief capacity of the existing hydraulic system is compared to the new pump. Then you have to be aware of hyd pump demand and the horsepower of your tractor. A pump too large can stall the engine before the speed droop allows the torque curve to handle the load. Personally I would recommend someone with training and knowledge to assist and help. Especially as it can be extremely expensive with failed hyd components

    Be Aware! I purchased a true 3rd function valve kit from John Deere for my 1025R. My 1025R is equipped with a drive-over mower. The John Deere valve could not be mounted because the mounting bracket for the mower interfered with the installation. I ended up returning the kit and purchasing a diverter valve kit from Artillian.

  • @motor2of7
    @motor2of73 жыл бұрын

    Extra hydraulics on the front of the tractor, often controlled with a button on the bucket stick, are commonly called a 3rd function. But a third function and a diverter valve are different. A diverter valve disables one function in favor of another. A true 3rd function add another circuit. Extra hydraulics on the rear, often controlled with a slide lever next to the seat are called “rear remotes”.

  • @GoodWorksTractors

    @GoodWorksTractors

    3 жыл бұрын

    Correct. However, John Deere's standard 3rd function terminates on the back side of the tractor as shown on my John Deere 4066r. If you want the "grapple kit", then this includes soft lines, another set of couplers, and then hard lines which then terminate near the front end of the loader.

    A piece of advice I heard early on in researching tractors that made a lot of sense was to order every available factory hydraulic option. Surprised nobody makes (at least haven't seen) forks with side shift (would req. 3rd function) like on my forklift (I wouldn't buy one w/o). That would be handier for most than the forks you showed.

    Do you have the summit kit installed on a 3032e tractor? I have an Artillian kit on both my 2025r and 3032e, and the performance on the E series tractors is dismal at best. I have been blaming the regenerative hydraulic design, sometimes you can get the tool to travel in one direction, but not the other. It’s frustrating. Any experience on this model with diverts?

    John Deere lawn and garden tractors the past 7 years have been nothing more than overrated overpriced garbage 2019 Craftsman made a huge comeback with their T240 T260 and T310 turn tight series Tractors the T240 and T260 are a cross between a Lawn/Garden tractor according to a craftsman Rep the T310 is a full garden tractor all three tractors are built incredibly well and they are heavy all three come with the Kohler 7000 series Engines these Engines are designed after the Kohler Command Pro commercial Engines and their transmissions hydrostatic have steel gears and serviceable with out any doubt the Craftsman Turn tight series are the very best in 2021
