I wouldn't say 'the best', but she certainly is one of the best. Personally, I think the only actress that Meryl should not compete with is Jessica Lange. And that being said, I think you should focus a little bit more on Jessica :) After all, one of the roles, if not the only role Meryl didn't get (and wanted it very, very much) is the role in 'Sweet dreams', the role of Patsy Cline, which she lost to Jessica Lange.

I'd also add that she has kids, not many people know that about her, as she is so passionate about her work and many would think that she couldn't concentrate on a family yet she did

Nobody (else) can portray so many different characters adding always something that makes her become her character and not just performing it: from the accents to the manners and working on their psychology, Meryl is an alchemist of acting and transforms every film she acts in into a masterwork.

Meryl Streep is a gifted and versatile actress , having earned numerous nominations and recognitions that no actor in her generation has ever achieved.

She was completely gracious and lovely giving Peter O'Toole his special Oscar; no one could have don't it better, and he so deserved her!

No question she is the best actress of all time. So versatile and professional. I am surprised at her maturity. No surprise she and Di Niro respect each other so much. One of my favs was her portrayal of Thatcher.
