One more: Seeming rude for looking at your wrist to admire your watch but unintentionally causing people to assume you are constantly checking the time

Can relate to that. I'm thinking of one in my collection that I consider the most beautiful of the watches, but I don't want to wear it for fear of scratching the case finish of creasing the nice leather strap. So it sits in it's box on the shelf, occasionally pulled out to gaze at and wind it to keep the movement lubed). And when I consider selling it to someone that would actually wear it, I can't imagine life without it😍
- Store the watch boxes in empty suitcases and put them in the basement, have been handy in these non-traveling times. - Never sell off a watch you know you can't repurchase. - The grail goal posts will always move down the field, the field never ends. - Checking out strangers' wrists can be problematic, especially if you're a guy. - I'm always honest with the prices of my watches when I'm explaining to non-watch people and ask them in return how much they have lost on their newly purchased Audis, BMWs and MBs.

*”Never sell off a watch you know you can’t repurchase.” Like most collectors, from time to time, I need sell off a piece to fund another piece. My rule is that I won’t sell an LE, rare or discontinued piece to fund a piece that’s widely available.

Long time subscriber, first time commenter so here it goes: The thing that bugs me the most is deciding what watch to wear. My collection is now at 16 pieces and i get from time to time a feeling of "guilt" that i don't get to wear enough some of the pieces even though i love them very much. I wish i had more than two hands or it would be socially acceptable to wear a watch on each wrist. Cheers from Eastern Europe!

I wear a watch in each wrist. Which you think wouldn't be a big deal, but it irks people to no end. There's people out there with purple hair, pierced eyebrows and tattoos on their necks, but I'm the one that people freak out about! LOL.

I used to have a lot of watches- a couple of Black Bays, a Tudor GMT, a Bond era seamaster, a sword hands seamaster, a few cheap Seikos and of course my Father’s Datejust. But I only have two wrists so I got rid of everything except the datejust, but as it was inherited I wanted something of my own. So I got a Seadweller 4000 (the perfect rolex diver IMHO being it has the 40mm case, no date bubble BUT it does have the modern clasp and bracelet). A perfect 2 watch collection, for me at least! And yes I do sometimes wear both watches simultaneously, one on each wrist. Crazy I know but it means I know where they are at all times!

She is wearing two watches herself ;)
Wow. Not sure whether I should be embarrassed, shocked, or happy that she uncovered every point of my obsession and maybe some that I haven't admitted yet. Creepy and incredible all at the same time. I didn't realize so many of these problems were widespread!
Fun video! You have to add that first scratch or ding we get on our watch. How we will lose sleep over it, check the watch dozens of times (did I really just do that???), and wonder if I could just turn back the hands of time I wouldn’t walk right into that door jam with my watch hand!
"Oh my sweet summer child!" Love it
Jenni, this is soo spot on 🎯 I’m now feeling like a transparent watch collector 😉 I could give so many examples for every topic you mentioned. But three shot ones: 1. The long blond arm hair destroying an almost perfect wristy 2. Standing directly in front of the TV with the RC to identify the watch of an actor 3. Selling a Rolex GMT Master II black bezel 6 month before it gets discontinued 😂 Love your content 😍 Go ahead 🙌🏻
Good morning Jenni... #4 - forget that watch? I have driven back to my place 1/2 hour to retrieve my watch... you have such lovely screen presence.
Jenni, Love this vid. No one else has covered this like you. Actually, no one else has covered this at all. I have experienced 14 of the 15 at some point or another. I never sold a watch for fear of regretting it so I think that qualifies me for 15 out of 15. I think I have taken wrist time guilt to the next level. My wrist time guilt seems to be financially driven. I tend not to wear my more expensive watches and wear more Seikos and homages I like and don't really care about as I can replace them for cheap. Lately I have been wearing my real Omega Speedy reduced and I feel a little better now, but then I start to feel even worse that I have a Roly at home which I have neglected. To add to my seemingly unending horological psychological pain, I have more expensive watches in my bank safe deposit box, which I haven't seen in years and nobody alive has ever seen. Being a watch person has given me so much pleasure over the years that I think these things are a fair price to pay. What do you think? If you haven't done a video on what is so great about watches maybe that would be cool.
@frankpentangeli7945
2 жыл бұрын
That's funny. And kinda sad. I feel for those watches in your safe deposit box the way I would feel for neglected puppies. I wear all my watches on rotation, expensive or cheap. And when I start worrying about damaging them, I fight through it and remind myself they're just watches after all. I might feel differently if I owned museum pieces ... or perhaps if I collected as a form of investment ... I don't know. But for the time being I don't possess any genuinely rare pieces and I'm not an investor, so it's academic.

Aha you are that type of guy, buying expensive watches just to store them in a safe place. I never will understand this behaviour... I got some Rolex and I use them all as my daily beater, I go to the beach and sports with them all idgaf, watches should be enjoyed
Fun list there Jenni! I absolutely have to run back to the house to retrieve my watch when forgetting it. And you're comment on staring had me laughing so hard. So true! My son has tapped me on the shoulder more than once for trying figure out what one is wearing from across the room. One to add to the list would be wiping tour watch down constantly because of a special of dust on it. I do that daily at an almost OCD level. Micro fiber cloths in both vehicles and night stand. Love your channel and it's content. Best of luck in the coming new year!
Boxes, yes. It's true with watches, but also fountain pens. Anywhere an item's value is enhanced by retaining the box. If automobiles came in boxes, we'd all be done.
Your description of forgetting your watch was spot on. I don’t often forget to wear one, but when I do, I berate and kick myself for forgetting. And it’s always when I don’t have time to return to retrieve it.
Im so relieved to hear that I’m not the only one. Especially the „watch fatigue“ one. In fact I can relate to every single of these 15 points… :D
Hi Jenni, really super video, spot on bar the exclusion of 1 problem many of us face…..The “selling in” of the next purchase to your wife/husband/partner. Definitely deciding what to wear. Also, looking at my collection and wondering if I wore one recently or if it's been a long time since I've worn a particular watch. I was skeptical about this video but you nailed it Jenni! It was a laugh too. This strange addiction to watches we have... completely irrational but so much fun.
Nice concept for the video... So true all of them
"Seller's Remorse" hit home incredibly hard. Ive been thinking a lot lately about how much of a mistake it was to let my 14060m 4-Liner go. After 3 and a half years, the regret only gets worse with time.
Leave the house without a watch?😱 Had a watch on continuously since the 80s😜 (apart from hospital🤕 and prison🙄) even to sleep in.😴 Good video, thank you 👍👍
Excellent video! I have a small collection if inexpensive watches but I have experienced many of the things you have mentioned.
LOL!! 😂 Love this list! Can relate to most of ‘em, like most of your viewers I’m sure.
Great video. I would like to add the biggest problem of all. Manage the “wrist time” when you have more than a few watches. Terrible to realize that we like all of our watches but we only use a couple of times a month to keep some kind of rotation (all watches deserve our wrist time).
And what about winding all your collection? Or even worse, the fact that we tend to look for more and more complications and the more complications you have the more setting up you have to do after the movements have stopped.
Great sense of humor! My fave: pathetic naked arm when forgetting the watch. The horror!
I recently got the call from my AD and purchased the Bluesy Sub. I have a 5 3/4 inch wrist and I don’t care if the watch is too big, I love it.
There's definitely a couple times I sold watches I now regret. The pain is real.🤣

#1. Fidgeting with your watch like it's a toy or stress reliever and sometimes falling asleep holding your watch.
So many boxes! Yes on the NH35 soldiering on, my first automatic was a Invicta "Submariner" I bought 10 years ago with a NH35, never serviced and still more accurate than a few of my now higher end automatics.
Good video. Thanks
Brilliant job 👏. Glad to know it's not just me.
Loved this one. So relatable.
Very cute episode. You're also becoming proficient at the art of subtle humor. The box thing though... OMG it's an issue with more than just watches. I hate throwing them out. Hence I have waaay too many. Getting motivated to do so in order to avoid being labeled a hoarder. ☮️Jenni
Solution for the armhair problem: start collecting knives and there will be no armhair on your left arm, at least when you are right handed. If you are a leftie, the problem will be solved on your right arm. It’s because you have to test that your knives are hair popping sharp whenever you pick one 😉😎 And as a watch and knife collector I can tell you: same problems on each side of the fence 🤷♂️

OMG! #8 is me!!! I pause the movie, take a screen shot and try in vain to get a decent shot of the watch the actor is wearing. I thought I was alone.
Yes! Great list! Almost all of these apply to me, haha. Only this morning, I was sitting in church and supposed to be listening to the speaker, but couldn't take my eye off the older gentleman across the isle's wrist. Jennie, the Watch Psychologist. You are correct on all 15! For myself though I have settled for a lees pricier choice on a brand that wasn’t the Rolex, I am very happy I made the less costlier choice even after six months.

UGH! Just purchased another watch right before watching this video 😥 buyers remorse sets in 😄 - purchased my first Hanhart - the Hanhart Pioneer One with a Grey dial - love German Watches 😍 and your channel 👍
I’m always looking for the right strap. Especially 2 piece NATO style. And fabric or canvas.
'Oh, you sweet summer child' 😂
lol, I am with you on the arm hair. I had a sort of abstract awareness about being fairly hairy but I didn't actually fully realize what that meant until I started taking wrist shots of my watches and seeing them next to others.. I was suddenly aware of being a hairy beast. I see a beautiful watch on a slim 6" wrist with wisps of fine hair and then my big 7.5" werewolf arm beside it haha.. It's a very odd feeling!
Hi Jenni - I felt like I was the only one that had all of these watch problems.
Haha, the arm hair part cracked me up 👍
Absolutely! Especially #15: It Never Ends! 😜
I have the "small wrist" problem, especially for a male and considering the size for a lot of popular watches termed as "For Men". 39mm is about the maximum size that looks good on my wrist without being overwhelming. I can occasionally get by with a 40mm depending on the design (though I have one 40.5mm that I never wear due to it looking overwhelmingly large on the wrist). I've worn 34mm and 36mm which look fine, so I am able to wear a lot of watches, but it always seems to be watches I REALLY desire that always are 40mm or larger, so I have to pass. I also relate to the boxes issue. I don't want to dispose of them as they're part of the value of the watch should I decide at some point to sell it (or hopefully not in the near future, the executor of my estate desires to sell them!).

6.0” wrist here. I thought I was locked into 35-38mm watches forever until I looked at my wrist in a mirror from a distance and measured my wrist span with calipers. My wrist measures about 53mm across, so anything with a lug-to-lug length under that is worth taking a look at for me. I’m wearing a Rolex Deepsea and can confirm that the lugs fit within the confines of my wrist when I look in the mirror. Try measuring your wrist span with some calipers!
100% ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😁🥂 I suffer from The “ staring” bit , and “this is my last watch “ syndrome. I’m on my 5 th last watch 🤷🏻♂️⭐️😊
