147: Ido Portal - It’s Never Too Late To Start Moving

Ido Portal has always been obsessed with the physical.
His obsession isn't with a specific discipline such as martial arts or strength... his passion is movement.
After searching around the world for movement teachers Ido came up dry and decided to become the person he was looking for.
Over the years he's traveled the world both teaching and studying from a variety of teachers: from osteopaths, manual therapists and MD's to professional dancers, yogis, athletes, circus performers, and fighters.
Ido's workshops became very popular and he conducts a yearly event, The Movement Camp.
A community and culture developed around his ideas but more importantly around movement - movement culture.

Thanks for this podcast! Pure gold! I really liked this quote 12:33 : "Nowadays we became overly technical, people are trying to study techniques of movement. But the real techniques that they need to learn, the techniques that originated the techniques that they want to learn, are the techniques of the body."

Interesting to see this on a health podcast! It always depends on the way the person trains, and their goals. But movement can be very healthy, actually, if what you're going for is health, I would say it's the best way to go about it. Just beware of what aspects of movement you are exploring, and if they're aligned with improving your health. You'll find great tools for that under a movement approach.

everything in moderation. all he was trying to express was that the amount he trains might have negative consequences, but that is the price paid to be as progressive as he is. i don't know anyone else that trains 8 hours a day.

Brilliant thank you! I've got to say though that the hosts are quite robotic in their interviewing. Would like to see some more emotion or deeper discussions rather than question-answer-question-answer. Nevertheless there was some pure gold dug up from the conversation so thanks again

40:40 Banker WANKERS and what not. Ido apparently has a distinct sense of humor.
